As suggested, Welsh Open probably merits a dedicated thread so thought simply to make one!

Couple of decent matches today. Bingham v Milkins, all welsh clash between MJW and the once highly touted Michael White. Robbie Williams hoping to better his scottish open display in his rematch with Ronnie at 1 o'clock.

And, of course, big big match for Fergal and Aaron today, also at 1. Not looking promising for any live feed for the match, unfortunately.

Yes on bbc wales with spaceman and ken doing commentary. Presume its on red button too but not certain.

Yeah, it's on the red button 1, Selby 3-1 up on Pringles.

    I see that's not live.

Dont like the roll up break but can see why a player might use it. Just hope it doesnt become a thing.

It's on red button this afternoon and evening. Also on Quest this afternoon. Michael White really dropped back, he was around the top 16 5 years ago, and now he's off the tour at 29.

Somewhere online there's a video of a very young Michael White and Judd Trump being interviewed by John Parrott at the crucible. Back then white woul have been touted as the better prospect by some, an absolutely outstanding junior player. Never handled the pressure of the pro game sadly. Would have been great to see him make the top.

Here's another option he could try...

You could be there all year trying to do that! Safe as houses though :pac:

    RIP Doug Mountjoy.

Fergal is grinding it out vs young Aaron. Both are on 31 seconds average shot time

    win for hill

    who's he playing next?

Well done Aaron. First tour win since early november so will be hugely welcome. And looks like he had to tough it out. Feared worst for him when fergal won a marathon 5th frame to level it 2-2. Carter or Daniel Wells up next, not too bad as things go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Ken starting up against Martin O'Donnell. Could do with a win, fair to say season not really got going yet. O'Donnell been playing half decent of late so likely have to play well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

No good, bagelled 0-4. Just not going for ken at the present for whatever reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Another ding shocker, couldn't have had the balls better placed for him but still couldn't take advantage and loses 2-4. This guy Pang Junxu has had one or two eye catching results this season to be fair.

Jimmy should just retire at this stage. Probably practicing more than he ever did nowadays, but hanging around on the tour getting drubbings is only tarnishing his legacy... Sad really - wonder why he still persists at it... He still has his punditry and Seniors' events to keep his eye in, but surely even 10/1 for James to get past the second round of any competition this year would be considered poor value...

Excellent from aaron, thumping long red followed by frame winning 64. Could be 2-0 but at least he's up and running here. Do his confidence a power of good.

Is john Higgins back from Covid ?

Yeah, he's playing Ben Woollaston later today

No joy here for Aaron Hill. Didnt play terribly, just missed too many long pots and carter was clinical in punishing him, didnt make many mistakes today.

Jimmy should just retire at this stage.

Some of the balls he's missing and the distance he's missing them by. Jeez.

I dunno could i ever see jimmy actually retire, he loves playing and eurosport likely looking after his travel expenses anyway so nothing to lose. Strange thing is he's currently only 2k off the last qualifying spot on the one year list so still has a fair chance of retaining his card for next season. Will come down to the worlds. Maybe hearn will look after him again and theres tour school as well, so who knows?

Judd v Vafaei has been a decent contest so far. Impressed with Hossein, 1-2 behind but safety looks to have come on a bundle since i last saw him. Just needs to cut out the UEs and could be a contender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Well done vafaei, thats a quite stunning victory. Ok, judd a bit off colour but still had to pot the balls and win the frames. I believe first time this season judd hasnt reached minimum quarter final. Great run and took a fine performance from hossein to bring him down.

Pretty open now with Trump out and Robertson withdrawn.

Ronnie on here v Gould. Hasn't lost a frame yet and he doesn't look like losing one today either.

Gonna keep a good eye on this over the weekend. I think we could see Murphy in the final.

First Judd loss in a best of 7 Home Nations match since the English Open in October 2019

If williams had fluked that blue i think it would have been match over!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Some decent matches today. Good start for Jordan Brown against Selby. Brown still has a chance for Players Championship qualification which would be massive, though he might need to reach final to make it, not certain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Good contest murphy v maguire, both playing well. Hard to call a winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Carter withdrawn. No afternoon match.

Pity. Carter was playing well the couple of matches i'd seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,272 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Yeah beat Higgins and Allen along the way.

Brown almost over the line against Selby. Did Selby miss the brown deliberately so he could start playing for snookers I wonder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Brown visibly annoyed there. I wonder can he hold it together. He's well ahead but this is Selby's speciality. I wouldn't be surprised if this frame lasts another half an hour..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Brown about to get Selbyd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Wow, well played that man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

What a match that was! Brown looked like he was gonna collapse in relief there, glad he got it done. Selby really put him through the ringer!

Brown completely and totally blew up there. Still has a chance but you have to fancy Selby no matter what.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,272 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Well, he played a poor shot. Got the double kiss which gave Selby the chance he wanted. Brown was lucky to leave the cueball so close to the cushion, otherwise he was going home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Was a bad miss by selby really. Just happy for brown anyway, need a bit of luck like that when you're struggling to make a breakthrough. I dont think he played the snookers situation very well, couple of times he had chance to put selby in bother but passed them up. And if course, he's selby so you're always going to feel you're under pressure, even with scoreboard in your favour. When he blew chance earlier for 4-1, i thought he was goosed at that point tbh.

Yeah exactly. From the moment it went snookers required his game came apart. Played some poor shots giving Selby easy snooker opportunities. Selby will feel like he let that one get away.

Overall a good win though, and I am pleased he's through.

Ford visibly very cheesed off with williams slow roll break off there. Doesnt seem happy with life in general right now it has to be said.

Disaster for ford there. Not looking promising for him here.

    3-2, Ford back in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,272 ✭✭✭waynescales1

4-3, getting interesting now. Wouldn’t know what Tom Ford is thinking most of the time, gives very little away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Credit to him he is making a real fight of this. Was thinking almost certain whitewash after the third.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Suppose williams-ronnie might look better contest but wouldnt mind seeing ford win this at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

That yellow by Ford...4ft overhit? Crazy.

Woeful shot, cost him the match. Safety shot after wasn’t much better, leaving the red to the middle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Way overhit but if white rolls another inch, he's bang on the red! Such are the margins. Had his chance there but couldn't take it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,940 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Ronnie vs Mark should be a great match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Williams hasnt beaten O'Sullivan in a meaningful encounter for quite some time, 7 years to be precise. Though did have the edge when they met in championship league last week and match at the crucible last year was a good contest. On basis of form this week, can see a ronnie win, 6-3 maybe, but will hope for a classic.

Lot on the line for both Maguire and Brown as winner will earn qualification for next weeks Players Championship at the expense of the unfortunate Shaun Murphy. Mags been playing well so you'd have to fancy him here, possibly one round too far for his opponent.
