Adding a mod

Hi lads quick query.... My 17hmr has to have the license renewed in March. It does not have a mod fitted. If I want to add this what way do I go about it. Do I apply for the mod on the renewal and explain why I need it to the FO? Then when I get it approved go to my gun dealer and have it fitted. Or do I go to my gun dealer first?

I assume at the renewal stage it is a good opportunity to have this put on the license.

    Many thanks.

    Yes, this.

When approved you go to the dealer and collect your suppressor. Have them fit it if you want, but its a simple screw on attachment and it should never be left on the rifle when not in use..

A useful guide on reasons for the suppressor are here.

Thanks for the advice Cass much appreciated. The rifle is not threaded for a mod so is this a big job to have done?? Presumably my gun dealer will be able to put me in touch with someone to carry this work out...

I am south east based if anyone wants to point me in the direction of someone to carry out the work.

    Many thanks

They should be. Its not a big job and can range in price from €50 to €100 depending on who does the work. Your dealer should even be able to send the gun off for you, but that is your choice as to whether you want to do deal with it or allow the RFD.

Just to cover all bases you can still have the rifle threaded without authorisation for a suppressor. The authorisation is to possess and use the suppressor which does not include preparing the gun, by having it threaded, for the future use of a suppressor.
