Debut and Avalon are my favourites - great way to start and finish.

Saw them at the Olympia with Stereolab, deadly gig. Also in 1996, I was eating a Goodfellas pizza in my flat. Millions Now Living Will Never Die was playing on the turntable. Couldn’t hold in a sneeze while chewing the last slice. Some of it landed on the record. Bad buzz.

I've been listening to Susan O'Neill's new album Now In A Minute. (On repeat.)

I saw her live 2 years ago, only knowing of her collaboration with Mick Flannery, and having heard none of her own work.

She's so underrated, an amazing songwriter and singer. Would recommend.

Finally got a chance to listen to Bruce Dickinson's "The Mandrake Project" over the weekend. Awesome album, it's hard to believe the man is 65 years of age.

Crucified Barbara - In Distortion We Trust

Hadn't heard it for at least ten years, but given they are getting back together I felt compelled to listen again.

Big Motorhead/Metallica influence, it's heavier than I remember, some lyrics are really terrible, they matured a bit and got better but it's a good debut album.

Which pressing is this and what is the sound like?

I bought the brown vinyl edition in 1994. It has inner groove distortion on the closing tracks on sides E and F. Quite a lot were affected. I got the black vinyl later on that year and that was also noisy. Ended up buying the double CD which sounds better than both - the format is better suited to this type of music IMHO. Only play the vinyl now to hear track E2 which was omitted from the CD. I know it has been repressed but am not sure if I need yet another copy…..

It's the recent 30th anniversary. I kind of dismissed it at the time as it didn't have the same factor as Selected Ambient Works and I was in to faster and more techno orientated things. It's ambient heaven - on my forth listen since I got it. Did manage to see him live twice last year and I'm still getting over it.

    Metallica- Master of Puppets

Most would probably pick Ride the Lightening as their best but this is my favourite.

    Pixies - Surfer Rosa

First heard it in school and it changed my appreciation for music completely. Still great after all these years.

Gotta go with 'Master of Puppets' as their best (and also my favourite). But that record has a lot of memories from a special time for kid me. But, even so, every track is a banger. Even the long song format that they were experimenting with wasn't as irritating and interminable as they were to become on the next record. If there's one song that brings the record down in any small way, it's 'Sanatorium'. But even still it's great.

Wanna watch 'Cliff 'em All' Now.

    It's probably on YouTube…

    edit - it's on Youtube 😄

Sanitarium is probabaly one of the strongest songs on that album for me.

Last whole album I listen to was Whitesnake - Slip O' The Tongue

    Thin Lizzy - Acoustic Sessions

    1000008701.jpg

While its not a new album as such it's Eric Bell playing mostly acoustic versions of songs from their first three albums with Brian Downey on drums and stems of Phil Lynott's unreleased vocal from the archive.

I bit the bullet and got a copy on Friday, the owner of Spin Dizzy knocked a fiver off it for me, but what blew my head was a friend of mine dropping in out of the blue one of two hundred signed copies of Phil Lynott's 1974 hardback poetry book "Songs For While I'm Away". The poems are song lyrics from the first three albums. I'm still a little stunned and the album is far better than I anticipated.

There are two versions. The one I got was the shelf display which is probably why I got a fiver off. It's got a black and white cover but an extra song. It's sold out but you can get the colour version still without the bonus version of Slow Blues. They are my favourite band - I don't usually collect things but make an exception for Thin Lizzy.

Found my way to a couple of Belfast bands recently, hadn't heard of either of them

    https://escapeact.bandcamp.com/album/loosely-based-on-fiction

This is playing now, first of three albums they seem to have – kind of hard-edged indie pop. The House of Love kind of stuff.

This is the other one, band called Steer Clear. Very good cover art, music not quite as good but album has its moments.
