They can go and ****e if they expect the IRFU to underwrite it in honour of the union.

Let's be honest if the series is played in Dublin, Edinburgh, Cardiff and London and crowds are allowed it will be a fantastic series...very different obviously, but tickets will be like gold dust.

Whether we are allowed crowds by June and July is another matter, but time will tell.

Absolutely no chance of crowds in Ireland by July... wouldn't even be hopeful of anything by the start of next season's Pro14

With most of the population not being either first dose or second vaccination by then - no chance in Ireland.

Sigh, we have a higher proportion of our population fully vaccinated compared to the UK, over 3% here compared to less than 2 in the UK.

Valid point, but people already complain about the lack of atmosphere in Lansdowne without filling it with 70/80/90 year olds.

Well we'll see. You're possibly, in fact probably, right about July, but if crowds aren't allowed by September/October then I don't know, everyone will have beem vaccinated by then. If they don't allow crowds then, then they will never be allowed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,817 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Theres absolutely no guarantee in the World that vaccinations will be completed by September/October time. Especially in that 15 to 50 age range who make up the bulk of match goers.

If I were putting money on it now, I'd say a crowd of 10,000 at Lansdowne Road for a Lions test in July, maybe health care workers or something and certainly only people who've had both doses of vax.

And a crowd of 20,000 for the late July All-Irelands at Croke Park under the same stipulations.

If that doesn't work for the Lions, then it'll be no Test in Dublin and a second in Twickenham I would imagine.

Fact is in both countries not enough people will be vaccinated to allow crowds.

Is a pipe dream, organisers are desperate to meet their commercial obligations and they want the tax payer to cover it, they announced the official pension provider to the tour just yesterday lol

Keith Wood was on Off The Ball last night and made a good point that ideally the tour would just be put back 4 years. We're already putting an awful lot into the season with all the uncertainty that Covid brings.

If that could happen commercially I think that might be the best option.

When you hear about there being an official pension provider to the tour just reminds me that I'm not really pushed if it goes ahead at all at any time.

Sure we lost the Euros games because the government dont have the balls to set dates. Ireland as a consolation might get to host the lions squad for a training week or something

TBH for myself a Northern Hempisphere Lions tour is prob the only chance id ever get to see the Lions in action but you know travel bans and all that

Perhaps public health is a tad more important than sport. Just a thought.

And an over commercialised one at that these days.

These deals were done pre or during covid if they are only being activated now...there's nothing they won't put the Lions name on.

I agree it's a pipe dream alright, no matter where they plan to host it. It's the factually inaccurate only in Ireland crap that's pretty tiresome, between how far behind on vaccinations from the rest of the world we apparently are, or how the government are either spineless or lacking a department of soothsayers as they won't give a hard date when everything suddenly returns to normal overnight.

Is this a joke....to unite the UK after Brexit?

Head office for the Lions is on Simmonscourt Road in Dublin (inside the EU).

Seen this on Twitter, could be BS but no games in Ireland if correct.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Irish government wasn't going to commit to capacity crowds or close to capacity. Considering they're only discussing reopening retail and stuff in May.

It's a shame, and even Ravenhill looks like it'd be too small at 18k given the list of stadiums they have there.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if you and I have the exact same input on this decision as the Irish government...this is a UK government & British Lions gig now

Oh most definitely, but I can imagine there was a token offer to the IRFU where they were told if they can get 100% guarantees from the Irish government for a full capacity crowd in the Aviva they can have a game and then they chuckled and said anyways back to the real plan.

Yeah ****ing joke and we also lost the Dublin games for Euro 2021, then the news today that NPHET want to examine the next 20 weeks (bringing us up to July)

I'd love to travel over to the UK for one of the games (if its hosted there) but obviously we can't travel over

    Don't think so but hopefully.

With the current farce by leaders feck knows what will happen

It's nothing to do with the government, all to do with a poxy virus.

The chances of Irish people being able to travel before the end of July should be exactly zero

looks to be scenario A and B depending on the Irish situation, both Aviva games would be moved to London ( Wembley and Olympic Stadium) if required, the media reports for the last few weeks have suggested 4 tests will take place.

There won't be crowds so it's irrelevant if there are games in Ireland. Or at least, I don't particularly care!
