Who should present the Late Late Show?

    Tubridy has become insufferable.

He has managed to turn every Friday night into some late-night wake.

At these times, Tubridy and those who produce the show should procure guests that lift the mood of the nation rather than constantly remind them of how depressing things can be.

Given the climate, there must be a tonne of celebrity out there who can deliver quality television over Zoom or whatever it may be: entertainers, comedians, actors - whatever it takes.

But this weekly diet of depression has gone on too long.

So, who should replace Ryan Tubridy?

Personally, I think Tommy Tiernan would do a great job. He knows how to strike a balance, depending on the guest involved. And unlike arrogant Tubridy, can actually bring the show back to a down to Earth perspective and throw some much-needed humour into the show.

Just stick a movie on, Angela's Ashes on repeat if there's a misery quota

I'd love to have seen Mike Murphy take it over at some point after Gay Byrne.

Maybe he just wasn't interested in interviewing his pals in rté on a weekly basis.

Agree with Tommy Tiernan. But again, maybe with the usual guest list, he may take a pass on it.

    I wouldn't blame him either.

    Christy Dignam.

He surely knows the ropes by now...he's been on often enough.

I think Hector would be great.

He is great craic - has a great way of telling a story and seems like a genuine likable fella

The Late Late Show needs a bit of freshening up.
    It needs to shorted.
    Less misery slots.
We've enough ads on about Covid and it's mentioned enough in shows such as Claire Byrne. A Friday Night show should be sort of a break for it.
Less guilty tripping by the host.

I'd be open to who's present it once they could be open minded, not pompous, not patronising, etc.

In a nutshell we are very lucky to have great talent bringing in huge amounts of advertising revenue

The token license fee is one of the bills I enjoy paying.

Our broadcasters are the envy of the northern hemisphere

We don’t know how lucky we are

John Creedon is a lovely man, though not the right fit for the Late Late. Still, I'd be interested to see what he could do with it for one season.

    Tommy Tiernan.

And he should have a few pints with each guest and just see where it goes. I'd say Tommy would be in flying form by the end of the show.

Me. Have about as much (prob more) talent than the RTÉ usuals, and I've **** all talent

Doesn't matter who should host it. It will be Claire Byrne.

You would have to wonder if RTE have any sort if succession plan. There never seems to be any young new talent coming through.

There were two young guys covering the news who seemed to be quiet good, especially the roving reporter but even they have disappeared since Christmas.

I can't think if one single person on the RTE payroll that I would like to see do it.

It really needs an update. Someone new, charasmitic and personable rather than the usually egotistic & sanctimonious type we see from RTE. They have to be losing audience everywhere at the moment. The News is a misery fest, the Prime Time is dull & relative and the LLS is anything but light entertainment,a complete misery fest. Really liked Claire Byrne early in her career but she has just morphed into a type the presenter who is nothing short of dull & irritating.

An obvious choice. Very affable man, I think he would have done a good job.

Graham Norton. Of course then the poor old BBC would be left with a problem on who would do there Friday night show.
Tommy Tiernan is a good choice too.

It would be nice to see a Woman take the helm. About time a Woman got to do it. One of the Corrs maybe or Imelda May

Barring illness or accidental death, I can see a wizened old matchstick with snow white hair called Ryan Tubridy getting a big retirement send off on the late late show sometime in the early 2040's.

What a fúcking penance on a nation that is.

    Imelda May[/QUOTE]

In her real "Jayzus, bud" accent or her fake singing voice? the show reaches the whole island, not just Dublin. You'd need translators...

Totally agree, the show is long past its sell-by date and they should just do the decent thing and put it out of its misery.

Anything that doesn't resemble a chat show, which has been RTE's default format for as long as I can remember.

So true. It's well past the time it was wrapped up. All the big debates were sorted in Gay's time.
None of the people mentioned would make any difference. It's time is gone, was gone before Tubridy took over.

Another Tubs bashing thread. He is there for a good reason. Perhaps the team needs a shake up as it has got a bit maudlin. Tubs brings to the LLS his own brand of happiness and is a little ray of light in these times.

I'm glad to say that as bad as things are these days, it hasn't got so bad for me that I'd consider Tubridy a little ray of light. But you're right, something needs a shake up and regardless of who's hosting they could start by cutting it down to an hour.

Nobody, it should be scrapped, so should RTE, its the world depression championships every week, last week, on comes a depressed man, this week, on comes a man who is more depressed than last weeks depressed man, you would get depressed watching it, presented by a miserable bastard as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭Government buildings

There is no point to it. All the topics are rehashed over and over already on several media during the week.
    Too many "stars"on, too often.
Nothing new. This is not the fault of the LL, it's just that we are saturated with media nowadays, unlike in Gaybo's time.
I don't know anyone under middle age who would watch it.
