I know Valimaki won't win, but he's in the clubhouse in a tie for 2nd, having shot a record equalling course record 62. And he shot a 64 yesterday, so he has the record for the lowest closing 36 hole total in the event's 77 year history.

And Valimaki only just made the cut for the weekend right on the limit at -3. He's going to finish 4th guaranteed at this point.

I can't believe M.W. Lee has done that. Leading by 3 shots, he's put his tee shot on the par 5 16 straight into the water. It leaked so far right, he had no chance. This could make things interesting.

And Rory missed a par putt from about 2 foot on 18 to finish with a 64. An otherwise very good round bookended by 2 bogeys. It puts him in a 3 way tie for 5th, instead of being outright 5th.

Lee's lead is down to one(-20) after bogeying 16. Woodland has a tap-in birdie on 18 to finish on -19. Scheffler is on the same score with one hole left.

M.W. Lee gets the job done, eventually. He was scrambling towards the end. He gets his first PGA event win under the belt. It's nice for his Irish caddy too, Brian "Bo" Martin.

One of best ball strikers on tour I'm only surprised it's taken him so long to win in States.

MWL has a major in him.

He's just got those big mistakes in him. It's ruined his chances quite a few times.

He's had a lot of top 20 finishes which should have been a lot higher finishes.

I agree with you though, he's got all the talent in the world and he's not afraid to win. If he puts it all together in a major he'll win.

Bo on the bag may help on that front. He talked him down well in terms of taking the drop from under the bushes.

Might save a silly blow-up in a bigger event

Interesting final round at the Texas Open, wind absolutely howling so scoring is very tough. Shame Harman is top of the board so we're subjected to his ridiculous slow play. Anyone but him for the win please

Watching Harman was so bad I switched to the Liv golf event in Miami for the weekend.

    Much better course and field.

Watching Bryson take on the Blue Monster was v entertaining.

Spieth another sponsors invite into next week signature event

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,728 ✭✭✭blue note

It's mad the way the sponsors pick the biggest draws consistently.

Speith is lucky he won all those majors.

There'll be a big push to get him the career grand slam

Spieth I'd one of the most popular golfers in the sport. The likes of him and Ricky Fowler will get as many invites as possible.

More viewers bigger advertisement income and more sponsors. It's that simple.

Back in.the day if Tiger missed a cut, which rarely happened, it was a disaster for the TV networks. Their weekend income was less than half what it would be if he made the weekend.

Wouldn't it be gas after a decade of Rory "will he won't he" and him finally getting there that 5 weeks later Spieth just completes it with minimal fanfare

Pity for him it’s reduced points week but a good result will just be as good going into next week

Jinxed it...+3 for his round after 6...dropped way down

Loving the variation in par 3’s, 206 yards down to 132yards. Goes to show they don’t need to be long to be tough.

Is the short par 3 the 14th not one of the easiest holes on the golf course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭Appletart Upsetter

Birdie on the first for Lowry, outright lead. Let's go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,270 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That par save by Straka on 4 could prove crucial at the end of the round today. It keeps him just 1 shot behind Shane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,270 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Lowry has a tap-in birdie on the par 5 5th. That was an excellent chip from a very awkward stance, having just avoided the bunker with his 2nd shot. Taps it in to momentarily go 2 clear, but Straka has an eagle putt to come.

Jeez, Straka makes the putt. It was only the 2nd eagle of the day on the 5th.

    So they're both on -16.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,270 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Straka making a mess on 6(par 4) having had a perfect tee shot. He has a tough putt just to make bogey. Shane has made par.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭Appletart Upsetter

Lowry 2 behind now, needs to start making some birdies or he'll drop further down the leaderboard.

Straka is sinking almost all of his putts regardless of distance. He's been fortunate on a few putts in my opinion.
