I got no further than 30 seconds into the "winner" before I had to turn it off!

It was the one song I wasn't too fond of at all.

    It was my number one.

Had two of the top 5 in mine. Now please bear in mind that I didn't like any of the tracks anyways so I'm not sure what that says about the whole thing :pac:

Nicely divided already, will more people be with lassy and ASLB, or with Arghus?

Same opinion about Pa Salieu as the majority here, only song I didn't here until the end.

Sorry folks, running late. Toddler refusing to go to sleep. All the stuff is on my laptop so need to be settled to run this show. Hopefully not long...

Edit: should have said I was waiting for the Last Person Standing reveal and blamed Green&Red :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,636 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

OK folks - I'm sat in the dark in the toddler's room, hopefully the munchkin settles and lets me crack on here... :D

First up, we have me :D

    Fifth Place (1pt)
The Lathums, I See Your Ghost
    Fourth Place (2pts)
Holly Humberstone, Falling Asleep At The Wheel
    Third Place (3pts)
    Greentea Peng, Hu Man

    Second Place (5pts)
    BERWYN, Vinyl
The top three were all very close for me, but I think this edges out Greentea. Just smooth, chilled vibes. Some of the lyrics are great too, and I enjoy the little spoken interlude in the middle

    First Place (7pts)
    Girl In Red, Rue
Real drive in the background and her voice suits the song so well. Nice changes in tempo throughout the song too, keeps it interesting on repeat listens. Every listen I like the way it opens up into the chorus

Clarabel didn't want me knowing why she'd voted the way the she did though, she's very enigmatic :D

Nice chilled-out vibe. The latin style influences are class, reminded me of Santana a bit. She seems like an interesting character.

    First Place (7pts)
The Lathums, I See Your Ghost
This is the only one of the groups I have heard of before. They played this one on Jools Holland. Nice energy, good fun and great musicians.

Apparently this is the definitive list :D

How's she's not a superstar already baffles me. A modern Lauryn Hill (althought admittedly not as talented)

    First Place (7pts)
    Bree Runway, Apesh!t
Old school late 90s/early 00s vibes. Almost any rap song that isn't ****ing mumble rap is all right in my book.

It has that tropical jam going on, a brilliant summer song.

    First Place (7pts)
    Girl In Red, Rue
The rhythm guitar is almost identical to song that came out recently, and it's bugging the hell out of me. Someone has to know what I'm talking about!

Second Place (5pts) for the fourth time in a row…!
    Greentea Peng, Hu Man
Great vibe to this, it has a really enjoyable style, and her voice feels like it has a cool hypnotic vibe to it. It's relaxing but still has a bit of energy to it, and is the type of thing I would've heard in quite a few bars I used to go to regularly, back when bars were still a thing... remember those days?

    First Place (7pts)
Holly Humberstone, Falling Asleep At The Wheel
This was easily the stand-out song of this lot for me, and I did think there were some cracking tunes in the mix. It's pretty much on a par with the type of songs I listen to most regularly, really like her voice, and the song doesn't sound too dissimilar to a lot of HAIM songs, who are one of my favourite bands these days.

    Third Place (3pts)

    Second Place (5pts)

Best of the rest, in what is a very unremarkable list. It seems to be a toss up between rap of varying sorts or blandness.

    First Place (7pts)
The Lathums, I See Your Ghost
Clear no. 1, only song I could say I actually liked enough to want to listen to again

    Bree Runway, Apesh!t

    Second Place (5pts)
The Lathums, I See Your Ghost
Two things jumped out at me from this energetic blaster. Firstly, this is so much like early Arctic Monkeys, and that is a good thing. Secondly, he will be cursing himself if they are huge and he is going to have to sing those lyrics at that speed in 20 year's time.

    First Place (7pts)
Holly Humberstone, Falling Asleep At The Wheel
This song had me hooked from the beginning. My initial impression was a female Sufjan Stevens. Simple, direct, but hooky in a good way. Will be back for more.

Nice voice, another one that sounds vaguely familiar, like it's reminding me of someone else but I can't think who. This one's a grower, the song itself didn't really grab me initially but picked up by the end, and on the second full listen it clicked. Very nice.

    First Place (7pts)
Holly Humberstone, Falling Asleep At The Wheel
Getting London Grammar vibes from this one, voice isn't as deep but musically this is who this is reminding me of. The synth at 2:17 picks it up a bit, could've done without the Imogen Heap-esque vocoder bit after but that's only a small part. On first listen this was the only one I could imagine myself putting on a playlist for regular listening. Actually, on second listen, I'm thinking Lorde now moreso than London Grammar. Either way, very good track
