A record day, just shy of 20kwh

    Screenshot_20220210_182438.jpg

Would have been 25kw only for a black hole (weather and as yet unsolved system error) at lunchtime.

    1.5 "exported" to grid 😁🤫

poor forecast for next 2 days so not expecting much

You need to change that car ASAP. You'll be driving for free for 10 months of the year in an EV with a system like that 😂

Are you living in an urban or rural area? If rural the local transformer up the pole might be the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,116 ✭✭✭paulbok

    Yeah, rural.

I googled the error and its to do with the voltage I export out at and the transformer. Was sending 2.5kw back at the time, haven't got to check anything else (v etc) yet from the inverter.

ESB are in the process of upgrading the transformer anyway as it not up to modern demand.

Will need to look more into it as it's like to keep happening when exporting in the summer.

Best day so far by a mile! (6.2kw panels galway). Ended up exporting 7kwh 🙃

Best day here too since install almost broke the 10kwh barrier with 9.8kwh generated on a 4.2kWp install. clouds and showers ruined the afternoon.

Broke into double digits for the first time this year at bang on 10kWh, sun still a few weeks away from hitting my NE string

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,275 ✭✭✭irishchris

18.5 here in Galway but sadly end of sun for few days according to latest met forecast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭THE ALM

Impressive figures from the guys in Cork.

Was running well until the cliff edge here at about 2pm otherwise I would have been on for the 30kWh mark, unfortunately most of it exported as car gone for the week.

    Hi

I've a new install and this thread has been fantastic for understanding how the system should behave. I've a 7.2Kw (16 x 455w panels) on a ground mount. I'm in athlone so I suspected that I'd have a profile somewhat similar to THE ALM and yesterday I had the following.

    Screenshot_20220211-101727_SolisCloud.jpg

Which almost matches so its good to see that my system is working well. Another thing I like to see is the affect of my house shade on the panels as the sun clears the house I can see the clear impact of the shade which is nice to see after I've read so much about it here.

In summary thanks for taking the time to publish your stats it really helps those of us starting out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭THE ALM

@Midlakelands I certainly wouldn't be far from Athlone as the crow flies so would have similar outputs I would imagine. That is a nice setup.

Nice is right, your panels are quite "flat" so poor Winter generation but great Summer generation. I'm assuming the mount is not adjustable in that remark, if it is then raise it more "upright".

Re Shading, you have easy access to the back of those panels so can fit optimisers later no hassle (if required).

I'm Athlone too but poor aspect and shading so I've had to compensate with a lot of over-panelling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭Midlakelands

Yep they are fixed angle I never looked into the cost/benefit of tilting ones as I thought it would be cheaper just to put a few more on. Regarding the strings the far 8 are together in one string as they are first to get the sun in the morning. During winter and early spring they will be the first to drop into the shadow of the neighbours trees (currently about 430pm) however the sun will more or less clear them in another month.

right now i got 13.5Kw for the day but the weather is rapidly going downhill so I will be surprised if I get much more

Not the highs of yesterday but an ok day all in all

13.5 for today, more than I expected with the forecast.

currently on 6.7kwh net from the grid for the day and 2.5 left in the battery

I'm loving the ramp up in generation this last few weeks... exceeding all my expectations already. Generated 7.2kWh yesterday! Though I have 5.78kWp total installed, 2.04kWp of it is on west north west facing aspect, so is still doing very little generating probably until May/June. The 1st string of 11 panels split over 2 aspects (all optimised) is really the workhorse.

I'm here too to make full use of it, so haven't had a dishwasher or washing machine load on the night rate in what must be 3-4 weeks now!

My battery (5kWh) was set to charge at midnight at 12 amps, and it'd finish charging at 7am, so day before yesterday I reduced the rate down to 8 amps, and at 7:59am it stopped charging at 84%, dropped it again yesterday to 6 amps, and it stopped at about 65%

Just checked the meter this morning and in the last 6 days I've used 8kWh on day rate. (116kWh on nights, of which ~70kWh went into the car)

Solar PV for the absolute win!!

I have Home Assistant set up and I use the Ginlong integration to scrape my PV data off the website, I then have a ShellyEM logging my ESB incomer and the heat pump. These are stored in InfluxDB and I generate the graphs using Grafana all within Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi4b.

I got another ShellyEM (actually 2 more as Shelly sent me an extra one by mistake.. 😎)to log my PV as the frequency of the readings using the Ginlong (Solis) website is only 5 mins and it was giving trouble over the last week or so. I have not yet set this up as this requires me tripping off the power to the whole house as the ShellyEM is installed in the main Consumer unit.

I'm impressed with the Shelly and how it integrated with HA was seamless to get set up. I have not delved too much into Grafana yet but it looks powerful and its easy to generate all different types of graphs and do different time ranges.

Here is today again giving it all back to the grid unfortunately but I am lining myself up to get and EV as soon as possible.

Here is my basic HA dashboard which has a few other house stats and very simple charts and gauges

Great generation today. Almost hitting peaks of 5kW on the panels.

Never thought generation would be this good in February.

Never has Sth Dublin promised so much and delivered so little as today.

Not bad in W Dublin, love it when the estimates are worse than reality 😁

Home assistant showing just over 18kWr for today (north Wexford). Will be over 19 when done I'd say.

26.4 here in galway. Thankfully forecast was spot on here as took chance last night of not charging my 10kwh battery but it rose from the 20% I have it set to right up to 100% by 12. Cracking day but sadly the last one for the next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,666 ✭✭✭ECO_Mental

Today was a good day (26kWh) but not perfect I like comparing to an earlier days in the year to see how the days are getting longer. Below is today vs the 5th Jan 22 where we had cloudless sky's. Clouds moved in today at 16:30 and killed it.

Considering I had storm force winds, torrential rain, sleet and snow today it didn't turn out too bad...😎

Oh also just ordered an ID4 today to soak up all the excess kWh, but unfortunately I think I will miss the best of the summer until it arrives in about 6 months time...😪

Congrats on the new EV ECO! You won't be short of any juice for it.

A weird day weather wise. Cold, sunny, cloudy rainy, windy, hail and snow! Finished out the day on 9.9kWh, so I'm happy with that.

@Midlakelands Hi, I have a roof mounted 2 KW system and I am looking to install more panels on a ground mounted system similar to your own. Do you have any details on the construction? Tree system or DIY. Thanks in advance

    Regards

    Liam
