State agencies monitoring Deer numbers?

A post on another forum just got me wondering, is there any state agency that has a responsibility to monitor deer numbers around the country?
I'm starting to see them in places that they never used to be and a woman I know was giving out to a relative that all her grass was being eaten by deer.
The relative didn't believe her, so to prove a point they went out the back, turned on a flashlight in the field and in a field with no cattle 14 pairs of eyes shone back at them!

Send me the post code by pm and I'll be around tomorrow her lawn will be perfect.
Npws are the agency that is meant to monitor....
But there are deer turning up in all sorts of places.

There is no census of deer i'm aware off. It has been called for but never done afaik. Not even sure of the practicalities of such a program.

Have a look on UK social media to see deer wandering into built up areas since the Covid times.
Prior to Covid I've seen deer walking through the villages of Blessington, Roundwood and Laragh at night or early mirnings. Built up areas such as Stepaside, Kilterian, Carrickmines all have deer meandering around them.
Whether or not people are just more aware of this occurrences as they are more house bound or it is the fact that less and less people are out and about. I know a few permissions that I have don't see deer during the bird hunting season as local clubs consistently hunt the ground but before and after I'm guaranteed to see deer.
As a suburban dweller I'll see foxs late at night or very early in the morning, but through out the lock down my wife has seen several foxes in the city centre between 08.30 / 09.00 hrs. Places such as - Amien St, Burgh Quey, O'Connell St.

Shes in a very rural area, lots of bog forestry etc.
It's not her lawn she's bothered about, she's a farmer and it was the grass in the field they were munching!
Also her neighbour looked out his kitchen window one morning and reckoned he had 3 different species of deer eating his garden although its that good of a story I wonder hwo true it could be.
I would have thought the farming lobby would have gotten some kind of annual monitoring to be done by now. Maybe it won't happen until a politician catches lymes disease

If she wants them moved on, or reduced in number, she needs to ask someone to shoot them for her. Npws won,t do that. She doesn't need to shoot them all for them to get the hint. Only a week left in this season. A bit difficult at the moment with the travel restrictions. I'm south county Wicklow if that any use. There's plenty on here who will help, just need to narrow it down to the 5km. If not give shout back here for the 1st September and hopefully loads of guys here will be delighted to help her out.

Would the 5km restriction even apply ? It’s a game animal but in this case an agricultural pest nonetheless.

Just like others here I’m kind of tongue in cheek volunteering my services.

If it's 7km from my house, it doesn't apply. But if it's 50km from my house, someone else is bound to be nearer. And good look to them. Remember the 14 pairs of eyes are only at night.

I think she has someone nearby coming over to see if they can help. Fingers crossed she doesn't like venison, plenty of room in my freezer!

Is deer hunting still prohibited under the restrictions? or are ye ok if ye have 14 pairs of eyes within 5 clicks
