The UK Met Office have named Storm Bella now.

An interesting system that will drop down from the Northwest Saturday and bring some very strong winds and heavy rain with risk of snow on high mountains.

Worst of winds look to be West coast and then Southwest coast.

ECM has been fairly consistent over the last few runs, bit stronger on this in W Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry all very high end yellow and touching Orange level criteria ( gusting over 110 km/h ), quite strong in Donegal, E Galway and Limerick and W Cork also.

On balance between all the models looks like a high end Yellow along Atlantic coastal counties, more so towards the coast but could get to Orange level or perhaps they will use an Orange Marine Warning to cover the coasts.

Very wet, parts of the country could get around 30 mm in about 12hrs

Very large system with a big Wind field, high end yellow along Atlantic coasts, might just nudge into the Orange wind warning level for a time along the W, SW especially Clare and Kerry, highest gusts on exposed headlands and high ground.

It doesn't matter what map projection you look at , it is a large system with a large wind field with a lot of associated fronts and troughs. The Met Office Fax chart's shows it well.

The wind out here is wild and strong already. I have just been out to bring fuel in. and it was... interestingly.... gusty.

Dark, deep grey sky to the east, with three dusky - rose horizontal streaks across the skies.

Exhilarating but enough buffeting . I will heed the opinion of my neighbour-islanders. The man I was talking to yesterday is headed for 70 and was born here and sailing these waters since he was six.

The wind has also started to pick up in the past half hour in this part of Mayo.

ECM and ICON are looking that bit stronger than the other models but the French models are never that far off so would lean towards them. Strongest on the coasts and a good blow across Ireland but not a storm in the true sense, got a feeling Met Eireann wouldn't have named this, being so adamant that the Met Office called it.

Kerry does look that bit strong later tonight in the high end yellow maybe touching Orange level on the coasts for a few hours.

It's not that big a storm, but it's really brought some very dramatically dark skies to the south coast. Could just be the fact it's so short a day, but it feels darker than a typical storm.

I remember that so well, trees down everywhere, electricity out and listening on the battery oprerated radio for updates, and my son crawled for the first time.

Affecting coastal areas and properties and waters.

The noise is intense now, but the dwelling is not shaking. My criterion out here!And hard heavy rain makes up a large part of it

Thank you; that is what my neighbour here was saying about the source. Northerly winds have a very different tone and range out here on this exposed rock.

The Marine warning is for the West coast; West, South west gale possibly Storm Force tonight. Better today than Christmas Eve.....
