The key message is there ain’t and never was a plan.
I thought it was next week before they publish what they call a plan

Yep but the Indo is already starting to leak it/fly kites this morning with the detail of the new 5 stage alert system (it's as though they read my post from half an hour ago). Premium article so I can't post from it but it's here

    https://www.independent.ie/world-news/coronavirus/revealed-new-covid-alert-system-to-decide-severity-of-local-lockdowns-39518900.html

By the end of the weekend nothing they announce next week will be a surprise

I'm really getting sick of these dramatic radio ads every break telling us all to mask up, stay apart and consider that anyone we meet may have the virus.

There is little to no risk to the vast majority of people listening to them but the fear is real given these are official Government ads. In another time it could be considered propaganda.

Our country is becoming a very ugly place in some ways.

Glynn is turning out to be worse than Holohan. Maybe it's the pressure of the "acting" role he finds himself in.

A few days ago he was telling people to act as though anyone they meet has CV-19. Listening to RTE R1 here and apparently last night he announced people (particularly in Dublin) should act as though they have it themselves.

Scare-mongering nonsense that will only whip up the hysteria just in time for the over the top "recommendations" they'll make later on today.

This isn't March. We know now who gets sick, who's at real risk and who dies. The bottom line is this virus is not dangerous to the majority, and we are squandering what are not infinite resources and destroying public support with unhelpful statements like this.

I am starting to think that the combination of his instinctive medical conservatism and the pressure of finding himself in the top job is causing him to overreact to every set of numbers

The problem is Dr Glynn shouldn't be in front of the cameras. He's giving one message, Donnelly is talking about trampolines and MM is scrambling around trying to fight political fires since his first day in office. It's a shambles with no clear plan or communication. One day 200 people are allowed attend outdoor events with 50 indoors, the next it's 15 outdoors and 50 indoors because "concerns".

NPHET need to be disbanded and let the emergency council, who's job it is supposed to be to look after events like this do their job. They were a vanity project set up by Leo's office that have run completely out of control.

So far it's about Boris and Brexit so he hasn't gotten to "the virus" yet.

But I'd say get your shot glasses ready :p

The underlying tone is disgraceful. Treat everyone including family members as if they have it. I mean, what sort of message is that to be spreading. Looks like we're back to all of us being granny killers again.

I cant even listen to the radio any more. The idiot radio stations themselves telling people what to do. Its seriously overstepping the mark... will they be preaching to young people, not to drink, skoke, do drugs soon too?

The trails have been suspended until it can be confirmed whether or not the vaccine caused the condition but it’s not good news either way.
Last I checked anyway, they haven't confirmed the condition that may, or may not, have been triggered by the vaccine.
This was the most promising trial and at best, it’s going to be suspended for a few months, delaying things.
Most sources I'm reading say the trial could resume in days but more likely closed to any new entrants perhaps.

There is another very useful thread regarding the vaccine trials

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,338 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

I hope people realise that finding problems like that is the whole reason they do trials on vaccines. It doesn’t mean the vaccine won’t make it to completion. Most trials encounter issues with whichever drug or vaccine is being trialed, that’s why they do the trials. They don’t just make sure the vaccine works and then start jabbing everyone, it has to be safe as well.

No live music for pubs and a limit to be set for the volume of TVs.

Are they in a competition to come up with most stupid rules?

They really think we are a bunch of irresponsible children.

Does nothing but keep people away resulting in job losses and more closures. Sure what’s another recession.

And going by the actions of certain people recently they would be absolutely correct to think this.

I wonder if the existing pubs that had TV's set to a loud or normal volume will now be required to lower the volume down? I also wonder if a decibel measurement will be provided as guidance.

It's important for public health that we know the exact volume were the TV becomes a real danger.

Seriously though... how f*cking pedantic can we get?

We'll open the pubs but we'll make sure the atmosphere is so lame that you'll want to stay home. And then we'll give out to you for staying home and having friends over.

Oh FFS. If people can`t be bothered to visit pubs due to sensible measures such as this then that will be fully due to themselves and in no way will the authorities be to blame for it. People need to quit this blame the government/authorities for everything bull**** and start taking some personal responsibility for their actions.

People like European Commissioner and current/ex politicians breaking the rules? Or is it only those naughty people having friends and family over that need to have the finger wagged at them?

So what is the allowable dB level to stop COVID in it's tracks?

In case you missed it pal, Dara Calleary and Phil Hogan had to resign and a number of other politicians who were present at that event had the party whip taken from them. Kinda demolishes your argument.

So, should politicians place additional restrictions on the general population when they can't keep their own house in order?

Calleary lost a Ministerial position, he did not resign from public office. Same for having the party whip removed, it's nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

I'm not going to blame the government or anyone. If I can't go to a pub to watch a football match with the sound on, then I won't go at all. No blame at all, it is what it is, but I won't spent my money in something that I won't enjoy. Keep in mind that I don't mind the food aspect, so the 3-4 times I've already been to a food pub, I spent between 25 and 30 euro each time. That's money that a pub won't get anymore.

So no blame from me, surely though all this micromanaging will have an adverse effect to the whole "we're opening up" situation, and subsequently the economy?

Leaving aside your smartarse comment it has been clearly shown that people talking loudly and/or shouting in a situation where there is high background noise greatly increases the risk of spreading droplets potentially containing virus particles.

What do you reckon the decibel level is John? What would be safe for you?

Should there also be security to deal with people that are talking too loud?

I have a long time hearing issue (long before Covid appeared) with high background noise in enclosed public places so it would have to be at a low level for me personally. The security comment is something you introduced yourself. I made no mention of that in my posts.
