Ok..so having finished that thread on yer one from limerick i'm currently 10 pages into a thread on some double barrel name family where yer man is grooming young ones online and his missus has an eating disorder..I think I actually came a cross a couple of their videos years ago..Anyway..I'm considering signing up to tattle.com..I know we'd be half slagging here sometimes and can come across as rather crass the odd time..but women are vicious..

Ah now. Hang on a minute CQD. Some women are vicious, and some men are vicious, but most are not. Sure are you not just after saying wherever you are reading there is a fella grooming young ones, so it is both sides. Stay away from that shyte, it will only infect your brain.

Ah well, yeah.. But like, I'm reading it as a kind of an observer of a social phenomenon..the same way I used hang around the MMA forum and troll the Mcgregor heads..And my brain has been pretty much ruined over a variety of factors for years, so it probably won't have that much of a noticeable adverse effect..And I'll probably be bored of it at some stage tomorrow..

Even Prime Time Miriam is tweeting now about her staycation in Dingle. I wonder if she got it as a freebie??
I know she has a lot of kids to keep control of but I doubt she spends her vacation in Kerry in regular year, which is fair enough, she works hard and is talented unlike these bloggers.

I know people and they used work in a hotel and when ever she landed on with her children. They'd have to join loads of tables together and they'd take up loads of space but she was meant to have been alright!

I’m a pretty big deal around here - the big swinging dick, the main man, the big cheese at the cracker factory - and was wondering if there was some way of monetising my content?

Maybe one of those Patreon accounts or something? I don’t need the money to be honest, but would be nice to make enough for a few bets on the horses.

If you got a few quid every time the ''quotation guy'' thanked your post you could make a pretty penny.

Can someone explain to me, a self confessed thicko, how exactly do these influencers organise their tax payments?? So they are continually getting free products delivered, in addition to whatever contracted pay from the company they collab with. And then they can claim things like their utility bills, food, travel as tax?? I know same applies to all contractors but they don’t get the free gifts that these influencers get.

“You may receive a gift up to the value of €3,000 from any person in any calendar year without having to pay Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT). This means that you may take a gift from several people in the same calendar year and the first €3,000 from each disponer is exempt from CAT.”

    Source: https://www.revenue.ie/en/gains-gifts-and-inheritance/cat-exemptions/small-gift-exemption/index.aspx

So once they don’t receive more that €3000 worth of freebies from each individual supplier in any given year, there’s no tax liability. Anything after that is taxed at 33% of the value.

That’s my layman’s reading of the situation, I’m open to correction.

Someone might pay to see you “taking a deuce”, dude.

They are one and the same.

No, they display quite different characteristics.

PPL is a coke head who is married but can only get it up for escorts.

JF is an occasional cocaine user but has a thing for MILFs and his ex-sister in law.

ES is the hanger on, has never touched drugs, lost his virginity on his wedding night and hasn’t strayed since. Easily lead but harmless on his own.

I'm still a bit incredulous about the whole blogging thing and the normalising of what are blatantly narcissistic, embarrassing behaviours.

Maybe it's coz I grew up in the Kodak era where taking a snap of your own face was a guaranteed way of drawing slagging and utter mortification from several angles, including the pharmacist who'd end up developing your photos a few weeks later. Like are ya well pal? Fancy the look of yourself, do ya??

To have gone from normalising that to now it being not only socially acceptable but potentially a viable career to document yourself taking a shyte, going to the gym, shopping and other exciting events from dusk to dawn is just...bizarre. I still don't get it. There's no mystery anymore. No boundaries. Here's a shot of me pouring cereal into a bowl hashtag kelloggs cha-ching $10k for my troubles please and thank you. Here's me suffering from depression #sadface, oh look it's five minutes later and I'm wearing my fave lipstick from some random pharmacy #meagherspharmacy #discountcode. Oh and now I'm channelling the woke side of my personal brand by talking about #blacklivesmatter or is it #beirutlivesmatter

    Bizarre.

    LOL. Great post.

Love white moose. That owner is brilliant
He doesnt give a flying fcuk. I remember years ago he had a go at the vegans. They all lost their minds at him and he laughed it off

He’s every bit as much an attention-seeker as any influencer you can think of.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,474 ✭✭✭Obvious Desperate Breakfasts

Exactly what I think - it's nothing to do with jealousy. Your posts are thoughtful. "Hurrrrr begrudgery" isn't.

I recently watched a documentary about how social media is affecting our mental health - a topic which interests me, even if the programme was presented by Vogue. She went and had a chat with some of Ireland's most successful influencers, some of whom were so quick to express concern about the pitfalls of social media for impressionable people.

The ‘begrudgery’ accusation is always dopey as fuck.

