Our biggest problem is how injury prone the team is. There is talent in the County but we haven't the deepest squad and a lot of key players struggling often with injuries.

mixed first half. Started badly but came into it. flukey auld goal has Dubs ahead. 2 x Bennett’s Dessie and Mark Fitz going well. A few other lads getting found out a bit. Kiely taken off injured but he was having a nightmare anyway

we are starting to run low on defenders

Owens is not fit to be on the inter County circuit anymore

Big change on here from a few years ago. I remember reading posts about yere depth, and one poster naming 45 odd players and musing about ye putting out a 3rd string team in the league that would be too strong for even some D1 teams.

Where did all those players go? I'm not trying to troll here but lose here its probably another year in 1B.

Well, that wasn't me. Poster you refer too was a bit deluded about the level of talent in Waterford, though I must say I don't remember anyone saying our 3rd team would be too good for most of the rest of division 1!!

I wouldn't be too worried about another year in 1B given the injuries. Its all about championship.

Getting to 1A isn't going to stay the decline that's coming when the best players in the County retire in a few years time.

Was about to post that there's too much farting about with the ball in the backs and midfield and put it into the forwards and then they do and Curran scores a goal. Dublin just about the better team with injury time to go.

Got out of jail but a wins a win, some bad patches of play and Jamie Barron, Kevin Mahony didn't have the best of games today

Think Offaly are promoted now with us needing Dublin or Loais to do us a favor against Carlow

    Carlow draw with antrim

Got out of jail yea but nice to see us actually take advantage of having the extra man in the end. Looked like they had the extra man with some of the balls played into forwards before that though.

Even before the Carlow antrim result we were assured of promotion after today's win as long as we beat westmeath and Offaly. No favours needed

that wasn’t pretty and agreed the ref had a shocker, we rode our luck a bit truth be told. But that was an important win and could define our season. Come from behind in the closing stages in the manner we did must be so encouraging for Queally

Mark Fitz got motm but in my view Stephen Bennett was the man that dug that win out for us. I don’t think he gets enough credit in general he’s a class act

Made very hard work of it but just about got over the line. Lacklustre performance today by so many players. Fortunately, Stephen Bennett / Curran saved the day ; two classy players.

Thought Ryan & Fives did very well. Mark Fitzgerald is not a tight marker but his reading of the game and distribution impressed again. As stated above, win the next 2 games and we're guaranteed promotion.

Six BG players starting today. Anyone know when was the last time six players from one club started for Waterford? Must be a good while now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 gunners200

the amount of times we made good positions from puckouts and the forwards first touch was so poor at times.

Watching the Limerick/Clare match, the standard was a few notches above what we saw in Walsh Park today.

Thought Pádraig Fitzgerald in particular was guilty of this in the first half. Not like him in fairness

Nothing to get carried away with after what was a scrappy but gutsy performance but… that was a great win!

Stephen Bennett yet again was outstanding throughout. What a leader. Dessie did some serious damage in the first half when the ball was played into space for him to run on to. Mark Fitz was excellent too. I thought the introduction of Darragh Lyons added some much needed energy and he’s better at getting stuck in than Sheehan is. Gavin Fives looked lively too and I’d be starting Curran over Mahony any day of the week.

    It feels good to win!

Think bottom 2 go down meaning if we're in 1B next year we could be facing the likes of Down and Kildare alongside Wexford and possibly Clare or Limerick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭Ian OB

We need 3 points from our next 2 games and then we're guaranteed to go up. 2 points could have us in a head to head with Dublin or Carlow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,447 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

3 points would likely leave us behind Offaly, assuming we beat Westmeath and draw with Offaly to get the 3.

Carlow could finish ahead of us then also if they won their last 3 v Dublin, Westmeath and laois.

At this point only 2 wins, 4 points guarantees us promotion

in 1998/00/01 there was 10/11 Mount sion on the panel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,667 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Hopefully Dublin will have the appetite to beat Carlow in Parnell Park

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭Ian OB

My apologies @KevIRL, hadn't spotted Carlow have a game in hand. This certainly changes the arithmetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,447 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

On the other hand, if Dublin do beat Carlow next weekend then 2 points could be enough for us to get through but would likely come down to scoring difference.

Let's just get the two wins tho. It's all in our own hands. Which I would have taken when walking away from Dr Cullen park a few weeks back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭carter10

Why do we persist with Stephen Bennett taking long range frees? Doesn't have the distance, first Dublin goal came from one of his frees dropping short. Does my head in.

i reckon waterford will win the last two games , as the munster championship comes closer ye will obviously improve like everyone else wheres the teams with the smaller panels like carlow and offaly will just stay on the same line ,

offaly will probably be promoted by the time they have to visit walsh park anyway

On the other hand I think Patrick Curran needs to be in the starting team from here on. Seems he’s been given a raw deal with a few years now but anytime he comes on he comes up with some brilliant scores at crucial stages and I don’t see anything wrong with his work rate either. Considering there’s other lads who have been persisted with for a couple years that clearly aren’t good enough It’s puzzling a lad of his quality can’t get in
