Keeping in timing with prior years opening this up to get the excitement building.
Just over 4 weeks until October when we get some traditional jumping ground. Imagine many are in from their summer breaks and beginning to wind up their work. Ballyadam is probably the one I'm looking forward to most but need to sharpen my pencil and dust down the notes :)

Most importantly, lets hope we get a clean run of things and get some owners and spectators back to the track for the full season without any drama.

Cannot wait for all the novices coming!

Are you planning to run the competition again? Or did last year prove just too much effort?

Al Boum Photo to win a third gold cup? Wouldn’t put it past him the way his preps have been working the oracle the last two seasons.

Not sure the novice chasers of last season are superb although Champ does have some engine but could fail the jumping test in the GC.

This thread makes me so happy
    SO HAPPY
Ah lads, you got to love the jumps!!!!

Ballyadam, Ferny Hollow, Gypsy Island the 3 i am most excited about, although the thought of Abacadabras in the CH is intriguing me too, and of course, Goshen!!

Gordon getting Percy is interesting, can only be with a GC in mind
Minella Indo is very interesting in the GC also, and who know's what way TOTG will go, altho I did read somewhere that his injury still hasn't cleared up and is not progressing as they would have liked

More chance of Ballyadam in the Albert B than the Supreme. Genuinely cant see him in the Supreme, they've Ferny Hollow too.

Abacadrbras Champion Hurdle and Allaho Ryanair are the two I've been chipping away at

Topofthegame for the GC and Saint Roi champion hurdle!
I could be very wrong and look like a fool but something tells me Gosheen might not turn out to be the super horse many predict. :pac:

Think Benie might go a different route possibly Stayers, and barring injury Honeysuckle looks bombproof for the Mares.

Princess Zoe for the Mares Novice @ 20/1

Backed her for this race a few weeks ago for this race. Trainer has already said her owner wants to go down this route, so we know its the plan and also he might aim her at the Cadran, a Group One, so he knows she's a good un. I see she's as short as 10/1 in places, but 16s still available.

Reason i'm posting is that she goes again tonight in Galway. If she wins this well, against an Oaks second in Ennistymon, i think she will shorten massively. Has been backed off the boards so she appears to well fancied to go in again. And to be perfectly honest, even if she doesnt win tonight i still think she'll win at Cheltenham :)

If she placed in the Cadran she will never see a hurdle. Anyone on her at fancy prices for the mares novice should be hoping she gets beat tonight.

He said Cadran or another big handicap. My point was the esteem in which the trainer rates her. No more, no less. Mon the Zoe.

Really fancy shewearsitwell for this myself and have been backing it for weeks, Mullins very keen on her and couldn't have done more in her bumper win.

She's improving at a rate of knots. The Betopin dudes did some glorious aftertiming on their podcast about them backing her at 66's so hopefully she gets there. Would be a long season though thats my only concern. She's got a serious engine and guts. Just what you want in a racehorse

Travels beautifully. And quickens. She ticks a lot of boxes for me. Bust schedule recently but very lightly raced, and has won some races rather easily. This mare is making me very aroused.

    Yes. I've had pints!

They should supplement her for the Matron, she keeps on winning races.

Edit - although a mile could be too short

That race does dilute the Arkle somewhat. And the Arkle itself has a track record of being favourable to 3milers in the past such as Kicking King, Captain Chris, My way de Solzen, Cue Card and Sizing John either winning or second, so don't rule him out for that yet, if its an open renewal. At least it doesn't destroy horses like the RSA does.

Can't agree with that to be honest, the evidence is pretty irrefutable. Bobs worth and Lord Widemere were held up as examples to refute the claim but outside of their two GC wins neither won a single other race of note.

The comment was that the race "destroys horses", it's incredibly lazy analysis that gets thrown around come every spring. Even the soft Might Bite won a King George after his RSA win, Don Poli won a Lexus after, Albertas Run went on to be a festival legend whilst a certain Denman didn't turn out too bad either.

To say the race destroys horses is bollox to put it lightly and bringing up two subsequent GC winners (Bob's Worth won a Hennesy off top weight, and a Lexus chase along with his GC) only strengthens that view.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭Rabbit Redux

At least it doesn't destroy horses like the RSA does.

Winning a Sun Alliance Chase didn't do Denman too much harm, and Albertas Run dropped back in trip after winning it to land two Ryanairs and a Melling Chase. Might Bite won a King George the season after winning his RSA. That theory doesn't really stack up.

Hands up had forgotten about his Lexus win, but beating Tidal Bay in a handicap receiving 6lbs and beating First Lieutenant by a little over a length is hardly noteworthy form

    Denman won an RSA also.

Good horses have no issue with it. There are also hard luck stories like Weopons Amnesty or TopoftheGAme.

There is a squeak of an argument around it affecting a horse constitution , but Don Poli, Might Bite and dare I say it Pres Percy are hardly unsuccessful horsies either.

Bostons Angel never got the mud he loved after and the same could be said O'Faoillains Boy albeit he preferred good ground.

I don't think it destroys good horses, sure Al Boum Photo was bet and then fell 2 out when he ran.

The original comment wasn't mine and I do agree that a blanket statement that "it destroys horses" is over the top, there is little doubt that it has left a mark on plenty of horses, it is after all a 3m championship race for novices where they have to travel faster than they ever have, I think its fair to say its not for everyone. And of course Denman was a freak!!

The original quote was mine, and on reflection, I maybe did oversell it with the word 'destroy'. But the race always worries me when I see them legless at the end of it. I really hope Champ and Allaho can serve it up to them this season but I'm pessimistic. If I was Envois owner, the season would revolve around the Arkle then King George the following Christmas to test the 3miles.

A lot of talk about this Micro Manage from Closutton
Jon Snow could be interesting and of course you have the Andy Dufresnes etc altho he starting to remind me of Blue Sari
Malone Rd hugely interesting, and my personal fav to watch this year is Gypsy Island, must see about getting a "win any race" price for Cheltenham
I think she could be very very special

Probably win the Irish National in 4-5 years.

We will never know when to be getting on and you can be sure it will be losing races also.

You will make more money backing the Queen of England's string in fairness, they are always trying anyways.

There is nothing to see here, please move on.

Former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John is entered for a 2 and a half mile conditions chase, on the opening day of the Listowel harvest racing festival, commencing on this Sunday. Hope he runs, but the warm and dry weather recently might scupper his welcome reappearance to the racecourse.
