Insanely harsh when you consider the contrast with them not wanting to penalise Hamilton last year when he lied about not seeing the yellow flag and they were only forced to change their decision after Red Bull tweeted the footage of him being shown the yellow for all the world to see.

This one must be the first ever example of a driver not actually been shown a yellow, and also actually slowing down, but still being penalised for not slowing down quite enough for the yellow flag he didn’t see.

Insane decision, but makes pretty much zero difference given that he was already starting down in 18th due to the fact he slowed down for the incident anyway.

The other drivers in that sector including the one in front of Vettel, were instructed by their teams to abandon the lap in accordance with the notes from race direction. It's a slam dunk