He may be but I haven't seen a single case yet where his actions weren't well intentioned.

Ok.. I'm still struggling through that other thread.. it's struck me that a lot of these people who made a spectacle of themselves on the YouTube when it was possible to make money out of it are probably getting to a stage now where they are realising that things like that bring a negative consequence also.. like, the whole yin/Yang, balance of light and dark thing.. The Tao balances itself out..

Interesting, I would think revenue could rip that apart if they took an interest in it.

It’s clearly a marketing trade (“Freebies” in return for “exposure”) but based on unwritten rules/understandings rather than defined contracts -> which might make it more hassle than its worth to pursue.

I’m not vegan but I don’t see what so great about having a go had people who are? Didn’t somebody just ask him about vegan options in the cafe? A simple “we don’t have vegan options” is all that’s required there.

I was in a bar on my holidays last year and this girl was up & down the road talking in to her phone for what must have been 45 minutes. My wife recognised her from Instagram and she started following her waiting for the video to upload.

Eventually she uploaded it and the video was about her wanting to have a “quick” check in with all her “loves” before she went for dinner. The eventual video was almost in darkness instead of the nice sunset she had when she started messing around. It was a 30 second video clip that was quick to her followers but it took her the guts of an hour to do it. An utterly pointless exercise and not only was there no point to it, she probably made herself very late for her dinner by trying to get the best angle or whatever she was up to.

I've seen so many influencers giving subtle nods to brands on their channels, and it always makes me skeptical. There is an unwritten rule that you have to disclose your affiliation, otherwise it just comes across as sly.

Not really an Irish thing per se but I am getting annoyed at Golfers promoting Peleton without the whole #Ad thing. Its blatantly obvious that they got a free bike and are being continually paid to Peleton by posting up their spin session. Golf fans would be a nice market for Peleton to corner. Middle class, Middle aged men with a bit of cash.

Then when you look at the stats they are posting they are not very believable. Lee Westwood usually ends up in the Top50 out of about 2-3000 people online. He's putting up stats that Pro Cyclists would be happy with.

This was Lee Westwood 2 weeks ago. A bit of a gut and moobs
    https://www.instagram.com/p/CDGhQNhDHd9/?igshid=nqhh0u5wq8ay

C'mon Lee. 1 hour Peleton in the morning, a round of golf and he must be stuffing himself with Chocolate Éclairs for the rest of the day.

RD must be earning a fortune from all her various collabs. And she is married to big money too!! She is living a very luxurious life. Has her Da managed to sell the mansion yet?? I think he was looking for €12million for it.

it terrifies me, that despite my having no interest in anything at all going on in this thread...
That as a 40yo male, I don't care about bloggers, tiktokers, #ad bolloxology by anyone including local 2nd rate wedding singers and her consumption habits all supported by gowls who really should know better...

    That...
    I
    Know
    Precisely
What and who you are on about :(:o

Am I the zeitgeist? Has this shíte now permeated all of us? How do we kill it?
    Fire?

SSM on the north side is making an absolute mint from all this, and her knock-on beauty empire. And you know it really is an empire at this stage. And her extended family seem to be in on the whole instagram/influencer life and are reaping the benefits. She especially flaunts her wealth on Instagram and tried to deflect it as the results of hard work, it’s very vulgar. Her middle sister is as rough as a badgers ar$e and she is also an influencer.
They have made themselves the Irish version of the Kardashian’s. Guaranteed vm will do a reality show of them at some stage.

It’s mad how many people think taking selfies and blogging are narcissistic activities but spending half your day posting your views on anything and everything on boards is completely different.

But we are not looking for payment to post here. It’s just a pastime and a bit of craic. All this me me me Instagram #ad ‘public figure’ new world is bizarre. And it deserves a thread here to take the pi$s out of it. Even if these influencers are successful and making big money, I still have the right to slag them off.

    I'm pontificating gratis ;)
Pro-Bono to an audience of people doing the same.

Now granted I am not the target audience for any of the SM influencers :(
But that people think there could be a sufficient RoI on gifting product to local "celebrities" in an Irish market?

Its a CBA I'd love to see. Can certainly see the benefit when it comes to low value/high volume, but with kitchen appliances?

So are the vast majority of bloggers/ influencers though. The proportion of people making any income from it is limited, while getting the odd freebie has been standard in journalism for years but somehow that escapes the same scrutiny.

The best most thoughtful posts on boards are made by people who are anonymous and who will remain so. That makes it very different to the activities of these vapid instagrammers all of whom demand and expect recognition. There's nothing wrong with being disgusted by vanity and obnoxious self promotion and it sticks in my craw that those of us who value humility are just dismissed as sexists. Humility is actually a virtue you know, at least it used to be.
