If you can afford it, you'd be better sending your kids abroad for their education. Otherwise, send them off into the woods to raise themselves.

I'd say what they are learning about the new variants has them waiting until numbers way down but threat of legal action led them to reopen to SEN students in a limited way. Putting it off allows the numbers to decrease to acceptable levels whatever they are, maybe close to Spetember levels

Nah,it's weak government politicians & indeed opposition politicians who are afraid to do the right thing & make a decision on a date in February for reopening all schools.

Afraid of media hysteria, sensationalism from such a correct decision, add to that unions throwing their toys out of their pram & given a platform through media to do this.

    Haha if only :pac:
There's no point in even trying to reason with posters without kids, outside the education system, with no experience in a related industry, not to mind ones that have to reregister in late 2020.

    Honestly, just ignore.

bump the teachers way to the priority list, this is a government decision, why has it not happened?

I think its very selfish of our school that they are only taking 2 days mid term in February when they had he option to take more. Instead they opted to take the remainder in May and they won't budge on it. Parents would love to get a week off home schooling in February.

save the trouble and jazz it up

It's bizarre but I keep forgetting next week is the last week of school for Midterm :pac:

Vaccination schedule is going to have to be rejigged as the Astra Veneca vaccine can’t be given to the over 70s as planned. 400k doses of it due by end of March .........

These should be going to teachers and asap! Remove the excuse they have. I bet they won't want to be bumped up the priority list. But government need to do it, I dont expect them too, as it's the weakest government in the history of the state probably...

Will they not just go to the next priority group under the existing list?

    I am a teacher
I absolutely want a vaccine as soon as possible so that’s absolute scutter

However , there are many more vulnerable members of society who need it far more than me at the moment .

For 50 odd days of teaching between now and the end of the secondary school year, is it the top priority?

Tougher decisions could be made on the rest of school year plan and more vulnerable vaccinated, e.g. lots of people with serious disabilities and susceptible to diseases are bottom of the list currently - my 17 year old neighbour will die if he catches it but is bottom if the list. Front line workers & many more still to be vaccinated first

Convenient and I dont doubt some of you want to get back Into the classroom. There is far more than just your job to think about in this though its having a bad effect on children on an education front and mental health. It can be very difficult for parents particularly if working, as their babysitting service has been off for months at this stage...

In the states you are near the top of the list for the vaccine, with good reason

With the greatest respect, I don’t believe that teachers, in aggregate, believe that.

The profession have let society down BIGTIME during this pandemic. To their eternal credit, frontline workers have risked life and limb to keep the show on the road. Meanwhile teachers, who work in what is acknowledged as a safe environment, have played the union card and been opportunistic.

People at the end of their tether trying to work from home and home school and keep the show on the road should remember that the next time the teaching unions mention pay. The teaching profession has let us all down.

I want to go back but I'm happy to do so without getting a vaccination ahead of those more vulnerable than me. You appear to be making assumptions based on your own bias.

A lot of hoops to jump through but maybe 8th March? The ECCE restarts then. Or maybe the 15th?? It’s anyone’s guess. Special schools will stay at 50% capacity until mainstream primary is back.
I don’t know how it will pan out though due to staff shortages.

Speaking as a parent, they’re doing the bare minimum, i.e. sweet FA.

This is wartime, and teachers, led by their unions admittedly, are hiding under their beds.

It shouldn’t be forgotten when things normalise.

I think its safe to say and human nature, that it's far better getting full pay and working far less from home, even as a teacher, than having normality resume. Many jobs, people can do remotely and do then to the sane level. You cant provide childcare online. Online teaching for kids absolutely isn't the same. But you dont need to tell me to tell you this humans are selfish, it's ok. I'm not pointing the fingers at teachers here on this, its government failure. I really hate how disingenuous the reasons given are though...

Are you working from home? Also you are another who appears unable to understand the concept of unionism.

Yes, I do. I’m a parent. My friends are parents. My sister’s a parent. My wife is a doctor. I’m here on my own working and trying to teach kids. My wife is on the frontline. And our children’s teachers are hiding under their beds. Teachers led by their unions have betrayed society and are not doing their bit. Never forget. I certainly won’t.

Speaking as one parent, not all parents.

If I was a teacher I would quickly stop looking at this discussion.

One thing thats been clear to me over the past year is that social media discussions are not representing certainly what I think, or what people that I talk to are thinking.

Social Media commentary has for me been one of the very worst parts of the pandemic, and commentary on boards has been at the extreme end of that.

Working as a doctor in a hospital is very different to working as a teacher the two dont compare.

Do you have an issue with gps working over the phone at the moment andnot seeting most of teir patients?

People at the frontline didnt have much of a choice, it's their job. I mean fair play to them. Its weak government that is to blame... not teachers being human in nature and wanting to do as little as possible while getting full payment. While the kids they claim to love and went into teaching for , many are struggling in multiple ways with the schools closed...
