    2021Six Nations Opener

Italy taking the french route and going hard for youth in this years competition, with the youngest average squad.

With a most probably 0 from 5 incoming for italy.. what are their goals?
To simply develop youth is top, but if they ship record scores again they the cries for their removal from the competition will sound out louder.
    Minozzi is a big miss

France, well, we always knew that if they sorted their defence and "unfrenched" their attitude they would be a serious team... and they have show that in the last 18 months. Fantastic young talent in the squad, and more importantly, fantastic depth of talent too.

will france give us their usual slow start to the competiton or will they come out all guns blazing.

Bookies have this at -24 .... something tells me the italians might just sneak a few scores which might make that spread a little optimistic.

Im saying a routine enough 5 pointer for france to win 15 - 38

Really excited about the Italy side and think they do pose a big threat going forward, I still think France will have too much class and will win by 20 points.

This is worth watching just because of Dupont and Jailibert and Garbisi as well actually.

Plus it's the start of Sixmas! Bring it on

Nice break by Italy but there was a bit of a Jersey tug in there.

Then Italy immediately forget how to tackle and turn to ****.

    That looked very very easy

    Nice rugby from France

This will be an interesting opener for this year's tournament. If Italy win against France with a squad contained with very little experience. It will be a mind blowing moment to the beginning of this championship. I would say Italy will have something in them to go up against the French in this match. It's has a big potential to begin their campaign with a win. But France have tons of experience in them to win big against the other teams when they induce their own flair from inside them. And France have given first blood under the posts with a try in under 7 minutes. If they continue to score like that in this match; it could be quite a long period for Italy to recover their chances to win this match on home soil. I would say France will win it by 20.

Nice opening try from Cretin. Not a stupid selection after all.

    Really good clear, vocal reffing.

    This is great to watch.

    Good stuff from Italy there.

    Garbisi is a lovely player.

Carley is excellent to be fair. The penalty he gave against Italy might have been a bit harsh but he's been really good so far.

The accent on this commentator always does my head in.

Italy don't deserve to be 7 down.

Garbisi's passing and decision making letting him down at times. Great prospect though.

Italy don't deserve to be 7 down.

Their defence for the France try was poor and the loss of possession in the French 22 was through their own errors. The score is probably reflective of the game. But Italy aren't far off making this a game. For now.....

Pity Italy are missing Polledri and Minozzi...arguably their two best players.

They'll probably still lose this by 20 points, but based on the first 25 minutes they've definitely developed the attacking game.

I think he’s the commentator for the schools rugby too! Very hard to listen to! Great match though!

This is going how I taught it would, generally speaking France wouldn’t be exceptional but when it came to key moments France would be able to score tries an Italy wouldn’t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,876 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Delightful from Dupont...although where was the Italian cover?

    Still quality execution from Dupont.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Arduach

That's the difference there. Two attacks in the 22 and 2 tries France.

2 similar positions and nothing for Italy. Coughing up easily penalties too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

France are just powering ahead with 2 tries & 2 conversions within a few minutes.

Ha ha unbelievable. Two assists from Dupont in a row.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Arduach

The old points difference... going to be difficult for us to win the 6N if both ourselves and France are level on 4 wins ;):D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,876 ✭✭✭✭bilston

I could watch that pop from Dupont all day long

It's great watching two teams attacking like this but France are just much better at it.

    Could get very ugly now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Italy taking 3 points earlier felt like the white flag being waved. Penalties are worthless against this French team.

Ha ha unbelievable. Two assists from Dupont in a row.

He drove back one of the Italians 10m a few phases before the turnover that lead to the try. Unbelievable

    They deserved that.

This is the wooden spoon match France are going to forfeit the rest if the games. .

    Great try Italy!!

Ah that's a very harsh call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Ah. I didn't see the forward pass.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Arduach

    FFS.

Getting like VAR with elbows and shoulders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

    Harsh

Don’t see that getting called the other way

    Ah that's disappointing.

Disappointing but probably the right call. I know we're cheering the underdog and all, but if that wasn't called forward against us, we'd be pretty pissy about it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,138 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

That could easily have been left as a "too close to call, stick with onfield decision".

I don't think calling it forward was the wrong call, but I certainly wouldn't call it clear and obvious from what they showed either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Italy can feel properly aggrieved, a few times they’ve been on the wrong calls again.

As classy and brilliant as DuPont is there’s not a hope he’s continually onside.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Arduach

I also thought after the Italian centre's break into the 22 early in the game Italy got blown up for holding on in a split second. France went down and scored.

The underdog seem to get the benefit of ref calls less.

Who’s the TMO, they already jumped in for a deliberate knock on by France earlier when it wa s clearly a knock on, in the tackle.

Was expecting it to be a perfect camera angle to show it as forward based on the TMO's wording, but what they showed wasn't even that great an angle to base such a confident call on.

Should be a penalty there for Italy - tackle off the ball.

    France looking like real contenders.

The second angle was clear to me. Ball left the hand forward.

I wonder is outhalf Jalabert, related to former French cyclist Laurent Jalabert...

Maybe Jalabert is like Murphy over there.

Edit: I see the outhalf is 'Jalibert'.
