I think they failed to get to the heart of the issue, which I'm still not sure of the answer to....was he allowed to leak that document?

That's all that matters to me

    It’s not illegal.
That’s what I got from it. He read out some Act earlier.
That was the one bit I was interested in.

Very good there from Catherine Connolly. Nailed it.

He did it to buy off a campaign.

Wouldn’t be so sure there’s no illegality. Let’s see...

If you were watching, he read it out.
    So what do you mean?

Did anyone in the dail mention it being illegal? I dozed off for a bit.

So, all has become clear. O’Toole comes across as jealous, spiteful and immature. He’s obviously very upset that Leo isn’t that into him.

I think Labour know and I suspect SF know that there is more to come here.

They walked him into making statements that will be the end of him if the Village has anymore.

Either way, the sleaze image deepened as a result of this evening. That is the damage that has been done here.

I am not inclined to believe that.

To stand in an election requires cash and the NAGP didn't have any. If it has been the IMO then I would have believed it but not from some pissy virtually non recognised union (who were not even invited to talks).

All bark and no bite to threaten to stand in an election

Silly from Leo but not a sackable offence. There are worse things that can happen/have happened before. Leo has his faults but I find his intentions are usually good and isn't a malicious person. For a politician, he's actually very honest. Even too honest at times.

What's more appalling and pathetic is the subtle homophobic comments being aimed at him, and the smear campaign from Sinn Fein. Mary Lou flat out on Twitter sharing articles and stories and getting involved with everyone online. Such a lack of professionalism it's unreal. Like a teenager at the back of class crying out for attention. The ultimate contrarian - criticizes everything and offers no solutions (or, they'll offer ALL the solutions with zero indication of how they can afford it).

Varadkar is an asset to SF.

Speaking with knowledge of FG members,

Firstly he was never popular among ordinary members

Coveney was their choice over him

With this they are incandescent with rage over the way LV shafted various long time loyal members over less than this incident.

he will have to watch his back for the foreseeable.

    Gone by Friday I'd say.

He actually did reasonably well there but 75% of the questions / statements from opposition were either repetitive or stupidly off point. Others though (Doherty, Quigley, Connolly) made him squirm and his blustery answers pointed to lies in a couple of instances.

Any sort of a follow up on this and he's toast. Rightly so I might add.

The village do seem like the daily mail.

Milking every day out of it.

    Just spill the whole lot.

Surely the people deserve that if they care so much????

He has admitted leaking other stuff. His credibility is shot to pieces.

I doubt his own party will trust him from now on.

If they know stuff but chose to leave it for another day then that’s taking the piss out of the electorate that they are all there to represent.

There are more important things going on right now in the lives of ordinary citizens and this “drama” isn’t worth a second series. Get on with their bloody jobs!

Only 31% of his party voted for him in the first place to be leader.
Varadkar was never exactly the chosen one among all members.

    What did he admit leaking?
I thought he said a few times he's never did it apart from this.

Has Simon Harris made any comments?

    Exactly.

Much more important issues but party point scoring comes first.

    You believe that lol?

Posted this earlier, read it then think about it for a second.

Poor Leo, imagine the very first and only time in your life that you ever leaked or passed on sensitive documents in your political career through skulduggery backchannels, and you get caught.

    What are the odds.

    They all leak something.
Unless he does something illegal, I can’t see him going anywhere.

The Village is a business, if they nail him their reputation and their ability to survive soars.

Wouldn't expect any publication like theirs to do it any other way.

Gone by Friday? Were people watching the same thing as me? They didn't really land much more than glancing blows to be honest. A few cringe moments from Leo isn't going to end his political career.

I don't know, provided nothing else even crazier comes out in the mean time he's pretty much going to weather it. They didn't get him on anything concrete or illegal - there's still no suggestion that he actually broke the law and nobody made a convincing case that he actually had. That's really the only thing they can nail him on.

An embarrassing enough evening for Leo for sure, but, nowhere near enough - as it stands - to suggest he's a goner. I was waiting for him to put his foot properly in it or fail to deal with a question, but that didn't really happen. People need to be honest about it.

    I think the question

Did you ever leak anything else?

Was asked for a reason, Id say they have something else.

Did you think Catherine Murphy, Paul ‘Mao’ Murphy, Richie BB, or the Healy Raes did anything impressive this evening? Did they impress you?

Not been watching. Just getting highlights on the radio.
Leo's caliber is not up to the standard of many independents. TBF not everyone in FG is a leak. Wouldn't generalise about independents either.
