Have they given the option to share the survey with other members?

Our Asti rep shared it with us yesterday. I have since deleted the link, sorry. It was to be sent to all members by email from head office but most of our staff didn’t receive it. We were told to email head office to update our details. The survey has to be returned by noon on Monday.
I would contact your school rep or your local SC rep today and ask for it to be forwarded to you.

Agree. Maybe I’m being cynical but wouldn’t a survey at this stage set everything up for the answer they want to hear and trouble or just be able to you did it? I would think by all means survey members but isn’t it incumbent on you to first get more details as committed to in the process you are still part of and when you have that share it plus your survey.

I’d presume given that ASTI were the ones that left the talks last week and then went back in that before they make representations to Norma about the current plan they want to make sure they are not barking up the wrong tree. No point having long arguments with the DES if teachers are generally in agreement with the proposal. That wouldn’t be representing their members.

It’s 5 yes/no questions with no space for comment
    It’s very leading
I am in broad agreement with most of it as we have to get something in place
However the oral set up is ludicrous. I emailled separately but there should have been scope on the survey for more feedback

Ya it was a general case of having information if things go pear shaped.

Basically "well our members were surveyed and said they'd go along with the process in the interest of giving students some certainty, but didn't agree with some of the aspects".

This is like sharing mocks papers lol!.

Q1 and Q2 were just name and branch no.

I haven't heard anything from TUI, I wonder will they do similar. Have to say my own feelings are that outstanding issues (such as the orals, details re how assessment should work etc.) need to be addressed but students have now been told of a system, that on the face of it, they are fairly happy with, I think we need to try make it work as best we can. I'd hate to see a non-cooperation directive or similar at this stage.

TUI have asked members to email a dedicated address with all questions and observations on the proposals.

Yes I saw that since I posted, I was actually coming back to say so. Thanks! Off to write my email now.

Please take this as a question rather than a criticism but if a school runs mocks, does that not disadvantage their students in comparison to students in schools where they are not running mocks. If they were all doing mocks that would be different but if not everyone, then some students would be more or less doing a LC via mocks for their grades and it's not like their CG would carry any more weight than that of other students who didn't do the mocks.
I guess it's a factor of the unpredictability of predictive grades.
The whole process is riven with holes. They have decided to abandon the one purely objective thing we had. A terminal exam. An exam that could have been further modified. Thus inconsistencies like what you have outlined will be popping up all over the place

I assume your school will have some form of an end of year assessment for 3rd years so just continue on as normal and prep for the assessment.
Last year was very different because we never went back to school.

No algorithm to be used in England. Teacher grades to be accepted as they are presented. Same for both exams.

My problem is this. I never corrected SEC. Kids can improve dramatically in the LC. My system of grading is not reviewed so who judges the judges?

I’m guessing we will have slar-like meetings the last week of May.

Speaking of SLARS.....be nice if there was an update on CBAs for both 2nd and 3rd years ....

    Irish times just now
“ In the meantime, the NAPD president called on the Department of Education for urgent guidance to be provided to schools over the oral exams and other assessment elements.

Oral exams are due to be completed in secondary schools during the Easter break, and potentially beyond.”

Most schools offer French and German I think I would be safe in saying
Our school offers French and Spanish
None of the other local schools offer Spanish

Who does those Orals ........more holes in this plan than a sieve

The band for merit is so big, the majority will fall in there. Last year, for the last four weeks of school, as well as class work, I assigned a project to be done during the week, they were 10% each, 10% for participation (to make them do it and it worked) and 50% interactive exam and I think I added in the CBA there somewhere - results were as I expected and students were happy.

If that's the case they might as well hand out the full 40% same as last year.

With regards to the orals, I think it can be the teacher in the school that conducts and records the oral. But they are being sent off to the SEC then to be marked. That’s my understanding of it.

I’m going to say no for 3rd years.

We’re ploughing on with second year ones this week. However, no official guidance from management and some departments have chosen not to do theirs with second years.

I will be one CBA to be completed during second or third year I’d imagine. A load of b*llox anyway.

    Jesus

Had a chat with LCs today as to what they plan to do.

A few sitting paper trying to get a grade I'm gonna give them anyway.

How can we not tell them and save them the needless stress

But remember the grade you give them may not be the grade they finish with.

If they are bright and tuned in then they will be aware of some who got screwed over last year and might prefer to not leave it to a random algorithm to decide their fate.

Or know the grades were inflated and probably will be again

Ah here, it is probably better for them to pit themselves against themselves, than against a bell curve that could go any way. That would be my view as a student anyway, if I was facing this....I have a degree of control over what I can do for an exam, but none over a predicted grade and the ensuing "normalisation".

See that's my view as well. If you are going for high points then why leave it in the hands of a piece of code.

The ones in my class going for high points are all going predictive as they know they're safe at the top of the class. They only taking 2/3 subjects where they think they can better their averages and are avoiding subjects with orals as that'll mess up study plans as they're on over Easter.

Different approaches to logic on this.
