Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

To be fair though, many patients will go untreated with cancer on waiting lists during this pandemic so its no harm to keep funding going into this area.

Tuned in during the middle of another sermon by Tubs.

Great cause and I donated, but had to switch off.

RTÉ is not good for the head.

The guy made a joke about the topic of the show not the subjects. It’s a running joke about this show

    People need to lighten up

So so much money goes into cancer, I JUST HOPE ITS GOING TO THE RIGHT PLACES..... as we never seem to see results, the big break through never come.
One thing I do know is the CEO of the Irish Cancer Society is on a GIANT wage, along with the rest of the big wigs in the Society. 6 figures wages, maybe they should donate some.

They’re nice guys. Harmless. They take a lot of shlt but never say anything bad about anybody. Imagine they were your brothers or something you’d feel very protective of them. They’re good lads

I made a point of making a donation early this morning. I didn't want my donation linked in anyway to the Late Late.

I do feel sorry for John and Edward all the same, they have been chewed up and spat out by the Louis Walsh/Simon Cowell machine.

Are they still getting work or what? Havent heard from them in a while.

The "faux outrage" schtick never gets new. Irreverence is the theme of this thread, going back forever and a day.

"Light entertainment" lads, don't forget to polish your coffins.

Could you imagine Conan o'Brien or Graham Norton donating huge chunks of their shows to absolute misery?. Surely a standalone once-off event would be better than this farce every week ??

As for those two, Jedward, they should keep marching for their career criminal over in the US, talentless clowns

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭donkeykong5

Maybe Catherine Martin who has been giving out massive Grant's to all her millionaire musician friends could give some cash to this cancer appeal.

Im always in this thread, its by far my favourite and the one where i can laugh with and thank peoples posts i might disagree with on other threads.
However theres no way im watching this,im worn down after a season of misery,Turbridy has won,I have no smart comments to make on cancer sufferers.
I thought there was a bit of pushback a few weeks ago with some news outlets picking up on social media responses to this bizarre direction the Late Late has taken the last few years but no,on it trundles.

I think charities is meant to have stuff up on how much goes to whatever they raise for.

Just aside to a CEO I have no problem with them having a CEO wage for a large organisation. Its just how many there are with large wages

The work these do is actually incredible

These people will bring us across the threshold one day if we are lucky

Only a few can handle that job

Fair point but a pandemic is a pandemic, cancer research and donations have been going on for over 80 years, not sure it has done anything for research. Covid is NOW and needs more attention than anything on the planet. think bigger mate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,415 ✭✭✭generalgerry

Shur why not? They have already paid for Averill Power tonight at least. Where else would she get €125 a year + 10K expenses + pension contribution?

    https://www.cancer.ie/about-us/about-the-irish-cancer-society/transparency/our-employees-and-their-salaries

"Averil Power, the Irish Cancer Society’s current CEO, was paid an annual salary of €125,000 in 2019. She also received a car allowance of €10,000. The Society also contributed 20% of salary to her defined contribution pension scheme."

If the show was about Covid then you'd be giving out about that as well. Today is daffodil day, and is normally a huge fund raiser for cancer charities, hospices etc. This is a chance for people to donate to very worthy charities. Even listen about the night nurse service.

The pitch black cynicism in this thread really is an eye-opener. :(

The CEO is on 125k... This is not a giant salary. This is middle management in a multinational money. You would not find anyone qualified to work as a CEO for less.

    Which is a valid point.

That’s the going rate for that responsibility in a role

Not to be insulting but have you been living under a rock billions have been spent on COVID with loads done and many vaccines on stream. Maybe is it was done for cancer more would have been done. Research for other medical diseases just can't stop. Maybe you have to be thinking bigger. Its clear you don't run something that requires multi tasking and multiple processes at 1 time

The only advice I can give is the tread doesn’t accommodate the permanently offended.

Posters are laughing at the show, not the guests

Its clear you are not a regular, stay safe and calm, we try to have a bit of banter here ut its very hard when there is so much ****ing dread on one show .

Love you and your family and wish you all the best in ths time or whatever is going on in your life.

At times Tubs dollops on the empathy and humility to levels it makes him almost patronising.

"What I'm trying to say in a mealy-mouthed way..."

A rare moment of introspection from Tubs.
