I was evicted from Poland, expired today but was able to renew using VPN. Just make sure you do it via a browser and not the app. Will see how long it lasts.

I would if I could get past the "can't confirm country" message on screen.

Tried it on browser and app. Used VPN unlimited, Nord VPN and signed up to trial Brave Browser VPN, and it's recognising all of them.

Think these tricks are nearing their end.

In a significant policy shift that began quietly at the end of 2024, YouTube has restricted access to its Family Plan subscription, making it available only to accounts that meet specific eligibility criteria. As of last week, the change has been rolled out globally including major markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada with many users now finding the Family Plan option missing entirely, depending on their account’s eligibility.

According to a source at Google familiar with the matter, the new limitations are part of an effort to curb widespread abuse of the Family Plan. The subscription, originally intended for households, had been increasingly exploited by users sharing it with friends or strangers in other countries. A practice that violates YouTube’s terms of service. To address this, YouTube has begun implementing stricter account checks that determine whether the Family Plan option is displayed. Google has not publicly disclosed the exact criteria for eligibility, and the policy was initially tested in select regions before expanding globally.

I have the same you tube family members for years now, I also have a Google one subscription which I share with the same family members so hopefully that keeps it safe for a while

The missus has moved to Poland, I used tunnelbear and her physical revolut card, €7 for a single account.

Edit, the feckers cancelled the polish renewal. I tried renewing to Peru using tunnelbear and it seems to have gone through. I hope they don't track me down in Turkey with my virtual card...

I see YouTube Duo is soft launching in a few countries.

Compared to a single premium sub, it's OK (despite the single sub being too expensive in the first place).

Comparing duo to family is a different story though. The value isn't there in Europe.

I got the email from Poland a few days ago. Was able to sign up again using Nord vpn, however I noticed they have increased the price, it is about 14.50e now for a family sub. I actually live in Slovakia and it is 16e here so not much of a saving.

I went and tried the Turkey apple method, worked very easy. now paying 5e for family sub. No vpn needed. My only doubt now is how long this will last and I really can't see how they could block it. Might be worth picking up a used apple device that is compatible if you don't already have one. you can also create a Turkey apple ID on any device, doesn't have to be apple, just in case they block the possibility of doing that even if you don't plan to use it right away

I have a Turkish apple ID, I also got an iTunes gift card loaded on it, I'm just not sure how I go about switching my current, Gmail address registered account to pay using Turkish gift cards from my Turkish apple id that's a different Gmail address.

Sorry, I'm normally tech savvy, but I'm a complete donut with apples eco system.

I'm currently with Poland (couldn't get back to Romania as YouTube "couldn't confirm my country") after leaving it a few days ago, but I'm just being proactive now incase I get evicted from Poland

Login to your apple device with your Turkey ID. Login to youtube on same device with your normal account. When you go to pay your youtube sub with itunes credit it will detect your logged in with your Turkey ID.

Do I need to cancel current YouTube account first, and sign back up using a VPN?

YouTube detected my (paid for) VPNS a few days ago. Made it hard to even get offered Turkish prices to be honest

No vpn needed, it showed me Turkey prices in the yt app, probably as I was using Turkey apple id on the ipad. You dont need a new yt account either
