Automatic wipers on cruise control are diabolical. Really useless.

Drove to Banbridge this morning and I gave up on cruise control and just drove normally. Wipers coming on randomly and making the screen filthy. I would give them a quick squirt of water to clear it then 10 seconds later they would come on at their fastest setting for no reason.

44% battery used to get from Terenure to Banbridge. Mostly sat around 110 to 120.

    M3P 2020.

Same here. It’s good/encouraging to think the car is ‘evolving’, But some steps seem backward to me.

When I got it, it took a good while to get used to the heavy regen. Now I miss it.

The auto dim and wipers, and vision stuff are all backward steps to me - hoping it’ll be restored to previous iteration, or that we could opt out of particular aspects of an ‘update’.

Biggest thing in the update for me is the indicators. It’s so much better than before, changing lanes on two/three lane roads is greatly improved. Id normally use the three clicks when possible but this does improve on that.

I have found the opposite with the indicators but maybe I will have to just get used to the new settings.

When indicating your exit off a small roundabout for example, the indicator does not turn off and I have to intervene every time. Before it was indicate for 3 clicks and off itself... The auto cancel on lane change is handy alright but the 3 clicks and cancel was fine for me here too...

Got both Wheels repaired, immaculate job,

    €470 for the 2 tyres

€180 for the repair and respray of the 2 wheels (got rid of some kerb rash that was on the wheels previously)

    Seriously impressed with the work.

subjectively Ive felt like it hasn't been great for a few weeks now, but I put it down to cold weather, icy roads and maybe me driving faster as I get used to the handling of it. Hope it didnt change for good. In other news, got mobiletyres.ie to replace a flat tyre today, huge nail in it. Bit of a pain as the car has less than 1000km on it but what can you do. 360 for the short notice callout and replacement tyre. Happy with the job.

I haven’t used the 3 clicks in my short time since I was testing the new way but thought it was still there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,531 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

That's pretty good value alright. Where did you have it done?

I had a little autopilot incident in my first week where the back wheel clipped the kerb. Damage was very minor, but it being brand, brand new, I wanted it fixed. I was referred to an alloy repair place in Dublin 17 who wanted €130 for the repair. at a fraction of the price quoted, I ordered a metal file and ford grey paint recommended online for the M3 wheels and I did the repair myself. I lightly filed the damaged area smooth and carefully touched up the exposed metal with primer and paint. I couldn't even find the repair when I inspected the rim a couple of days later.

This is the damage before repair.

No point giving an after repair photo, because there is nothing to see.

Here is one of the wheels( looked worse in person) similar damage to the other wheel. There was also a kiss like yours on the rear wheel. The wife took the car to a tyre place after it happened and the guy there thought the front wheel atleast was done glad he was wrong 🤣

the guy that fixed it is John Collins based in Ballyneety Co. Limerick. Found him from a search on here.

Wow, tyres costing €235 each. Is that normal for a Model 3 or do you have upgraded wheels ?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,608 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    Not Model 3 specific.

Tyre brand and size dictate pricing. Same for VW, BMW, Audi Skoda etc….

I can pay €88 a tyre (Triangle) for the 20” wheels on my Performance Model 3 or I can pay €300 (Michelin).

    Loads of choice in between.

And to follow up on the above post, if I buy the same tyres for my BMW ICE car, they are actually more expensive at the lower end but a little cheaper at the top end with an abundance of pricing also in between

So to conclude, no, tyre prices are not specific to the car brand but rather set by the type you choose as a driver.

I went with the same tyres that were on it since the car is only 3months old

will investigate other types next time i am changing them But yes they are pricey but I never have a problem paying for tyres

When I replaced my rear tyres at 30,000km (SR+ on 18” aero’s), I went for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 but they were the non acoustic version which was a bit cheaper than the Tesla T0 version the car shipped with, and I noticed the noise in the cabin a lot more with these tyres.

then when I replaced all 4 at 58,000km I went for the PS4 T0 (stock) and the noise difference inside the cabin was huge!!!!

if they’re good enough for Tesla to ship the car with they’re good enough for me!!

That makes sense if you’re trying to make up a matching set of 4. I was just surprised at the price as I recently got 20” OE tyres for a Q7 and they were just under €200 each (Continental).

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,608 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    What tyres and where?

The last time I could match those prices was with Camskill before brexit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,904 ✭✭✭joe1303l

4 Continental 285/45 @ €198 each from Discount Tyres Crossmaglen delivered with Fastway in late September. Oponeo, Tyreleader and eBay.de are also usually worth a search for premium brand tyres in expensive sizes but you’ll be waiting a week to get them. Last time I used Camskill was about 5 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,401 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

Huge difference: Does that mean that the cabin noise from PS4 T0 (stock) was significantly more, or does it mean less, noisy than the default tyres? (I'm coming up on 25k Km now and will be looking at changing the tyres around to 30km mark, if needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,305 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

I’d be interested in that too. When I was looking the Db rating was the same for both tyres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,265 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

The road noise was a lot more when I put on 2 rear non acoustic tyres on….. and then when I reverted to 4x acoustic tyres, I noticed a big difference e in that the cabin felt a lot quieter….. Honestly m didn’t think the acoustics would make that much difference!!

Auto indicators on lane change are smooth as butter, I immediately removed Apple from sources as no interest, larger map area is welcome but I don't subscribe over Winter as not out and about as much, will look nicer for sure with subscription.

Unfortunately the car does not remember last audio source, grrrr

In other new, Steam coming to Tesla with Bluetooth controller functionality!!

I have a new Model 3 (standard) I took delivery of in early December.

I am now gone for 3 weeks and am suffering terrible battery drain. Left it on Friday evening at 66%, was down to 60% Saturday, 54% yesterday and 50% today. I check it once a day, Sentry is switched off (and I turned it on/off once in case there was a bug), I deleted all other driver accounts, cabin heat protection off, removed the app widget from my phone but it keeps dropping.... so what else could possibly be causing it?

I have no plug anywhere near the parking space (row of townhouses) so I will be stuck if the car is down to 0% when I get home, not to mention that it can't be very healthy for the battery. Any ideas?

There's a decent amount of used M3 gone onto the inventory page if anyone is in the market. They're priced competitively in comparison to 3rd party dealers but I'm not sure the difference is enough versus the refreshed model to make it worthwhile except for the blue long range with enhanced autopilot and white interior @ €47k.

Very strange, definitely something is draining the battery.

Over the summer I lost 3% when away for 10 days, recently lost 1% when away for 12 days in November. (Refrained from checking App too often second trip).

Looks like you have checked everything obvious, only thing I can think of would it be worth Tesla checking the car remotely via a service request?
