Good looking car. Hope it looks as good in the flesh.

The problems Bjorn Nyland had with charging the e-208 did not fill me with confidence.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Looking good. A bit of welcome competition for that other small crossover, the Hyundai Kona, which is overpriced and underspecced.

I despise SUVs and crossovers in general (pointless things), but that has a very nice front end. Kind of retro, without trying too hard.

that's one nice looking car, real pity about the badge though.

*edit* also dislike this new trend of spelling out the model name across the majority of the back end, it ain't a Porsche :pac:

Finally an Opel to get exited about.

It's probably necessary because most new cars seem to have the same back end nowadays.

All depends on whether its using Peugeot running gear. Opels aren't as reliable as they once were and honestly Im terrified as a service manager of them going electric since they cant even get the electrics in their ICE right-imagine the whole car having Opel electrics.
Worked for Fiat for 10 years and honestly Fiats gave less problems.

I like the way the instrument cluster curves towards the driver

No bad looking except the horrible plastic all over it, reminds me of the Kona and Ioniq.

Spelling out the name on the back is to do with the chinese market i believe, skoda and ford doing it.

This is Autoexpress, which probably means it’s a rendering they took from a forum.

No, they were probably even lazier than that and took it from the media section of the official websites.

Maybe they Vauxhallized it for their uk readers, but the Autoexpress pic doesn’t look as real as the one on the Opel site.

Anyone think the dashboard remind you of an old Ascona or Record dash!

This is an attactive looking car and none or you are talking about it.

In my opinion it is the best Interior that Opel has ever done and I prefer the looks to the e2008.
I prefer the e208 to the Corsa and this to the e2008.
Maybe the Corsa might get the Visor grill soon to make it a little bit less unattractive.

Looks great, shame about that rotten Vauxhall badge. Nobody gives a toss about Vauxhall, they should just kill it off.

The uk do, and a lot still think of it as a British badge, they still sell respectable numbers as a result. Changing it to a ‘German’ badge wouldn’t do it any favours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

I have never liked Opel really, or any GM badge as they have generally always been style over substance and rarely as good as their ford counterparts - However, I really hope the new owners can do something to resolver this. I would hate to see them go the same way as many other European brand names

As a brand its got no cachet whatsoever, none. Nobody aspires to own a Vauxhall. They do however aspire to practically all the other German brands so a change to Opel may just surprise you.

Opel as a brand is as desirable as dog****.
The ‘It’s a German’ shtick is pathetic. They started building cars in the late 1800s, and by the end of the 1920s they were a part of GM.

Id nearly suggested that in the UK Opel is posh. It used be used on high end Poxhauls.

Mind you, Poxhaul and Opel are now both dirt brands. PSA seem to have improved quality but the image is poor.

Makes no sense whatsoever when they're the same car, or even when the Vauxhall comes better spec'd.

Their marketing team have been pushing the German thing for a good few years.

Technically of course it is/was a German company.

I'd have thought it was American?

Built in Germany and in the case of vauxhall, the UK

It's a long time ago, but in the 50's and 60's Opel was quite an aspirational brand...like Audi is today. Not quite a Mercedes, but definitely not bread & butter either.

    As for style ...

I think the Insignia is made in Germany. Everything else in Poland, England, or Spain mainly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,203 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Ok it was back in 1992 but I remember the Corsa my Dad had and it was enough to put me off Opel for life. The most uncomfortable motor vehicle I’ve had the misfortune to sit into... dreadful car.

This car, nice aesthetically from the outside, I really like the curved / angled dash with the nice touchscreen/display/satnav.. but even in the press/sales photos there is a look of plasticy cheapness regarding the overall inside trim and rest of dash...hmmm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,641 ✭✭✭✭road_high

That model Corsa dated from 1982 so was very dated by then and about to be replaced.

I will decide on my opinion about looks when I see the actual car on Donedeal.

I though new octavia looked really good until I sow actual Octavias in Irish dealerships. It does not look that nice in real life lightning.

The ones you see in the promo stuff are always top spec, metallic paint jobs.
Look very different on arrival in boggo Irish spec

Opel have one of the best looking most modern looking cars in the C segment you know the one with the Focus , Golf, etc. The Astra makes even the latest Golf look ancient.
I have always thought the Mokka was a good looking classy car and even the quality of the materials used in the dash is like something from a car 3 classes higher. The new looks great too both inside and out. I hope it is a big success for them.

I had a couple of Insignias. Both SRIs, the latest for 6 months last year as a temp car. Really liked both, extremely impressed with the new model Insignia. Would definitely be on my shortlist if I was buying a mainstream upper size car.
If I’m honest the infotainment system is better than the new model 3 Series I have

Very hard to do that when so many of their sales are made through fleet and rental.

That said Renault achieved the same with Nissan by being ahead of the crossover trend with the Qashqai. Opel are late to that party but maybe they can hit the EV market or something.

    .

Peugeot says they wanted to move Opel away from cheap fleet sales- still basically any 2020 Insignia I see has a Leaseplan sticker on the window and number plate!
Nothing wrong with them (a very competent car) but private buyers wouldn’t spend their own cash on one to any great extent due to the massive depreciation

If you think the Mokka is a classy car with quality materials above its segment then you genuinely have no idea what you're talking about.

Have you actually driven one? The build quality and finish on them is awful and they aren't priced like Hyundai/Kia so there's no excuses. Everything is implemented poorly. What's the point of having an 8" screen like a Golf if there's no anti glare coating on it and it's tilted upwards so you can't see it in the sun? The seats are cheap cloth and are very hard. Don't get me started on the literal arm rest on the side of driver seat that can't be adjusted. A manual handbrake in the era of electronic ones? Come on.

The door panels move out when the windows go down, the ride quality is extremely harsh despite big tyres and raised suspension and the steering wheel moves if you hit a bad pothole.

It's also very impractical. No headroom or legroom whatsoever in the back for anyone over 5ft, a tiny boot and atrocious visibility in the rear.

The only good thing about the Mokka is now PSA are looking after it there's a chance it will be a half decent car like a Peugeot and General Motors can stop trying to polish a turd.

True- I cant remember the last Insignia that was sold privately. Lease companies get huge discounts on them.

Nothing wrong with them (a very competent car) but private buyers wouldn’t spend their own cash on one to any great extent due to the massive depreciation

I would definitely not use the word competent. The Insignia (like most of the Opel range) are falling apart.
For example - insignia - clutch and hydraulic problems.Silly electrical issues that Fiats had years ago. Fuel pipe inspections. Accelerator pedals failing on them while people are driving.

The only Opel that's worth buying from a purely reliability point is the Astra 1.6 diesel.
    Fairly bulletproof.

The 1.4 petrol astras engines are falling out of them. Vivaros use more oil than diesel.
The list goes on and on and on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,641 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Aware of the issues with insignias but i had two (one for nearly 4 years and no issues) and they were excellent- I can only give my own experiences.
Genuinely impressed with the latest Insignia, it is a good car and stands comparison with anything else out there for the money. I’ve had Mazda 6, Passats, Volvos and a 3 Series
Would have one any day over a Kia or Hyundai or the Suv crossover things they’re all buying.

No I have not driven one but I have been in one yes. My brother in law has one. It's the first model and seems happy with it. I thought the dash very classy for its sector. Lots of real chrome in ot unlike the fake chrome you see in some cars (Kia I am looking at you) which is horrible.

Spec makes a huge difference to an Opel. The S and SC models are generally miserably trimmed but the SRI and Elite are pretty nice places to be
