Yeah, was only joking, she's got 260,000 Kms on the clock now and still going strong 😁

In other news, Elon has rehired the supercharger team!!

There was a large study published last year on this that was well publicized at the time.

Not hard to find on google either.

Tesla have learned their lesson on battery replacements the hard way, they agressively actively manage the battery for years now. If I'm heading to Belfast and it's two hours away and I put the Belfact SuC as destination it will start preheating the battery at departure!

I remember when fast charging my S (often multiple times a day) and the sound of the cooling fans at peak would be outrageous

Apparently that was America only. Now I did notice in Irish terms that the plans for the Sandyford upgrade by the end of September got significantly delayed, and I presume the 3 new locations by the end of the year won't be happening either, so it must have had a wider impact if it was indeed America only. 10 new sites planned for 2025 so let's see how they do

Someone should tweet the great d1ckhead, and tell him that they can't drive from their home to Trumps golf course for lack of superchargers…

24 stall site will be open within weeks, and temp stalls will be deployed overnight.

The annoying part is I know they were talking to someone near the M11 like a year ago but there hasn't been a dickybird since.

(Love the trump part, made me laugh!)

We've made great progress the last two years, if it repeats again over the next two years then happy days.

Their biggest mistake is not actually lack of SuC, its opening up Dublin, there's a feedback icon on the Tesla app so just keep giving out to them about it

Careful, you'll wander into the politics thread with that talk 😉

I thought the original idea was they'd build Superchargers along routes frequently used by Teslas (which seems bizarre since presumably Teslas would avoid routes without Superchargers)

So all of ye have a big meetup in Sligo and we'll soon have a V4 hub that I can plug my ID.4 into 😁

I see the lack of development over the last few years as a lack of focus on a market where regulations and processess are different. The use of a fully remote team who are probably under pressure for results meant that they left more tricky sites to the back of the queue.

The 'boots on the ground' seems to have refocused them, with Dungannon online, Tralee in construction and similar soon at Sandyford. Theres word of several more sites in NI, and a few in ROI so lets hope they make it to construction soon.

The opening of Sandyford before the enlargement even starts is odd, and thats from a non-Tesla driver. The 2 Castlebellingham sites would have been much more understandable, and on a route that really needs it too.

The rumour mill reports that Applegreen were going to throw Tesla out if they opened the M1 stations

After all they'd be competing with AGs amazing single charger

In order to keep the M1 sites they had to agree to not open them.

Folks, I have to go on a return day-trip from Co Louth to Co Galway.

I'm going to do a quick charge in the Ionity at Athlone. I've signed up to their app and have hit "confirm preauthorization" on the app (but nothing happens). I don't think that I have even added (or been requested to add) my vehicle details.

I've only used Tesla chargers before - any tips on what to do? Do I just arrive up and plug in or do I need to do anything else?

    All advice gratefully received!!

You can pay by contactless card at most Ionity locations.

If not, their app works fine for me generally. Once you activate the charger in the app then you plug in and it charges.

Ionity is a good choice, they expanded to 6 units during the Summer

Is that working now? I thought you gave it a go and nothing happened?

From my recollection it was simply that they were going to throw them out point blank. They even went so far as putting a 'Coming Soon' pin on their map for a new site nearby.

Tesla have only said that they've secured the existing location, when discussing this with the Tesla Owners Ireland. No mention of the terms. Applegreen own Welcome Break in GB, which was forced to stop excluding competitors. When they do allow competitors in GB its typically Tesla, most recently at Michealwood (N&S) near Birmingham. I think its a matter of time before it opens to all, what we dont know is the trigger.

That's my worry; my only experience with public charging other than Tesla was near Belfast Airport last summer (at 1am!) where I simply couldn't get it to work (I'm told that it may have been down to a RoI credit card).

Having already signed to the app, I'm hoping for a quick and easy charge at Ionity!

I charged twice in the last week at Ionity. Have used it for the Tesla and the EV6. Intend to use it tonight too.

I've google pay added. You simply select the charger in the app, hit next a few times, click Google Pay and use your fingerprint for authentication. Very straight forward.

Be warned I moved from charger 1 yesterday cos it just stopped charging twice. Thinks there's an issue. 6 was fine.

Brilliant; thanks for that. Can I use a credit/debit card instead?

Things aren't quite so bad outside the supercharger network, but you do kind of need to do some research ahead of time.

For example there's a big hub in the Maxol near Belfast Airport, but chances are you'd only know about it by searching plugshare

I'd still take a Supercharger over most competitors, largely due to them being very reliable and often cheaper

I ended up driving into Belfast to the Tesla SC with about 20kms left! As 99% of my charging is home charging and the rest has been Tesla (in Ballacolla & Mahon Point - both very easy), I'm probably a little over anxious.

I have Easygo and ESB Connect also on my phone but I haven't had to use either yet. I also have Plugshare.

Ionity is handy for this trip as it is quick and just off the motorway.

Yeah, I've also used my Avant credit card. Had no issues.

You can sign up for a reduced rate for 7.99 a month for 3 months. Then it goes to 11.99 I think. Brings the unit price down to 42c from 70c.

If you throw 50kw in you'll already save €14 (50x0.28) on one charge. Might be worth it even for just one month. If you charge both directions you'll save more.

Thats the thing though, when you've experienced using a Supercharger (in a Tesla), anything else is just a hassle..

I brought the young lad over to his first Liverpool game last week, so drove there via the ferry to Holyhead, and despite there being plenty of charging options along the route to Liverpool (including AC charging in the carpark where I'd pre-booked to park overnight), I still opted to just use the Supercharger in Flint (about ~3km offline) on the way in and out again the following day. Arrive, plug in, charge./ not a single iota of thought given to it. 13 minutes on the way in, and 29 minutes the following day on the way home as it was fairly cold so 40 mins driving that morning wasn't long enough to precondition so only pulled 74kW initially, and I took on a bit more as the ship was delayed for a few hours.

Between Superchargers and the Destinations chargers (back when they existed 3-4 years ago), Tesla absolutely nailed charging.

Not bad for a car that had ~49kWh usable when it was new almost 5 years and 100k km ago…
