This is the kind of thing that makes me open to conspiracy theories.

Why would the Canadian Bar Association make such a demand unless they are run by controlled assets?

It’s **** chocolate lads. Yes, I’m all for expectance and being inclusive but as I said already it’s chocolate and the character aren’t real. There are times when people overthink things way too much.

The green M&M, previously seen in ads posing seductively and strutting her stuff in white go-go boots, will now sport a pair of sneakers. A description for the green candy on the M&M’s website says she enjoys “being a hypewoman for my friends.”

“I think we all win when we see more women in leading roles, so I’m happy to take on the part of supportive friend when they succeed,” the green M&M said on the promotional site.

Another character, the brown M&M, described her motto as, “Not bossy. Just the boss.”

That idiot on the Tiktok video should be more concerned he/she or whatever is about 5 stone overweight and a walking heart attack instead of bladdering about a transphopic baby.

Not sure if exactly "woke" but I was reading :

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-60010608

The article talks about only female staff there and mentions

"certain jobs at the British Antarctic Survey - which has a team on South Georgia - were not open to women "

Lately I have noticed that all BBC science articles seem to feature women exclusively, so I checked that site

    https://sgmuseum.gs/meet-the-team/

and 5/7 are women, is strange that so many women would want to work in such a remote place - most people working at the British Antarctic Survey are men - no surprise really, who the hell would want to be on an icy rock surrounded by penguins.

Again, are they getting "revenge" for that old law that didn't allow women work there ?

I fear discrimination is being used to fix an older discrimination - 2 wrongs don't make a right.

I would hate to be a young lad embarking on a Science career now ..

    Jesus "transgendered" himself.

    He was a "mother hen".

He washed feet which was the woman's role therefore he "becomes the woman"

Trans Rights Activism reinforces sex based stereotypes as much as religion ever did and here it is in all its glory, all in 33 seconds.

She kinda has a point. There's nothing worse than people who pretend to be happy up until the point that the go and hang themselves.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Chocolate manufacturers could prove how inclusive and respectful they are by treating people on cocoa plantations life full human beings. That's a PR move that I could get behind.

This is a weird thing to lump in with the usual reactionary outrage here. Surely relentless positive thinking is what you guys* should be up in arms about, which is exactly what this person is talking about?

*and of course progressive people too

No one is safe if even Dr.Phil is getting it🤣

Or in a workplace environment where management place an emphasis on 'being positive' (which is really just a way of shutting down dissent by labelling it as 'negative').

Jamie Oliver employs 'cultural appropriation specialists' to avoid recipe controversies

Oliver told the Sunday Times: "Your immediate reaction is to be defensive and say, 'For the love of God, really?' And then you go, 'Well, we don't want to offend anyone'."

Oliver has faced criticism in the past for some of his recipes and products, and the 46-year-old acknowledged that his 2012 Empire Roast Chicken recipe would not be acceptable nowadays.

In 2014, Oliver sparked backlash from West Africans for his take on Jollof rice, with thousands of outraged comments disputing his interpretation of the dish. In 2018, Labour MP Dawn Butler accused Oliver of cultural appropriation for his punchy jerk rice,...

the positivity thing is 100 per cent correct.

Humans weren´t meant to be uber positive at all times. There needed to be fearful humans when crossing the plain so we didn´t just step down and get chowed down by a sabre tooth. we evolved to have all sorts of emotions, and for good reason.

MY saying is if you keep your head up all the time, you will inevitably step in **** some day.

My issue with that it's the idea of being happy is toxic to unhappy people, just as being slim is toxic to fat people and being good looking is toxic to ugly people. No, if you're happy there's nothing toxic about it, and if you're sad don't expect happy people to hide their happiness.

As for corporate environment, of course they only expect positive thinking. No one there cares about your negative feelings, what they need is a positive environment where happy workers are productive workers.

also, there is no reactionary outrage here, and who's "you guys"?

I absolutely don't get the whole 'cultural appropriation' thing. Why is it a thing? How is it harming anyone if a red head from Kerry wears a kimono or someone from Leitrim wearing cornrows in their hair? And as for Jamie Oliver getting in trouble for cultural appropriation of food, are we not allowed to eat/use ingredients from other parts of the world now?

    What a load of bullsh1t.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,311 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

It also completely flies in the face of how culture works: People see someone doing something that they like and start doing it themselves. Be it a style of hat or a way of cutting turf, we adopt things and they change over time. It's good to have an element of respect for other people's traditions or whatever, but getting upset because someone doesn't cook chicken the way you've decided chicken should be cooked is stupid. You can say it's not the way it's done where you come from, but you don't get to dictate how someone else does things.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,295 ✭✭✭AllForIt

I thought the whole point of multiculturalism is our cultures blend in with one another, to a degree at least. What else does integration mean if not that.

Then when it does integrate, you get people complaining about cultural appropriation.

    Can't win really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,048 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

'You guys' are the people who continuously scan the BBC/Guardian websites and Twitter for outrage and then report back here on order to generate some counter-outrage, and that's not what 'toxic' means in this context.

There's a difference between positivity, false positivity and toxic positivity; the last one being the kind that isn't harmless but actually generates negativity and pisses everyone off.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,048 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

The problem isn't the appropriation, it's the idiots who scream appropriation the moment you try to integrate it.

Also, people should at lesst be respectful of the culture they try to integrate - that doesn't always happen

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,816 ✭✭✭Cordell

Why wound anyone be pissed of by another's positivity?

"We guys" are not outraged, we are just having a bit of fun at the expense of those perpetually outraged.

Hey - I'm not saying I agree with the "you guys" I'm just telling you who it's referring to.

Regarding the positivity, that's my point: positivity is not the same as toxic positivity. Positivity is fine. Toxic positivity is the kind of **** the gets locked up until someone becomes Arthur Fleck or William Foster.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.
