The anti-sugar crusade is just the latest food hysteria. Five years ago the same idiots were going gluten-free and cutting out dairy. Before that it was fat and cholesterol.

What next I wonder, they'll be saying that cigarettes are bad for you.
    It's political correctness gone mad.

Baked beans? cheap. I buy the cheapest tins, wash all the chemical "tomato" muck off them, add olive oil, oregano, rosemary, passata, tomato puree, dash of Worchester, Herbamare and pepper, cook for a few minutes in a small pot, and you have fancy gourmet style baked beans for a fraction of the price you pay for the most expensive organic ones in the supermarket. And better ingredients.
I like them on sourdough or a blaa if I don't have sourdough, with cheddar on top.

Cigarettes are inherently bad for you.

    Sugar is not.

People with common sense know sugar is addictive and very bad for you, millions of people eat far too much of it.

I like beans blown all over my face or on toast. Not really fussy.

I've been in this planet nearly 28 years and honestly I've always thought beans had to be eaten hot

People with common sense know an excuse when they see one and 'Sugar is addictive' is as flimsy as they come.

No, it's not. If sugar is 'very bad for you' then so is eating fruits and vegetables. Virtually everything we consume contains sugar of some form.

Millions of people eat too much food in general. Not sure what this has to do with your claim that 'sugar is very bad for you'

Are you sure you don't want to rephrase your opinion along the lines of 'too much sugar is bad for you' ?

Heated in a pot, mashed into toast with a runny fried or poached egg on top with a few pinches of salt

Yeah.. I was once given a delicious strawberry waffle at a craft fair. Heaped with cream... A seaweed seller shouted at me. " FAT AND SUGAR! "

    Everyone turned round and stared.

    Killjoys!

    Proof please?

In moderation, it is a great food. Pure energy. Easy to assimilate. And you cannot avoid it without starving yourself.

    A treat does everyone good!

In a cup, with a sausage. Otherwise known as a "Michael Special" or a "Savoury 99".

I can only eat baked beans as an accompaniment to a traditional roast. On rare occasion I might last them on the slice of toast, but thats more likely to happen with a small tin of spaghetti hoops.

    Also, ONLY EVER HEINZ.

Processed sugar is very addictive and very bad for you and only a conspiracy nutjob would disagree, sugar in fruit n veg is grand. For some people processed sugar is as addictive as alcohol or drugs.

Yes it tastes amazing but it needs to be in moderation due to how unhealthy it is.

How is it addictive exactly? Physically? Psychologically?
    Greyfox wrote: »

Source please. One that backs up your claim that processed sugar in any quantity is 'very bad for you'.

Sucrose (table sugar) breaks down to glucose + fructose in your body. Glucose is your body's main source of energy and fructose is the sugar found in fruit and veg. We literally could not survive without sugar.

Its addictive just like alcohol, cocaine and porn, chocolate tastes amazing but it can effect your brains dolpohmine levels in a similar way to what drugs do. Just in case you didnt know high quantitys of refined sugar makes you fat and been fat can lead to loads of health risks, every doctor will agree

Large amounts of any food will make you fat. If you burn 2,500 calories a day and consume 3,000 you're going to put on weight whether the extra calories come from carrots or Mars bars.

In any event, nice to see that you've gone from 'sugar is very bad for you' to 'refined sugar is very bad for you' to 'high quantities of refined sugar is very bad for you'

You're agreeing with me, in other words.

All calories are not equal though, mars bars are empty calories.

So how do you like yours?

I once fired a load of spices into some.baked beans trying to make curried beans. The aftermath of consuming all that would have made for a decent contribution in that What's the etiquette here thread haha.

Not true. Each calorie is packed to the gills with deliciousness, unfortunately then there's just no room left for nutrients.

I watched one of those how do they make it programs, now admittedly it was Heinz, but their tomato sauce is definetely not chemical muck or low quality.

I was pleasantly surprised ata the quality, actually.
