so player welfare may not be as important as people are saying, the fact is that there no international games for over 7 months, only players with Lions prospects will be hoping for a rest

Player welfare is changing a lot as well, its far more quantified these days (rather than just having to rely on X number of games in Y weeks etc)

Player Welfare surely means what’s in the best interest of the player, not when Ireland play or not.

Henshaw is either fatigued/battered or he’s not, I presume the decision would be taken out of his hands as to whether he is suitably fit and injury free or not.

There’s always the fear of the straw that breaks the camel’s back so to speak, if he plays and gets a serious injury like a ligament tear etc due to his body being vulnerable after the 6 nations toll on his body questions would have to be asked.

the same applies for Tadhg Beirne.. but he is starting too.

Yeah its not that simple. There's a huge amount of data drawn from elite games, to the point now where they feel they can predict when a player may be due an injury/fatigued. The GPS tags they wear feed into that data. It's a fairly established science at this stage.

Now obviously, there's always risk of bad luck and whatnot, but we're following the trends within the rugby world in regards to monitoring players.

It's defo not a case of asking Robbie how he feels and see he's still tearing it up in training. Player welfare extends well past the next game. For example, nobody wants to burn out a load of players by next year. Their future is very much considered.

Kick the leather off the ball and go after Larmour and Lowe. I'll take a 3-0 win in the worst rugby match ever played.

I think you got Munster’s total right anyway

A ligament tear is a traumatic injury, pretty sure you're not going to get it from playing too many matches.

Would the below be a fair stab at a Leinster 23?

    1. Byrne, 2. Kelleher, 3. Porter,
    4. Baird, 5. Toner
    6. Ruddock, 8. Conan, 7. Van der Flier,
    9. Gibson-Park, 10. R Byrne,
    11. Lowe, 12. O'Loughlin, 13. Osborne, 14. Kearney,
    15. Larmour.

    16. Cronin, 17. Dooley, 18. Furlong, 19. Fardy, 20. Penny, McGrath, H Byrne, Kelleher.

    Resting: Healy, Sexton, Henshaw, Keenan.
Injured: J Ryan, Connors, Doris, Ringrose, Leavy, Deegan.

    Close calls:
Tracy could get on the bench ahead of Cronin.
Bent could bench if Furlong were rested, and Porter could start.
Murphy could get on the bench ahead of Penny.
Hawkshaw/Turner/O'Reilly could bench if Osborne weren't selected, might be too inexperienced for this match, in which case maybe Kelleher to fullback and Larmour to 13.

I'm assuming the other injured players that would be on the fringes of a 23 are:
    Frawley, J O'Brien, C O'Brien, T O'Brien, A Byrne.

Id say they will start their first choice 9.
    Mcgrath.

Dave will start, Munster will get zero change from him.

Or run in his general direction... will probably score a try or two.

Bookies have Leinster 6 point favourites. I don't see that changing much, tbh.

Sure lookit, Munster are only lucky to be sharing a field with the behemoth that is Leinster rugby, and we'll give it our best on the day.

Leinster are nearly always favorites with the bookies though. How many points were Leinster favorites last week?

They'll need to have the ball first. Then they'll need to get it past DDA and Chris Farrell, eh I mean the Leinster midfield defence.....

One game is a pretty small sample size, tho. Do you not think there might be a reason they're nearly always favourite?

I'm amazed ye bucks don't have more confidence in yer team at this stage! ;)

I’m fully confident that even if Munster do turn up, they will find some way to lose the game :)

    Ferris is backing Munster though.

Only third time munster and Leinster have met in a final in 20 years! For such a rivalry I expected more.

Munsters 1st choice team is just as good as Leinsters 1st choice team. Our problem is in the depth chart and we haven’t had our 1st choice playmaker fit in almost 2 years

    Munster will Win this weekend
We have way more to play for than Leinster have. CJs last ever league game is worth 10 points on its own

Let's hope Munster do it on Saturday, we owe Leinster one and then we have the motivation for CJ

Does having the Rainbow cup take away from this 'final', we could easily see a Munster vs Leinster final in that too

Great to have this game live on TG4 on Saturday

Your problem is your coach plus the fact that your 1st choice team is not as good as Leinster's .

Munster keep losing semi finals, we're doing our bit up here....

This is effectively Leinsters league Cup and Munsters biggest game in a decade.

Leinster won't be naming their strongest available side l, while Munster will.

A win for Munster is almost required for the rivalry. Personally I hope Leinster stomp Munster but have a feeling it will be a "famous" win.

It's also the second time in about 7 or 8 months isn't it? So the previous one was the 2001 14 man win?

No, that was a semi final. Leinster Ulster was the final. The previous league final was 2011 in Thomond, a week after the Northampton Leinster Heineken Cup final.

Last one was a semi final

2011 was last final between the two
