That price of €1,550 is beyond ridiculous and pure Irish gouging. Even after the EU imposed 25% tariff on certain US products (sports equipment included) the price in France is €1,296.

The ModelD in US is $900 (€742) or in UK at £860 (€968) so EU customers certainly getting a very raw deal. Maybe the new US administration will work on reversing these trade wars and tariffs.

I've been on the Concept2 waiting list since 01st Nov when it was initially 10 weeks and extended out to 16 weeks in early Jan. It's back to 11 weeks now but Concept2 advising they're not shipping to Ireland due to Brexit complications (they're supposed to have an update in Jan). While they are shipping to Northern Ireland at a cost of £40 they claim there could be additional import costs there also. All very messy and a real disaster for anyone interested in purchasing a erg.

Agree it’s a big price increase, which will drive up price of second hand ones too. More people will consider other rowers now.

It's saying 1250 including vat but by the time It arrives I'm expecting to
    end up paying around 1350-1400
They didn't mention anything about them not shipping here though! (Shipping into Ireland will also change from January 1, 2021 as a result of the UK leaving the EU. We will be working with a partner in Ireland to get products to you in the most efficient way.)

Was chatting to the guy who owns profitness supplies earlier, asked him why they were still so hard to get and he said they were making around 400 per week pre covid and now they would need to make 20,000 a week to cope with demand. He doesn't know when he'll have them back in stock but guessing march.
That number seems a bit extreme but possible I guess.

I'm just gutted I didn't sign up in the summer.

d8 fitness will have plenty of stock for the 3rd week in march (132 units)
They expect half to be sold on arrival but have added that if you order now off them they will hold on the original price anytime up till they receive them.

Apollo fitness have no idea when they are back in stock

I saw that piece about shipping late last year alright but this is what's currently posted under their Ireland and Norther Ireland Orders section:
    https://shop-uk.concept2.com/content/61-irish-orders

    "Orders shipping to Ireland
As a result of the UK leaving the EU as of 31st December 2020 we are currently not taking any orders to be shipped to Ireland. We will advise on the new process in early January 2021 once the trading rules have been agreed.

    Orders Shipping to Northern Ireland
IMPORTANT: we can currently only ship erg orders to residential addresses in Northern Ireland.

All orders shipping into Northern Ireland will continue to be subject to UK VAT. However, since Northern Ireland will remain in the EU for trading purposes, the goods will have to go through a clearance process upon entry and may also be subject to duties depending on the recipient and value of the goods, as per the latest guidance from the UK government.

We will complete the relevant information required ahead of the shipment. However, please be aware that there may be delays and additional charges upon entry in the country due to the new processes."

The whole situation is seriously frustrating especially with this arbitrary EU imposed 25% tariff on US sporting goods. What's the justification for that. Even excluding the 25% tariff as in the case of the UK why is their price over 30% more than that in the US, shipping isn't that expensive on a relatively light weight piece of equipment.

20k rowers a week sounds extreme and hard to believe especially if normal production was 400. Part of the problem I believe is Concept is continuing to supply 3rd party sellers in large enough quantities who are then gouging the individual consumer. I spoke to a Irish gym supplier in Nov and he advised he'd be able to have one in stock in about 3-4 weeks as Concept gave them preferential treatment and fulfilled their orders before the ordinary Joe on the waiting list.

    All that waiting for nothing!

We're getting screwed here on all sides!

3-4 weeks, that's sickening to be fair but I guess if fitness equipment can have 60 next week and d8 132 in 6-7 weeks then that probably is the case.

It looks like d8 will be my only option so which I'm ok with rather than paying fitness equipment 300 more and to be fair the latter don't deserve anyones custom with that price.

It's funny though there's no announcement on fitness equipments fb or ig page about the rowers coming in probably for fear of a backlash and from
what I've read about them I'm not sure I'd deal with them anyway.

Have kept a bit of an eye on Adverts for anything reasonable in last few months. That lad in Cork sure can charge, seems to deal in them as has the odd machine and parts available.
No value to be got second hand in them, if anything the asking prices for any I've seen have been at a premium to new. Crazy market

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭KathleenF

Yeah same, saw a second hand one go for €950 at the weekend. Asking price was offered within 20 mins. I think if you were to buy new now for €1250 you’ll prob get it back if you were to sell on, particularly if some places are now charging €1550+ new and people feel comfortable charging €1400 for a second hand one.

