This will sound like a dig at the rugby coverage, as it gets a bit of grief here, but it’s not intended that way. But I did some laughing at today’s podcast.

Someone was saying before how the rugby lads all use the same phrases or buzzwords, and today was the best one yet. Simon gave a recital on how great a place La Rochelle is for ROG to go because there’s no pre existing culture or history and it’s this big malleable ball ready for ROG to form it.
Shane Horgan comes on and Simon gives the word for word same story to Horgan, but stops short at the last sentence. And Horgan first words “I agree, the club is so malleable”!!!!

This is the kinda thing that will stop a certain type of person from ever listening to Rugby coverage and/or wathching rugby in general.

Given they spent roughly 5 hours talking about the naked greed of some soccer teams, a few silly buzzwords don't seem that bad in comparison.

Compared to the big picture of soccer and what all that entailed, rugby is barely a speck though. It still probably got far too much coverage given the soccer week it was.

it was probably the biggest soccer news sense Saipan for the common SC listener so they would have adapted to how the news evolved, I think the pod with Trimble and Mcconville was meant to go out Wednesday but was pushed back a day following the ESL collapse.

I didn’t listen to that one myself but I’d presume it was the type of episode that could go out any time, so they were definitely right to push it out as the ESL thing developed through the week.

anybody know why Trimble and Murphy left the house of rugby/ joe.ie podcast?

Joe are bust so I'd imagine that's why. Dion Fanning gone from them too

Yeah, I never heard why they left, but there was a mass exodus from Joe in the last year or two so I just assumed they left for the same reason as the rest.

the opening to yesterdays show is what I love about the lads compared to other sports shows, really is a few friends just chatting sport/sh1te

There are a lot of pods that try that and are just awful. Football Ramble being the main culprit. I've not listened in years. Andy Brassell is on there a lot it seems so maybe they aren't as bad as they used to be.

I'm sure it's been discussed here before, but what is the background of the lads?

Were a few of them in college together? I have it in my head that I picked up in one episode that Horgan & Murph were anyway?

Was very entertaining, especially Murph getting his foot stuck at the bar.

The Saint Steph stuff was nauseating though.

Indeed the stepth fawning was ridiculous.

I think we got a great insight into why Ken and Murph feature more often than Eoin on Egomaniacs. Eoin's a bit too dry to drunkly insult fans.

Since that episode way back when and the associated audio bed describing Ken's dietary preparation for his run, I've been on the lookout for a cornflake ritter bar. Not actively looking, but found one today. Shall report back later on whether or not its tasty...

I think you should do the whole menu in order of appearance and then report back.

The cornflake bar needs to be experienced in the context of Ken's diet that day.

No mention. But his comment at the start was interesting, been so long since he was on that he thought they had forgotten about him.

Most likely a mutual unspoken lets wait for this to blow over.

Been catching up on the Monday short episodes, laughed out loud yesterday when they were discussing Prince Philip
"royal families of Spain, Greece and Denmark"
    "Wifi ****"

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

People keep using this phrase (to have a go), I don't think it means what you think it means.

If your working for MTK you shouldn’t be allowed on any podcast or radio/tv programs unless you are willing to explain how you are ok to get paid/launder drug money.

Just because Andy Lee doesn't publicly state his views on Kinahan/MTK doesn't mean he has any time for them. He and his family still live in Limerick, his only concern is for their welfare and safety and him making a living in the sport. Going out on a limb and speaking out against MTK is just not a runner for him. It's a really sh*t situation, but it is what it is.

I'm assuming you're aware Second Captains grew out of Newstalk's Off the Ball? I don't know if the lads had any connection prior to that.

Btw the hotkeys on the football pod the other day were really getting on my wick

They just don't work as well as they used to when they were all in the studio together. It's clear they are mostly added after the fact now, whereas previously they would all hear it at the same time and react.

The long repetitive audio beds are a bit too much also. A lot of them are approaching 3min!

I completely agree about the hotkeys. It's like some awful gimmick a wacky morning radio show would introduce. I also find the audiobeds overdone. Depressing drawn-out dirges with a bit of commentary whacked on top (bar the Breiffne one :pac:)
