    This will raise eyebrows.

Kid in daughter class, last in last Monday, whole class notified yesterday that they are all close contact and have to isolate and get tested.
Got a text today from hse saying you will get another text a day before the test.

Turn around is very slow which means if this variant is spreading quickly the two schools will be shutdown within two weeks as siblings all in other classes.

This is the third time I've heard something similar in the past week. Huge time lag in parents being notified that their children are considered close contacts. School not allowed to indicate or say anything.

    4th class

Wow so only back this week! Still is a good sign that they are maybe doing things a little better this time round.

Well the lagged is due to the testing and results. We still have no appointment.
So say the parent got positive result Tues. Thursday test for kid and result sat.

Yeah, just slow with the testing. No text for us yet. But she would be showing symptoms by now so maybe ok. Had her out early for exercise and now in for the day.

Just got test notification for 3pm today.

Public health expert warns it will ‘be difficult’ to keep schools open

Professor Staines says it will be hard to lift restrictions due to current case numbers

“It is also going to be difficult to keep schools open. We are already seeing more and more cases in schools.”

I really hope the schools stay open. The two months of distance learning didn’t work in our school. It’s only now that we’re back that we can see that, while they completed the written tasks, they didn’t pay much attention to Seesaw. Last week wasn’t bad weather wise and we got out in the fresh air as much as possible. Next week, the Easter bunny is due a visit. Hopefully, if it gets hotter we can bring the classroom outside more.

They are. They can never close again.

Too much is being sacrificed with massive pendulum swings in rules that are having a diminishing return.

Its about time we started to live with this thing, in public, going about our daily business, including vital education. In person schooling must never be restricted again.

9% week on week increase highest since 26 feb

must be paddys day that did it .. oh no wait that was only wed and easter mixing still to come ..

summer 2021 looking less likely at this rate with schools prematurely coming back on 12 april

Post Primary school in Kildare has sent all their 5th years home( only in for a week).

Online learning again until after Easter.

Due to staff shortages and Covid 19 cases.

Trouble is we can't live our life "normally" or the whole hospital system would collapse if we let it spread as you are suggesting ...because thats would happen.

It's about health/safety others not just yourself....people are forgetting this...and shame on this government's shambles of a vaccination programme..

    It wouldn't.

I'm suggesting there is considerable control of measures in public places and none in the home. It is the actions of irresponsible people in their own homes and on private premises that are driving this.

Our school has a number of teachers not coming to the school building for "personal reasons"
The school are then needing sub teachers to supervise the kids who are on school premises while they are taught remotely by their teacher who is at home.

The students who are home still are also having issues. The teachers who have to now be on school premises to teach the years that are back are running into technical/wifi issues so there is been a knock of effect to the remote learning/zoom lessons for those years still at home.

Yeah, they’ve tried that in lots of places. Look at UK, Germany, US, Ireland in December.

Consideration must now be given to sealing up the schools until September

you just don't sit at home and develop coronvirus....where do you think it's coming from?

Its being brought into people's homes by them socialising thoughtlessly with others who are thoughtless, indoors, in the home.

Before comparing 2 sets of data you should ensure you’re comparing like for like. In this case you are not - the cases announced today include a backlog.

So statistically cases have not increased. Yet.

There should be a separate forum for all these doom merchants clinging onto any piece of negative news.

Schools will not close again - get over it.

your arguement is completely contradictory ...you want people to live a "normal life" but at the same time if they were to live a "normal life" (as your earlier post suggested) during this pandemic.. coronavirus would spread and as I said before the health service wouldn't be able to cope and we would be back to square one...
Problem at the moment is some people are been "thoughtless" both indoors/outdoors and we have an abismal vaccination programme and until that changes we are going to face challenges..

And for some reason 1 million kids socializing for 7hours a day 5 days a week is perfectly acceptable, are they not human or something.

You have no way of knowing this for certain. No one does. You may be right and you may hope that they don't close again but no-one can be sure.

Yeah I can as nothing else will open up to keep schools open.

Today's cases don't include a backlog, mostly swabbed Thursday and Friday.

Schools are closing after this Friday for two weeks and if cases don't come down during that time, there is a chance the reopening will be reconsidered.

New variant is really something to contend with. Spreads like absolute wildfire during outbreaks. 75% of cases are under 45 and we'll know more with HPSC data tomorrow.
