    Plus delivery @ €12.95

Great prices, picked up a couple of cases for when allowed to travel again - thanks OP.

Small concern, got my Paypal confirmation but nothing from Adamson - guess their online is not too refined, hopefully confirmation arrives tomorrow :P

Why? It's an irish company based in Dublin......

Is this genuine ? The website looks very dodgy to me. I would wait and try to ring in the morning to see if it's genuine cause it looks like a fake website. Maybe I am wrong but when stuff looks to good to be true it usually is. Seems to be pay by Paypal only which in itself has alarm bells ringing for me.

Not taking the vouchers as per the website message now. Is this a website of a company that is already closed ? Or just had there website stolen. Maybe their website was just poor anyway bit it looks very suspect to me. Not much on their social media about closing down sales.

Don't think they're closing down, not sure where OP got that from. Just a stock clearance sale. https://www.facebook.com/AdamsonLuggage/

Paypal is one of the safest ways to pay and very good to deal with if anything goes wrong.

Glad to hear that the company is not closing down. Good bargains if genuine but I still think I will ring before I order anything and investigate a little more.

The website has always looked something like that, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks OP - ordered a bag there. Odd how it says 'free delivery with this product' on most items but then there's still a charge of €12.95. Despite that, still some great prices.

Website not the best I’ve ever seen but took a punt on a garment/suit bag thing. I don’t cart a suit around very often but when I do it’s always a bit awkward.

I paid by PayPal. The transaction went through but didn’t take me back to the Adamson website. Didn’t get a confirmation from Adamson either like another poster but hopefully tomorrow. Didn’t cost too much and I can always get my money back from PayPal.

Hmmmm, some alarm bells ringing - My PayPal receipt says ' You sent a payment to 'john@admaosnluggage.com'..not a great sign if the shop name is spelt incorrectly...

Coincidence that the OP also has John in their username and posted today after a year, their last post on Boards was 1 year ago and before that 7 years ago

i didn't really need another suitcase but i bought a briggs and Riley one because i'll probably never see them at 70% off again.

I've bought all my luggage here the last few years. Terrible shame to see them close, especially since they're the only place to do Rimowa repairs.

Someone got my card details a few years back and set up a PayPal guest account with my card!

And i had my own PayPal account with same card. PayPal didn't find this odd.

They went on a little shopy spree. So i blocked card. They also set up some kinda Facebook games account and just used the card itself aswell.

Id only used the card online in 2 places and never in a physical location. And i am no amateur with security.

Anywho, many hours of phone calls later, all sorted.

Cue 6 months later PayPal took there money back!!!

    They are assholes.

All email address on their site are correct sales@adamsonluggage.com and info@adamsonluggage.com, so the Paypal being wrong is a bit suspicious. The payment seems to be going to an email on completely different domain. Very odd.

Has anyone that bought from the successfully in the past with paypal confirm if the email address for payment has always been the same?

Have you bought off their online shop?

I have never bought online in Ireland from an Irish company and the default payment method was PayPal. The site does not even seem to offer an option to pay with cards - just PayPal. . Nor is there any info about secure payment etc you usually see on legit sites. The buttons that are supposed to link to their social media sites don't work either. You can add an infinite amount of any given item to your basket. All looks very wrong.

No, but the website has always been fairly outdated looking, so not overly concerned tbh, especially since their FB page has a post about it according to another post.

yes, this all looks well dodgy. I cant see a shop of this size being able to give discounts of 70% off branded goods. The website address seems valid and links from facebook and one4all work but the website is very simple and most of the dropdown links dont work. Would steer well clear although just checked the mobile site and all the links are working still....

Plus the fact “stock clearance” is spelled incorrectly on the main page.

    Looks dodgy as anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,840 ✭✭✭thebiglad

Now getting a bit worried, didn't notice the misspelling of clearance - thats not great!

I did notice the email address was not correct when the Paypal confirmation came through.

I have checked my Paypal and the payment has gone directly from my PayPal account, no redirect etc so if this is a scam not sure how the scammer expects to get any money - even if it takes a while, Paypal will ultimately refund so scammer would not get the funds and Paypal will not be sharing credit card details and I didn't think Paypal transfer the funds immediately to the vendor.

Guess wait for later in the morning and see what transpires.

Sure a small shop cannot afford to take a 70% hit but perhaps they have cash flow issues and just need some money to come in...

Anyone try ringing the shop number to verify? Seems to good to be true...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭amber2

They have a Facebook page that is years old, not recently set up recently and its showing a 70% off sale posted 16 hrs ago.

The shop would not open until 9am, presuming anyone is even in the shop or, they have the phone diverted on.

    Red flags so far

    - Irish based business but shipping from the UK
    - clearance spelt wrong on site
    - only PayPal as payment option
    - PayPal email spelt wrong
    - inactive poster for 8 years sharing
    - in site links not working correctly
    - no out of sale stock
    - limited brands available. (I don't see secrid wallets which were always in their window. The don't even have a wallet option in their product list)
    - a deal too good to be true...

    Any others?

Agree with all points and now convinced this is not legit but...

Maybe simplistic but, how would this scam work with Paypal involved - surely if buyers flag up to PayPal the payments don't get made to 'John'. Presume Paypal do not make funds available immediately.

Does the 'scammer' rely on delay in identifying issue?

The link to Paypal site was legit and with 2 stage authentication not possible to hijack a PayPal account so easily.

    Where's the win here?

I believe the only way of not getting money returned via pp is if you select the recipient as a friend not a business. Might be wrong but think that's the case.
