    Because its dangerous right now.

Another 2 winters of collisions would happen before the new Barnhill road is open.

That roundabout and improved street lighting on the approaches are needed immediately, irrespective of any other infrastructure

Seen it again last week, the problem I've noticed is the left turn from Ongar towards Clonee is not a full left turn (if you know what I mean), so cars go roaring towards Clonee Village and their left indicator is still on. Cars then waiting for a gap think "ah lovely, he's turning left, I'll just pull out now", then bang.

It's ironic that they wait for a solution (the new Barnhill road) that will reduce 90% of the traffic anyway on that junction that they finally implement a safety measure here. It's still better to have it regardless but the timing of these things always seems to be arseways. It should have been built when the Ongar ring roads were developed in the early 00s.

Probably should have, but being across the boundary in Co. Meath, the County Council there, at the time, envisaged little or intensification of development in Clonee and definitely not the building of large estates on the approach roads. So there is no chance they would have paid for it.

Sorry, trying to catch up here. The works due to start next week, what exactly are they doing? I was looking on various CC sites and can't even see the roadworks listed nevermind the plans

It's the building of a roundabout at the Lucan to Clonee T junction (R139)where you turn left for Clonee or right to Ongar. The project includes continous footpath and street lighting between Ongar and Clonee too. I'm guessing cycle lanes are also included but it's been a while since I saw the plans.

Is the work being done by Meath Co Co or is it considered part of Fingal's Barnhill Road project?

Meath CoCo aren't doing it in any case, its contractors for the home builders who are doing it to the spec approved in the planning conditions.

It's now about 2/3 of the time passed so has there been much progress.

Yes, they have cut the hedge back, drawn yellow lines on the road, and commenced the roundabout off the road.

A lot of the fluffy stuff has been done and I would think there will be some visible changes on the main road soon.

    May 2023 -

"A NEW public park and playground is planned for Clonee village. The proposals will see the construction of a public park including a playground with 12 pieces of play equipment"

March 2024 - Playground is completed, some cleanup around the edges needed, but it's all but done.

May 2024 - Issue arises between Irish Water and the Council, park and playground remains closed to the public.

July 2024 - Helen McEntee and a bunch of councillors are having their photo taken in the playground, to announce the opening (very soon).

August 2024 - Cllr Caroline O'Reilly "Clonee playground update: Not the news we've been expecting, unfortunately it will be another 8 weeks before the works are completed and the playground can open"

(so, 8 weeks, that should be mid-October?)

Current Status - There's not a prayer of it being opened this year. No way any councillor is going to want their picture taken in the pissing rain on a cold November/December morning in front of this ode to incompetence.

A tiny green area and a tiny 12 piece playground will have taken a year and a half to complete.

    So yeah, 12 weeks…not happening.

Update : Temporary traffic lights have now gone up at the Ongar/Clonee T Junction. Best guess is that they will now start works on the roundabout that will go in there at that junction. How long it takes is anyone's guess, and how long it takes to get to the temporary lights is also anyone's guess, as I was stuck on the Ongar side for over 30 minutes this evening.

Just took 30 mins to get from Clonee village to the roundabout in Ongar. Avoid in the mornings if you can.

Looking at the site during last week they seem to have progressed a bit.

A lot more ground works started/in progress.

They have cleared and compacted the area on the bend from Ongar to Lucan.

They have put in place many of the foot paths and curbing.

They have in place compacted stone on the area that is off the current road but will be part of the roundabout road surface.

For info the Google maps satellite view has recently updated and is very recent.

The visual shows the start of the works on the Roundabout and the new Link road in progress.

As for the roundabout they are in the process of working on the roundabout itself and therefore have traffic signals controlling the traffic in the area which is leading to massive delays through that junction and through Clonee Village towards the N3 Jn 4.

Surely the works at the roundabout can't take more than a week or two now, most of the groundwork seems to be done.

Judging by the track record of this shower, we'll be lucky to see it fully complete, lit and open by the end of March.

17 weeks into a 12 week job and still far from finished. Maybe it's the quieter time for traffic but it seems to me to be better even with what is done so far - a left and a right lane at the junction when coming from Lucan.

    When I wrote it can't take more than a week, I didn't anticipate a 2 month Christmas break. 😃

    I have noticed.

Maybe they meant Tuesday 4th of March.

    Taking the mick they are.

The whole exercise is a joke. If Meath CoCo were any good they'd be shuttering that site for any further housebuilding until that roundabout is fully completed, safety audited and opened.

23 weeks in to a 12 week project (which was pushed back 4 weeks from it's original start date) and no end in sight. It looks as if they were only willing to pay for 12 weeks work!

The other new road being constructed by Hansfield Educate Together will open before this at the rate they're going. Ironically, the traffic that use this dangerous T junction will plummet as most Lucan to Clonee traffic will presumably use the safer, newer road by Hansfield once that opens.

Typical of the council to time the improvement when the necessity of it becomes much diminished....

The road will still be a vital access route for all the families in Ongar who will use it to visit the Clonee playground…..in 2026

19 May 2023 — "Meath County Council will be offering 73 social housing apartments in Clonee at the end of the year

20 December 2024 — He said a dispute between Uisce Eireann and the developer has not been fully resolved leaving the 70 families without a home this Christmas.

17 May 2024 — A DEVELOPMENT of 66 social housing units for Meath County Council at Aylesbury, Clonee remains empty six months after the homes were allocated.

Jaysis, the apartments have been left empty so long they appear to be eroding. I wonder why the numbers keep changing on how many apartments there actually are.

Today they dug a hole, I guess that means works are back. Let's see if they finish before Christmas.
