Had the M3 for a week and encountered "black screen" twice. Fixed both times by two button reset. Anyone know if it's a software glitch? Also, front passenger door doesn't always open from outside - any ideas?
Don't know about the black screen -- it hasn't ever happened on mine (2022 Model 3 RWD).
Regarding the door not opening - the doors are probably auto-locking when you drive off. No door will then open from the outside. You have to push the driver's door open button and then all doors can open from the outside. This is configurable.
Seemly a bug in the current software. SC aware and awaiting an update. There’s a new update in the wild currently so just have to wait for it to hit your car.
Try pressing the park button on right stalk first. If still doesn't open check your lock settings
New owners - note there is a setting to get OTA updates as soon as available.
You can adjust your software update preferences by tapping ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ > ‘Software Update Preference.’ You can select between ‘ADVANCED’ or ‘STANDARD.’ Select ‘ADVANCED’ to receive software updates as soon as they become available for your vehicle configuration and region. This feature is only available with software update 2019.16 or later.
Are any new owners finding the drive on the M3 LR very bumpy or is it just me?
Tyres are still inflated at 46psi, as they were at delivery. I've 2000km on it now, 1 month in. But the bumpy ride is my biggest (mayboe only) bug bear with the car, just can't believe how much it transfers the bumps and lumps from the road. I don't want to put my head back against the headrest sometimes as it just hops about, even on roads that are not too bad! Motorways are generally fine though.
I wanted to give it a while before deflating tyres slightly, and might do that this week to test it - but just wondering what other new owners thought?
46 seems high.
What is the recommended?
My 20” are 42 recommended.
42psi is what’s recommended.
Tesla’s arrive from China with notoriously high pressures in the tyres…. And need to be adjusted upon collection.
46psi is way too high as when they get hot they’ll go above 50!!
(mine are set to 42psi and I had them up at 49psi on the Autobahn in an heatwave last summer)
What car are you coming from?
The M3 suspension set up is definately on the firmer side which in turn gives it great handling characteristics. If your coming from any regular passenger car then this would be quite noticeable.
I see in the US at least Tesla have updated the configurator to have the grey colour as the new standard with a charge now for all other colours including white.
Yeah it seems to be 42 to 45psi is recommended. Why do they ship with such high pressures I wonder?
Googling shows me that Elon Musk recommends reducing by 10% to around 39psi for comfort. Anyone tried that?

If memory serves, mine was shipped with over 50psi. I believe it's to prevent flat spots from forming on the Tyre from it sitting still for long periods.
Last car was a Skoda Rapid, so yeah a big change. Its firm alright and I do appreciate the handling on the road.
When I did test drive of the Model 3, I definitely didnt notice the bumpy ride though. That could have been down to better roads, slower driving in and around Sandyford area and on the M50, or the tire pressure on the car I drove (dont know what it was set at). Test drives can be a bit overwhelming to take everything in about a car, there's a lot of finer details you don't pick up on until you have a couple of hundred kms on the clock
set the cold pressures to 42psi and see how it feels then...
Same happened last year.
Where are you getting the 42-45 is recommended?
The car tells you the recommendation of 42 when cold.
I mean 'do' appreciate the handling!😁
Is the tyre pressure monitor on the Tesla 3 screen accurate?
As accurate as any other car.
It’s the same Bluetooth TPMS as used on many others including bmw etc
I just use a plastic tub/bin/container type thing.... it cal slide around a bit, but it's great for holding dirty shoes/boots, and bottles when going to the bottle bank!!
Get double sided velcro and tape it to base of the box. The velcro will stop it sliding around.
I do this in the lower compartment too. Keep all my site gear down there in plastic boxes.
just on the lower boot…
I suddenly found it really damp down there over the weekend!!! Took out the UMC and opened its case and it was covered in moisture… same with the cardboard box for my compressor, it was fairly wet!!! Didn’t experience any crazy rain over the last week or so so it was a bit odd to find the lower boot so damp (on the right side)
That needs looking into alright. It should be dry down there.
Yeah, and it’s only very recent… as I’d regularly have the compressor out so would have noticed it sooner if it was there sooner…
there was no standing water, but it was damp!!! (And of course I rolled over 80k km a week or so ago so the warranty is up!!
May just be a bit of condensation, the nights have been cool enough lately. There is no air movement down there, worth airing now and again. I have seen condensation on spare tyres on previous cars.
Is there a trick to indicators to change direction like in regular car. Basically when I enter roundabout I indicate right and then need to indicate left but all that happens is that car stops indicating.
Illustration of maneuver:

I've found that either holding down the left indicator for a second or two or else pressing it down twice works (first press cancels right indicator, 2nd indicates left)
Drives me mad too! Regardless of the setting there's an issue with changing indicator straight from one side to the other in one press and I've tried the auto setting too.
The indicators are different to other cars, in that the stalk always returns to the central position. You do get used to them, but even after 17 months in my case, I still make the odd mistake.
At roundabouts I generally use the lane change quick flick, will clear after a few flashes.
There is also a relatively new update, where you can set indicators to clear when changing lanes.
