Was reading about the trials Sony are doing for Sackboy(5 hours) and Death Stranding (6 hours).

The time starts when you click the Download button so the time it takes to download is included.

Great idea but including download times in the trial period is beyond short-sighted. Should be gameplay only, similar to EA Access.

Whoever made the decision to have the download time included in the playtime is an idiot. As mentioned above, just copy EA with their EA Play 10 hour trials.

They really do make some dumbass decisions sometimes.

The old ps3 trials were just an hour in most cases, If they did include game time only there's no guarantee it'd still be 5 hours.

EA has it as a feature of a paid service and considering its ea it's mostly micro transaction fill mp games, rather than a free single player game you probably easily could finish or mostly finish in 10 hours

EA haven't done it for recent single player games (eg. Star Wars or Lost in Random), just the sports

Anyone know how accurate Smyths are with their release dates? Just noticed Alan Wake is on their website as the 7th rather than the 5th, I was hoping to grab it on my lunch break tomorrow as everything will be closed by the time I finish work, otherwise it will have to be Wednesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,435 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I had been keeping an eye on that and it had been the 5th the whole time but now you can no longer preorder online so either they fulfilled all preorder copies and won't get more until the 7th or they just closed them a day early which they usually do and the site gets updated on release day with copies showing up in stores. Gamestop has it for 30 as well and i assume Argos will be selling it also.

AW definitely out the 5th, just a Smyths thing how they seem to manage stock the day or two before most new releases

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,557 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yep that's it. Had a conversation with them about this the other week as I bought Deathloop on the Monday when it was still a "preorder" but didn't get any of the preorder bonuses (Bethesda sorted me out directly in the end). With Smyths, they essentially close ordering the day before for a short period to fill their pre-orders and adjust their systems from a pre-order to a regular order (coding etc. changes). With Deathloop, I ordered after the filling period but their site hadn't updated.

That was long and boring but the tl:dr is that the day before releases, Smyths systems get a bit funky.

I really want to play Alan Wake and the price point is great but worried it might be a bit old and janky to enjoy. Gonna wait for reviews I think.

I've it preordered with Smyths, always wanted to give it a go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

Has it shipped for anyone yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,557 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

    Nope, not yet.

Reviews coming in for JETT the far shore. I think it's fair to say they're mixed at best, for what it's worth currently 66 on Metacritic from 19 reviews

Yeah the previews a month or so ago were a bit negative so not surprising.

    :(

I think this is the third PS5 game I've wanted that Argos haven't had at launch this year.

Yeah, I've noticed that with Argos as well, some big names not being available at launch. I wonder if UK Argos are keeping extra copies or what. I just hope they have Far Cry 6 as I plan getting that from them.

Would you consider buying from the Ubisoft store? Could use Ubi points to get 20% off. Not sure if it works out cheaper but worth a look. I did it for the Ultimate Edition.

I have an ALL 4 One card so my options are Argos or Gamestop and I reeaaaaallllly don't want to buy from Gamestop.

Do Smyths have it? I pre-ordered a month ago and they haven't even shipped it yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,435 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Alan Wake not in any Smyths store, says expected in stock 7th October. I assumed preorders would make it out on the 5th. Checking Gamestop, you can't seem to collect in store, just order for delivery. Must be a serious shortage of copies of this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,429 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

I managed to get a PS5 copy from Argos in Blanchardstown. Looks like it was the only copy on either platform from any of the shops I checked. I noticed GameStop had it alright, PS4 version popped up then shortly after the PS5 version.

Shops obviously only getting the deliveries this morning but looks like next to nothing. Best bet is to try Smyths on the 7th or order it from GameStop and hope it arrives soon.

I’m in no rush but this is a bit of a pain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,429 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

Looks like some Argos have the PS4 version if anyone's looking. I wonder if it was unexpected demand or just delayed shipments. Good few people said they weren't interested so I didn't think there'd be much demand (if there is much, that is).

4K will certainly look a lot nicer than the 960x540 resolution on the 360!

Are you better off getting ps4 version or does the ps5 version have more to offer? There's a free ps5 upgrade I assume..

My local argos now just recently added it for collection tomorrow for ps4 or ps5

Apparently people are having issues upgrading the PS4 version so I'd say go with the PS5 version for now.

Is there any easy way of getting the Ubi points? Or is it simply from buying stuff off them previously?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,557 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Playing any Ubisoft games if you have them like Assasssins Creed etc. They usually have fairly straightforward challenges that earn Ubi points.

About 3 hours into Alan Wake now. The updated faces look a bit odd but I have to say it's a good looking game considering. Gameplay can be a bit clunky at times, there was a section where I needed a few tries to pass 4-5 guys because I had no flares or anything and it is a little challenging but other than that it controls fine.

Something a number of reviews mentioned was the gameplay being outdated compared to modern games. Every game has forced skill upgrades or crafting and it's unnecessary in a lot of games or at the very least should be simplified. Not an issue here, it's actually a nice change not having to decide between health or a weapon mod.

For €30 it's definitely worth checking out if you haven't played it before and as long as you understand it's a remaster and not a complete remake so obviously no HDR, ray tracing on the older engine then there's not a ton to complain about.
