Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not lunchtime and it’s 29 degrees.

im going to the gym later. The aircon there is like an invisible ice wind storm …. When they turn it on around May I’d be giving out but I’m going to go down there, sit on a bike and just be bombarded with coldness for 90 minutes and do as little as possible…

Weather station at home just peaked at 29.9°C, without getting any direct sunlight. It's nice and cool here in the office but I'm not looking forward to the trip home later... 😬

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Taking in the news that Dad has contracted Covid whilst he's been in hospital. So far the only symptom is tiredness but it's still terrifying and devastating news, made so much harder by not being able to visit him. The day he went into the ED department I posted on the TA thread about a non-clininical staff member swanning around the department without a mask. It makes my blood boil, now, when I think of it.

@Sardonicat I'll be thinking of you and your dad.

The latest cases I'm hearing of around here seem to he the older generation for some reason.

It must be very frustrating for you not being able to see him.

I bet @smurfjed is laughing at us Europeans and our "heatwave".

I was talking to a friend in UAE today about our heat and she said "sure that's our spring". 🤣

Having a super chilled time down here in Kilkenny with my partner for his postponed birthday break away. 💕😊🥳🎁

Weather has been scorching - but we've been using the hot tub in cool mode on the balcony in our hotel room after sunbathing - pure bliss! 😎🌞🌞🌞

Smurfjed wouldn’t survive without air conditioning, I have 4 units in my house and it’s a no-go item for the truck. But life has to go on even with the heat. Yesterday I went to a car scrap yard and got a new door and bonnet for my truck, (due to corrosion ) Then stopped off at the water front and finally took a walk down the sea front, it was kinda quiet at noon. :):)

Happy to report that Grumpy is holding his own against Covid so far. Wish I could say the same for me. For the first time ever I am genuinely considering closing out my Boards account. Boards, in particular this thread and you fabulous Wherers, has been a life line to me while I've been a carer with much reduced social contact, but the way this site is going lately with the most blatant and vile xenophobia, racism, misogyny and class bashing that is allowed to stand, unchallenged and the amount of it being posted has really turned me off the site. This used to be a fun place, in the main, with the occasional serious debate on issues that could be interesting and informative. Now it's just...horrible. Maybe I just need to take a break from it. I'll miss you lot if I do go, though.

Back home in Galway....had a great time in kilkenny. Had an awakening moment today, myself and the missus have realised that our 3 chick's have no mass on money or where it comes from. There was a lot of discussions on the way home and a few stern words handed out. Chick's will soon realise that money is to be earned and respected and not wasted away.

I know what you mean. The place is really going to the dogs lately, all just negativity, tribalism and hostility. I'm in a similar boat to you there Sardi. It's getting painful. This thread, the Cork city forum (certain threads) and ironically enough the Ukraine thread are the only reasons I still come here. Just do whatever feels right to you, your mental health is more important than anything else!

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Am only on this thread once in a blue moon, and not very much on boards these days. I stick to a handful of threads when I log in.

Agree with @thomil and @Sardonicat it's a shame to see what boards has become and what is let pass as acceptable. Ugh.

@Sardonicat glad to hear grumps is holding up well..

As for the site issues, I totally understand, it's gone from relatively simple to mod things to a feeling of pushing out the tide.. I'm trying to hang in there but it's exhausting..

The recent past few days has seen horrendous posts on Boards.ie using vile crude abusive language about women the majority which have gone unchallenged. I don't think mods are getting reports, so its vey hit and miss. There is also a bullying clique.

Its gone so bad the trolls have even invaded the pet forum, which is usually a place to get good advice on all things pet and have a good discussion and advice from experts.

It is a pity when people you respect want to head off, but its totally understandable.

It's the posters on here that keep others posting imo . Other wise everyone would have left . The sense of community has dwindled since the clusterfcuk that was the move to Vanilla. All just my opinion though..

    It's Thursday, it's not raining, we're here , three positive things 😌

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

Getting the hair done now, treat myself Thursday 😂😂👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭thomil

The move to Vanilla can be blamed for many things, but the change of tone around here is not one of these things as far as I'm concerned. There's just a rising level of aggression throughout society at the moment, people using the slightest pretext to go completely nuts on each other. I honestly don't envy any of the mods or admins here, you could give me all the money in the world and I still wouldn't do it. Grem and the others, I don't know how you do it!

To switch to something more positive, it's Thursday, I got dragged along on a pub crawl/company dinner two days ago even though I was not part of that particular team/org, and it's nice and quiet here at the moment 😀

Oh, and have you guys seen the images released by the James Webb Telescope last week? They are spectacular 😮 😮 😮

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 60,497 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gremlinertia

Been catching up with those telescope photos, incredible, mind blowing really..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,284 ✭✭✭✭Purple Mountain

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't notice the aggression/venom or trolling on this site.

I just click into the same ole threads that I have bookmarked and generally there's very little out of the ordinary posted.

Sorry if some of you are having bad experiences but I honestly can't say (thankfully) it's come to my notice but I echo the praise for the moderators.

Not for all the tea in China would I do it.

ETA.. I notice a bit of argumentative or provoking posts sometimes in threads by repetitive posters but I can't be sure if it's deliberate or if they just believe what they try to sway others to think. I just eye roll when I see those names come up.

    I kinda agree with you.

There's certain topics that I just know one or two posters will be up in arms over....I'm not saying they are wrong...but if they didn't get on their high horse the topic would die a natural death.

It's abit like Tommy Tiernan on the late late show back in the day.

I think the majority of posters are genuinely nice people you may not agree with everything they post but you respect their point of view.

If you don't like a thread or the way a thread is evolving stop reading it and be aware that a percentage of posters are wind up merchants so having a rant just fuels them.
