Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Am I the only parent who wishes that for this one night the LLS would start a bit earlier?

    Maybe start it at 8?

Starting at 935 means young kids are not getting into bed until midnight nearly, and then they are tired for days after it.

It's not (primarily) for kids. Also, it's always been repeated on the following Sunday afternoon.

Will the theme once again overshadow the toys ?
Last year was a shambles, with very few toys visible on the set.

My own kids said there was too much singing and not enough toys last year.

I think there has always been too much singing, but thats the nature of the show now, they are ramping up the talent slots.
But they definitely need more toy time, thats what the kids want.

finally a decent theme. was last year the circus? that was awful muck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,231 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

I think I will give it a watch only because I think this could be the death nail in his RTE career
All Toy Shows from Gaybos time was the live audience of dressed up, drunk adults and the participation of the Billy Barry kids and strange kids demonstrating the non working toys.
With this virtual guests and very few kids I think Tubs will be found out as the amateur he is

Just caught him on with Maura and Daithi..."we need the Toy Show this year"..."harnessing kindness"..."kindness is contagious" etc., etc.

He seems to see this as some kind of metaphysical event that the country needs to help us understand and cope with our lives in the year that "the thing" (his term) happened. No Tubridy, it's just a f**king TV show....no more, no less.

I don't think I can even bring myself to watch for the craic at seeing such a deluded individual make a show of himself. But I suppose (young) kids will enjoy it.

    This is a great post

Kids up and down the country have been patiently waiting on it. And they do every year.

I know its been the talk of my kids school all week.

To say its not for kids is nonsense.

Eventhough it's the Toy show, drink a shot every time Tubs says Covid. P*ssed by 10.30 I bet.
Will there be a misery slot like last year I wonder?

Just wondering how it's gonna work tonight. Is there kids in studio?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,695 ✭✭✭Chivito550

So how many Christmas songs will be performed tonight? In recent years it has ranged from 0 to 1 each year. No Xmas songs have made Ryan's favourite moments from past shows either. Since Ryan took over this he has de-Christmased the Toy Show. I still enjoy it, but it could be on any time of year now as there's nothing Christmassy about it anymore. I miss the Gay Byrne days when it was so festive.

Another shot anytime he says it's important to buy Irish.

Yes there will be misery slot and probably a "family member who can't come home surprises mum by being on Skype"

Is it just rte and rte player it can be watched on. Can it be watched on you tube

Its a slobberfest with Rte feeding and advertising this toy show as the next coming of christ. It is a marketing ploy designed to increase ad revenue with as many eyes glued to the idiots lantern. Notice how the opening of shops etc coincides and to be a bolix....coincides with this show.

Ray darsy dressed as a clown would do as good.

    Enjoy

As long as you understand that its ALL about Turbuddy. Hes created that niche for himself. His late late shows to date this year were crap.

Seeing most reputable stage schools have been closed since March because of virus. I dont understand how they could accommodate a group of children dancing or singing together.

I hope he remembers its ALL about the kids. Can't stand the man, but I hope the kids enjoy it anyway.

You know what it's all about tonight...it's about Tubridy and getting a kid to go viral.

RTE probably already have their tweets scheduled.

Bit of redemption needed this evening after Mehole slammed the door shut on traditional pubs. Some cringe factor along the lines of this calamity would be just the tonic:

Kids just put in bed by 9. Me and the missus left alone with 2 bottles of Lidl's cheapest plonk to enjoy.

my kids have no interest in the toy show, never had and never will. it's something that we adults watch for nostalgia but it'll die out eventually. i actually don't enjoy it either, there's nothing christmassy about it anymore, its a stage for tone deaf Tubridys ego and a showcase for the billie barries and other pretentious stage schools. Ugh thats not what christmas is about at all.

We just put the tree up. Its really gaudy with all non environmentally friendly tinsel and plastic baubles. Its beautiful.

I wonder what sort of tree Ryan has.

In the Gaybo days it used to be the show when the most popular toys were show cased, that kids could get an actual preview of what toys they wanted before they went to see "Santy". It had an actual purpose with the toys being the crux of it. You had the odd Billy Barry routine to make up the running time. Now it's the inverse. Routine after routine with some toy reviews done to validate it being called the "Toy" show. It's akin to a long advert for those schools of "performance and dance".

    I disagree.
I grew up watching the toy show in the late 70s early 80s.

We were annually pissed off with the abundance of Billy Barry kids and the shortage of actually talking about the toys.
