I had mine replaced last August - SR+ (21 refresh model) but from Fremont. Mobile engineer came out on site and replaced it in half a day. No creaks since!

But thats there the problem is. Theres a brief flash between the high beams coming on to manually switching it off.

On a 'dark' motorway with no cars directly in front, often the oncoming traffic lights on the other side are obscured by the concrete crash barrier so the car puts on the high beam. Any trucks coming towards me then cop a flash as the cabin is sitting above the crash barrier.

Its a PIA on the intercity motorways in the evenings when you constantly overtaking and re-engaging AP frequently.

It's the same with the ID3 matrix and I end up disengaging the auto function.

As you say, cars are ok as they are sitting lower but I will get flashed by trucks etc.

If there's a car coming towards you the auto beams are active but will stay dipped from my experience. Find them working well since Decembers update, had them off since 2020 before that.

I got mine done for free last year. Ranger came to the house and did it.

Something to do with the amount of grease in a joint being increased as the margins were set for California (freemont build) and needed to have more for the damper conditions in Europe.

Front control arm replacement fixed previous creaking problem for me, but creaking has returned in 2023. Diagnosed as rear links and knuckles. ~110,000km 2020 sr+

Thats what I would like - the ability to turn off when Im driving distances on dark motorways.

This reddit user put it quite well, along with solutions.

[Note it was posted 5 months ago and the algorithm (point 3 below) for detection has improved].

    Here are the issues.

    1. High beams turn on with every activation of autopilot.

    2. There is no delay to give you the chance to turn them off. If the car thinks they should be on, the millisecond AP engages they come on.

    3. The algorithm for the auto high beams is pathetically poor. They come on with cars in front of you, they come on with traffic coming the other way, they come on while traveling on well lit urban streets.

All of this combines to make it so much of a hassle and annoyance to use Autopilot at night that it’s essentially not useable anymore.

I get Tesla is covering their ass while they struggle to get the vision only AP system working but this is absolutely not the way to go about it.

I would like to see at least one of the following.

    1. A timer that gives you 3 seconds to turn the high beams off after engaging AP

    2. If the high beams have been disabled once during the drive they won’t turn back on till the car has done a Park Drive cycle

    3. A complete opt out with a warning that AP function will be degraded.

Sounds a bizarre reason as the US has some much damper climates not even that far from Fremont! (eg Washington and Oregon)

Yeah I had my upper control arms replaced as well as the ball joints re-sealed at 48,000km (2020 Fremont SR+) under warranty.

Done in Sandyford, but what pissed me off no end was my appointment was for 10:30am…. Which I was there for….. and at 1:30pm I went looking for an update.. 5 minutes later the mechanic came into see me in the little office and asked: “so what seems to be the problem?”……… 3 fcuking hours I was sat there and they hadn’t even looked at the car….. didn’t end up getting out of there till about 4:30pm… just when traffic was starting to get busy, and I’ve to drive all the way across the M50 to the M1……

So far past the 80,000km warranty level, I assume not. I do wonder in the future how much local good mechanic could do with things like suspension

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,057 ✭✭✭✭murphaph

The suspension of an EV is the same as any other car. Local mechanics will have less to do but they will still have work in replacing steering and suspension components and (rarely) brake stuff. I looked at a few Model 3 "how to fix your squeak" vids and the car actually looks nice to work on in that area. Stuff seems easily accessible for disassembly.

Went down to Manor Stone earlier to try out the supercharger. All fine but car only got to 74kw even with 1hr preconditioning. Was handy just watching Netflix while the car loaded up. Really could do with a heads up display in the window. Overall very nice to drive on the motorway.

What car/spec? And what SoC% did you arrive at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Was anyone parked beside you? The older chargers there share power

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,883 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

    Good point…

If you arrive at a V2 Supercharger (V2 has 2 cables, CCS for 3/Y, and Type 2 for S/X), and they are in Castlebellingham, Ballacolla & Birdhill.. and if the site is at 50% capacity or less, try not to plug into 1A if a car is already plugged into 1B, same with 2A/2B etc…. As each of these unit numbers share a cabinet and will split the load if 2 cars plug into both 1A & 1B.

if you stall share you are splitting 150kW between 2 chargers and will both only get 75kW (when car on 1A tapers down below 75kW as it fills up, the excess will then go to 1B assuming it can still take more than 75kW at that point)

As was said was there someone charging beside you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,883 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

At 60% you won’t get much more than 75kW anyway… so you did well.

arrive below 20% if you want to see headline charging figures.

Just a few negatives vs my old car the side mirrors are small and don't offer great visibility also the back window has awful visibility too. Everything else is better 😁

Anyone know how to increase the resolution on youtube?

Can confirm this is the method and it works no problem.

Is there a way to bypass the nudge/apply steering force notification when in autopilot?

I heard clicking the bottoms would work but it seems it doesn't anymore.

Not that I want to drive without hands on the wheel but at certain points it gets a bit annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,883 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

There are ‘cheat’ devices available, but they are wrong on so many levels….. and Tesla introduced software a while back to detect these cheat devices, so they shouldn’t work anymore…

I’m in the Lithuanian Tesla owners group as well as the Irish one, and they were mad for the cheat devices in Lithuania!!!! (Probably because a lot of the roads there are mostly straight as an arrow for km after km), but it was fairly shocking to see how common the chest devices were and how boastful the owners there were about using them…

the trick is to just find a position where you can rest your hand on the wheel while still applying the slightest bit of pressure so it knows your hand is on the wheel and you can remain comfortable, for me its my right hand on the 5 o clock position, and it works fine….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭gallagheri

Cheers. Definitely don't want any cheat devices. Just a "good way" to avoid moving my hand every minute. Will play around with the position.

You can drive hands free and just put pressure on it when promoted. Not that it’s legal though so don’t get caught 🤣

Is this a decent price? Mileage high enough for its age. Has enhanced autopilot but not sure if that is really worth it
