Interesting to see the early sprint, Sagan is in Green but only holding it for Kristoff so will Kristoff go for the sprint to hold the green for a few days?

I think Kristoff will loose the Yellow tomorrow but not sure if there'll be fireworks tomorrow or not, one for the punchers perhaps - Alaphilippe or possibly Dan?

    Non starter list so far:

    Lotto Soudal
    - Degenkolb
    - Gilbert

    Bahrain McLaren
    - Rafael Valls

I'm sure it will grow before the start but hopefully not many others.

Live TV coverage on now. At the moment Carlton & Rob Hatch are commentating... don't think I've ever heard them on both at the same time!

I reckon it's one of those randomer winner days. An early group breakaway that nobody gets worried about but gets out of hand.

David Gaudu (FDJ) is already out the back and in a world of pain :(

EDIT: he's back in the peloton for the last while and seems to be okay

Why does Sagan not drop back, with no more points on offer to the finish is it worth staying with the break? Maybe he'll drop off as the climb moves up.

"it's a town unified by Garibaldi in 1861, who, just for the record wasn't named Gary and had a full head of hair.... He also shares his name with a very fine rasin based biscuit"

    Alan Partridge or Carlton Kirby?

Feels like high summer watching a stage like this today. Great to have the Tour back. Yesterday was ridiculous, whole stage should have been neutralised. Think all the action will be on the Col d'Etze near the end.

Kirby really can't help himself. Crazy that Rob Hatch is only getting crumbs here.

I assume Hatch & Kelly will be back later on.

Last year they took it in turns each day. One of them would do the start and finish, and the other would do the big chunk in the middle. And they'd swap the next day. That's how I remember it anyway!

Hatch and Kelly are defo the A team. Kirby and Smith are the warm ups. Yesterday they had technical issues

Interesting stage. Almost like a classic course

EDIT: I know there’s 2 Cat 1 climbs but the finish is a long way from them

Yes, will get even better with Col d'Eze and the medieval hilltop town of Eze

No need to rub it in! That's the etape route today :)

Dan right at the very back of the peloton with the rest of his team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 550 ✭✭✭lissard

First ascent of Col d'Eze fairly shredded the peloton. Looks like a GC finish.

I was just about to say similar, adds nothing of value to the coverage.

Big hands waving and pointing and telling us nothing.
Was more fun when he was on a motorbike annoying the peleton.

    Come on Alaphilippe :)

He’s an easy fella to root for. Great attacking win

Ha ha have him as my road captain in the virtual tdf.

    Nice ( and Nice)
    Good finish by Hirschi too.

Alaphillipe's watch worth North of €100k. Must be nice to be sponsored.

Great attacking cycling and a fantastic finish. I was sure they'd blown it but chapeau to JA

Daniel Martinez ended up losing a whopping 3'38"

Nico got the 5 points for Col d'Eze as a memento for his struggles today :)

Dan Martin ended up in the pack 18 minutes down. I think this is a good think for his stage chances. Too often, IMO, he hung around the top 10-15 on GC and wasn’t allowed away at all

I'd say Dan is close enough to early retirement. I'm guessing he's not recovered from the injury.

As for Alaphillipe, I remember a GT where Dan was fancied to do well and JA didn't help him for a yard of the 20 stages. Popped up for a snakey stage win alright.

NIco was going very well today ...best in awhile

He couldn't chase Allaphillipe cos Hirschi up the road.Mind you he woudn't have beaten him but still he was going well

Dan Martin does not look good tbh

Yeah Dan is still feeling the fall at the dauphine I think. I was going to say Herman might be the man for Israel but he lost a tonne of time too.

I saw an interview with Dan Martin and he said this team aren't going for a GC place with him and more individual stages

The watch is a Richard Mille, who sponsor Bahrain-McLaren. So nots ure if they also sponsor riders, or its a personal JA thing.
    It looks hideous as well.
