It will show up as out of stock online if 1 unit or less is available in store.

Anyone here get any 30th Anniversary stuff from Amazon?

I didnt see the controller in stock at all and was checking regularly for a while (then stopped). Seems like the only place we can rely on for stuff in Ireland is Smyths.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭jones

Is the Pro model not on sale on amazon.co.uk? I have it preordered anyway with Smyths but just surprised it wasn't on amazon wanted to see if they had any bundle with the disk drive etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,065 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

They may have been geo blocked, Amazon have been doing this more regularly. If you find your way to the listing for geoblocked items it will say it's "Temporarily out of stock", as soon as you switch to a UK address stock will have miraculously been found.

Either way the Anniversary Dualsense is sold out on Amazon UK.

I managed to fix three of my white PS5 controllers that had all ran into issues with the R2 and L2 triggers and were fit for the bin.

If you are in the same boat (the triggers lose their stiffness, making the triggers annoyingly registering pressure when you barely touch them) then it's a fairly easy job to open it and replace the small broken spring. Which can be picked up on Amazon for a few euro.

I was surprised at how easy it was to open the controller too.

Just in case you have any in the same boat.

The disc drives look to be back in stock in Currys for anyone still looking

Anyone know if Smyths pre-orders generally arrive on release day? Have a dispatch email from Smyths today for Silent Hill tomorrow, being sent with DPD. Usually no issues with DPD in West Dublin.

Ordered it for delivery even though I'm 10 minutes from Fonthill as I didn't think I'd have time to play it but it looks like I'll have time tomorrow night. But if it doesn't arrive, I can't buy a copy from the shop and return the online order as they don't accept returns on unopened games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,065 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Smyths allow returns of games as long as they're shrink wrapped and you have proof of purchase. The online order should arrive tomorrow without issue, the only times they've missed release date delivery for me is near Christmas.

Haven't most of the recent COD games been 200GB+? Is this their way of trying to reduce that or will they still be 200GB+? Seems like it's just replacing one issue with another.

Then again, in fairness who is buying COD if not to also play the online modes anyway? As much as I've enjoyed some of the previous COD campaigns, they're a bit of fluff. People will be buying the game to play online.

So now that they have SSDs they think streaming would be the way to go? No sense.

Still, nice of them to let you play a single player game without the need to pay for online. 🙄

As much as CoD devs have to their credit always prioritised high quality assets (and frame rates), I still don't really get why they have this massive file size problem when barely any other dev does.

The obvious comparison is Microsoft Flight Simulator (also switching to a streaming model for '24), but they're capturing the actual world so a tad more acceptable in that context IMO 😅

So they recently moved to reduce the size of the games by introducing texture streaming in multiplayer you don't even have the option to download the texture files anymore which is stupid for those of us who have added in extra m.2 SSD storage.

Just noticed that the new welcome tab is showing up now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,462 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yeah mine turned up last night too. It's.... grand.

I still long for old school themes.

When i saw you could add a screenshot as a background, i got a huge smile and then saw the pic can be seen for a second before hidden by all the digits, wish that could be kept while scrolling across your games.

"Grand" is the perfect word to describe the Welcome tab.

Oxenfree II is 2.39e on the store for anyone that doesn't have it in their wishlist but is interested.

Cant say no at that price.

We had doubts, we were sceptical. The original Horizon Zero Dawn with its 60fps upgrade for PS5 was already a highly attractive game with excellent performance. Was there any real need for a remaster? Sony, Guerrilla and Nixxes decided to challenge our opinions by giving us early access to the game with no restrictions. And yes, Horizon Zero Dawn with its 60fps upgrade for PS5 is still a highly attractive game with excellent performance - so to what extent is the game improved and is the endeavour worthwhile?

Beyond image quality differences, however, the three modes are all roughly the same. Personally, the image quality in performance mode is strong enough that I recommend this mode over the others. Nixxes also confirmed to us that Horizon Remastered already includes PS5 Pro support which will automatically activate when played on the new console. It's also worth mentioning that performance is, by and large, perfect. Each mode delivers on their performance targets, along with an unlocked frame-rate mode for VRR displays. This doesn't deliver frame-rates that much higher than 60fps, but it's nice that it's there and of course, there are potential benefits via playback on future PlayStation hardware.

Just noticed that psn wallet top ups are not showing up as rewards for playstation stars. Plenty people posting same thing on reddit

Some of the work done looks unbelievably good. For €10 upgrade, its a bargain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,756 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Yep, it's incredible how much extra work that went into that remaster and only places like Digital Foundry calling it out. People have no idea how painstaking that work must have been.

I platinumed hzd back when it came out but I haven't played the burning shores dlc for forbidden west. Considering they are both a tenner and I've the pro console coming in 2 weeks which would you get? I'm leaning towards burning shores to show off the pro

I have no doubt plenty of developers at Nixxes did good work on this update and that deserves to be acknowledged.

Still think the project was not 'needed' when there are a lot of Playstation games out there that could do with a tech update much more than Horizon: Zero Dawn, which ran and looked fine in the first place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,787 ✭✭✭✭Penn

And which already got a PS5 upgrade to make it run even better.

That said, because time feels f*cky the last few years and we're getting diminishing returns in terms of graphics, you'd tend to forget the original is nearly 8 years old. It looked and ran fine, but there's no doubt these improvements will make it absolutely stunning and the real reason for it is that it's more of a showcase for the PS5 Pro than something gamers really wanted or something that was needed.

I do think Sony is 'remaking' these games primarily to have shiny, full-priced versions available to newcomers when their TV / film adaptations are released (though the Horizon one is in development hell last I heard). They're also doubling down on their flagship titles.

I in general don't agree with the current trend of completely redoing the graphics of titles when rereleasing them, as I think you're changing the game as originally intended which comes with a lot of consequences. But there are plenty of PS3 / PS4 games that are in real need of proper 60 FPS versions or even rereleases as they either run poorly or aren't even available anymore. When I see such loving care being poured into an 'unnecessary' overhaul of TLOU, Horizon or Until Dawn, it's fairly frustrating. At least the first two seem to have been competent updates, unlike the latter which seems worse in some respects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,092 ✭✭✭OhHiMark

Why are worse quality graphics what was originally intended, but not a worse frame rate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,462 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yeah, completely agree on this. It's one thing if these remasters are side-hustles in the background but entire studios are being used for these games.

For me, like you said, there are so many games stuck on PS3 that they could easily remaster and make some money off. Killzone, InFamous, Resistance, Motorstorm, Sly Cooper. Re-doing games that are fresh in a lot of people's memories just seems a bit wasteful.

There are many valid reasons why studios want to remaster relatively new games. A big one is to give staff something to do and keep them employed between big projects. I think HZD sold over 20 million copies. So if only 10% of people buy the Tenner upgrade that's still 20 million dollars coming in. That's enough to not see mass layoffs but importantly retain skills.

But not just retaining skills, if they have hired new people, it gives them time to get used to working on the game engine and code base etc. So when you need to ramp on the next new main title you have the people in place with the skills needed.

Naughty Dog and Guerrilla games will likely have their next big project in the pipeline. But that could be a 2-3 year wait before it is ramped enough for a full dev team.
