I read that post as you go in at the lowest pay grade. No negotiation on salary for Public sector roles which isn't a thing in the private sector.

I went in as a Grade 5 and know other people going in as grade 7 which was based on there skills and experience, but there is no negotiation on money you get which is based on the grade

Each grade sas a different pay structure in the civil service. For example in the civil service there are EO IT positions and Assistant principal IT positions. Not sure about Higher executive officer IT positions as open competitions but starting pay there is circa 44k.

EO starting pay is circa 30k. AP starting paying is circa 64k.

The reference to my experience was that despite having the required skills, education and experience to walk into any number of Public service IT jobs the system as is prohibits this through making you start at a very low grade thus slashing your current earnings...

But, what about the gravy train?

My guess would be that the region picked would be Dublin, meaning that OP probably would have made the cut for interview if they had picked Kerry or Sligo.

This is something that really bugged me about decentralisation, they were willing to promote low quality candidates purely on their willingness to move to an unpopular region.

And some a few years away from retirement were willing to move temporarily to lock in a higher final salary for the pension

Neither of these was in the interest of the taxpayer or better public services. A billion spunked and nothing to show for it except less efficient public services.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

This is despite them supposedly endeavouring to attract the best and most suitable Candidates.

They're not willing to pay industry going rates, this is true for all specialist posts, not just IT.

But all public servants are riding a gravy train, apparently
