Playing my home course Tramore this morning..

It was absolutely in counting condition…

    But not counting..

    Greens in superb order..

Rough areas cut. Course looking fabulous.

Recent drying weather conditions really showing.

Played a few holes today. Same story up in the midlands, things are beginning to dry out. Still plenty of mudballs and soft patches but much better than the same time last year.

Chancing my arm, but any open comps on Sunday with Qualifying, ideally east leinster. I see the european has an open but dont fancy forking out 120 quid (plus the cost of all the balls I'd lose! )

Good luck with that I'd say, doubt there'd be any club with members holding an open on a bank holiday Sunday.

Moyvalley will have an open on

Have Balcarrick changed all their holes around or was that temporary? Played it last year and there was much confusion.

AnAnyone wear a glove on both hands? Thinking it couldn't do much harm, and might help with strike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,049 ✭✭✭coillcam

Only in the rain and they're designed for the wet conditions. If it's a bit of drizzle I'm still using 1 glove as normal.

I also have a pair of so called thermal gloves for winter but I never found any benefit from them so they're not used at all.

Otherwise I use mittens attached to my trolley when it's bitter cold. Definitely helps keep the hands warm between shots and makes it a lot more comfortable.

Only wet weather gloves, otherwise rechargeable hand warmers in winter

Have Monday off work and going to play an open as home club timesheet is fully booked with a ladies comp.

    North Dublin based and brs tells me these are the options;

    Grange castle

    Margaret's

    Donabate

    Balcarrick

    Corrstown

    Balbriggan

Have only played Margaret's before, and generally prefer parkland over links. Which would you play, given a choice?

Only frame of reference for me is the first 4, and would say Margarats is the best of those.

You could argue playing Grange Castle as its on the Boards rota, if you wanted to gain some inside knowledge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭blue note

I haven't played Grange castle, corrstown or donabate, but the other three are all very nice. Margaret's probably the best, Balbriggan close second and balcarrick Very nice to play also.

Corballis have an open monday but are not on brs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,561 ✭✭✭VW 1

Cheers, have booked into Balbriggan after the advice above and consulting the Kevin Markham book also.

if it’s tomorrow your playing best cancel and play Margaret’s which is in great condition atm, so I heard from a friend.

Definitely play Balbriggan again in few weeks, it recently has the greens hollow cored and fairways sanded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,561 ✭✭✭VW 1

Went to play balbriggan and glad I did. Lovely track, one of the better parkland (imo) courses I've played in North Dublin. Had been forked and sanded but the greens ran fast and true and there was good run on the fairways. Nice weather and playing half decent always influence an opinion on a course though

Glad you enjoyed it, it’s a cracking course.

Plenty of trouble but it rewards good play.

Lads - would anyone be interested in golf in mount Juliet on 12th April? I booked 2 lines (around 12pm) and only have 5 people for them. They're 70e a head - it's an open comp.

I'll cancel them on Monday if no-one wants them. Just said I'd offer them here first.

Anyone know if there is a way of searching to see if someone has a GI membership without knowing what club they are a member? Thinking of inviting someone for a round of golf in one of the expensive courses and would be happy to pay GI rate but not full visitor rate! Can’t really ask them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,060 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

I'm not aware of any, on the GI app because you can only search by name in your home club in the app.

You need club and GI number to find someone from an outside club .

Looks like maybe you could search by name or email on the HDID app, so if they're a member of a club that uses HDID you might be able to find them

    Screenshot_20250327_163733_HowDidiDo.jpg

Obviously If you're searching by email that'll be specific, but searching by name it could return a lot of results depending on how common their name is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,049 ✭✭✭coillcam

Spacecoyote has this pretty much covered. I'd google the person's name and golf to see if anything shows up recently. Usually a name will flag up from a club/society result.

Other than that you'll have to finesse the info from them to see if they a member of a club. If you know the play golf… Surely it's not too hard to ask them if membership has gone up in cost in their area or something along those lines in general conversation.

    Thanks both. That helped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,060 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

If you don't have access to HDID, feel free to PM me with some details and I can run a search and send you on the results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Sorbet

Thanks, I have it. Found only one person of the same name and they were in the UK so that’s full visitor rate so!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,060 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

There is the other catch though, that they're a member of a club that doesn't use HDID.

Could be wrong but I don't think Clubnet customers are linked into HDID are they @Golfgraffix ?

There's handicap master also. Clubv1/HDID probably most common but a good few clubs are on other providers.