SkiErg: 8 weeks from date of sign up.
BikeErg: 8 weeks from date of sign up.

It amazes me that they don't use this for the games.
It's a far better built machine than the assault bike.

I got the link to purchase from concept today but I've transferred the money to d8 for one which will be 7-8 weeks away :(

would it still be easy enough to sell a new one at cost price at the end of march considering gyms might have reopened?

Interesting, similar to KathleenF post above my email wait list shows 8 weeks (I'm already waiting 13 weeks) but shop still shows the wait list as 15 weeks.

Does the link received mention any problems about shipping to Ireland as per their website and the cost involved.
Do you know anyone in Northern Ireland and whether shipping there might exclude the additional EU tariff of 25%, it's so significant and illogical in times of lockdown with people unable to frequent gyms. Surprised there isn't more backlash and highlighting of this tarriff on US sports equipment.

In relation to the Rogue Europe advertised price of €1,022 mentioned above I believe this hasn't been updated to include the new EU 25% tariff. I did a price check with them back in Nov when initially looking and they were the same price but with no availability and no guidelines for same. Concept2 directly were cheaper and I expected they'd supply their customs first before catering to third parties so thought I'd get it sooner.

I'd expect you'd have no issue selling the machine even at a premium in April. The wait list if anything is extending all the time and even if gyms re-open then they'll likely be on a limited capacity. People could well likely prefer to row at home for a few more months until vaccines are more common.

    Off topic:
Have been watching some videos of Cameron Buchan, 6' 8" Scottish rower on Youtube recently. This one he did 100km in a 12hr period last year all, 100mins on followed by 90mins recuperation. Savage work load, I know a guy that did a marathon row and thought that was crazy.

I’m in same position as you. Joined Concept waiting list 29 Dec and got link today but have already paid D8. I’m going to bite the bullet and buy from Concept, don’t think there’ll be any issue selling on for cost price in March.

    Thanks for posting above.
Concept look totally disorganised as don't see why you got the invite after 5 weeks while I've yet to receive it 13 weeks later. Mailburner was a few days ahead of me so was expecting an invite in a few days based off that. Obviously not your doing or issue but shows the problems within Concept.

With all the delays and resulting additional tariffs you'd think they'd throw in a few accessories like the floor mat and seat pad. This product should be €1k similar to the UK except for these tariffs making it €1,250.

Rower dispatched this afternoon, should have it early next week. Delighted. Will be putting the other D8 one on Adverts for cost (€1250) once it's ready. I'm based in Dublin, so if anyone here wants first refusal let me know via PM, it's due in late March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,235 ✭✭✭Dr_Colossus

All the best with the new machine. I presume the €1,250 cost didn't have any additional shipping fees since purchasing from an .ie domain similar to what's available from the UK store for mainland GB.

Did you ensure at all about getting the product shipped to family or friends in Northern Ireland and what that would entail in terms of the EU 25% tarriff?

Mine is being processed now so up to 5 working days and good to know so I'm assuming it'll be dispatched tomorrow.
that 1250 is the total price too

My other one might end up on adverts at cost price too but having been doing crossfit for years I'm thinking someone there will probably take it off me.

If I only knew one person in NI though....other than my now obsolete virtual addresses

why are these so popular, just curious, never really tried a rower

Rowing is a full body low impact exercise that done correctly, works about 85% of your muscles. Concept2 rowers are regarded as the gold standard in indoor rowing machines and are durable, quality machines that hold their resale value v well. Lot of resources online if you’re interested, check out Dark Horse rowing on YT, or Niall O’Toole runs crewclass.net. Some people try different challenges like trying to row 1 million metres, or improving their 2km row time. See below for someone trying to sell their used machine today for €1,500, I paid full retail last week mine at €1,250. Price of rowers due to go up due to 25% hike on import tax for importing rowers and other fitness equipment from US.

I bought a Concept 2 off Rowfit during the week. They are the cheapest I've found at €1,270 and one of the only ones not ripping off customers due to demand. Some second hand ones on Done Deal are going for a similar price.

I noticed a few weeks ago that D8 were €20 cheaper but charge €70 for delivery but didn't have stock right away. I think they've raised their price by €100 though in the last week. Others like Fitness Equipment Ireland are charging €1,550!!!

On the other hand Rowfit have free delivery and have Concept 2 accessories as well if you want a cover etc. I found them great to deal with anyway. Ordered Monday and had it Tuesday evening! Definitely recommend.
