Suriname - Zaph

An ace at last! I was in Canada when the Seoul Olympics were on in 1988. Canadian tv coverage was awful, basically I saw little other than swimming, diving and more volleyball than I ever want to see again. But two things stick in my mind - 1) Ben Johnson in the 100 metres. It was great craic when he won, and a very odd experience as an outsider watching the locals when he was disqualified; and 2) a swimmer named Anthony Nesty winning Suriname's first ever gold medal. They made such a huge deal of it that I'll never forget him. I had no idea if they'd won any more since, but he seemed like a good bet.
