How in gods name do I make all the apps I frequently use go into that App Library? Can’t find it.

Not going to lie its a little underwhelming

Until third party apps produce widgets I don’t really see a huge benefit to them.

Other than the wedges I haven’t noticed any noticeable changes?

    Any tricks im missing here.

I think Widgets & App Library , picture in picture, app clips, Siri doesn't take over phone and nor do phonecalls. This makes it all a big as it totally changes the appearance of the phone.

    I didn't know we could get Wedges.:pac:

Also lots of apps updated such as Music, Maps & Notes.

I think it's a big update and don't understand how people can't say it's not.

Has YouTube app not incorporated the pip mode? One feature I was looking forward to using

Straight away I can’t seem to move the timetable app widget or google calendar widget to the top. Stuck at the bottom and it’s the first thing I want to see so have to scroll down. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but it kind of defeats the purpose of you can’t place certain things near the top

How did you install third party app widgets such as Google? I don't see it.

Edit: OK my third party widgets are there now but under Apple widgets and do not appear to moveable.

    Strange.

Doesn’t look like it. I have to say my iPad 7th generation certainly seems faster and more responsive so far.

    Sadly I have to agree.

I asked around and apparently any iPadOS 13 widgets are grouped together at the bottom. Once updated they’ll be movable.

So you mean the creators will have to update their widgets to iOS14?

Can't seem to edit them at all now. It seems that Apple don't allow developers update their widgets until after full release so they should update soon.

Yep. Google updating their apps to include an iPadOS 14 widget wouldn’t be high in their list of priorities I’d imagine...

Developers could only submit apps that had iOS 14 features from yesterday evening after the event, there was a mad rush for the tools to submit (can only use the latest Xcode to submit, it's a 7Gb install) then you have to run your app make sure it still works, then submit to the App Store and go through their review process.

Previous years Apple gave developers at least a week's notice by dropping the GM build of the OS. They dropped it at 7pm last night.

Well they should be focussed on having a good service for us, there clients.

At least we know now that they will be updated.

Scribble on iPadOS looks to be very good. Still getting my head around its properties but seems to work very well. I used it to write this post. It had no problem reading my writing.

YouTube app doesn’t support PiP yet, but you can get it to work from youtube.com in Safari -

How to Use Picture in Picture Mode in iOS 14

You can test it with Netflix though.

EDIT: YouTube PiP also works in Edge if you press play on an embedded video and it goes full screen - pressing the Home button (not sure how that works for devices that don’t have a hardware home button) will set the video to PiP mode and you can carry on reading.

I’m delighted with the ability to set my default browser to Edge, and my email client to Outlook -

Users can now set Microsoft Outlook, Edge as iOS 14 defaults

Macrumours has a handy intro video tutorial for getting started -

Initial impressions are good, navigation and transitions are smooth and snappy. It only took me 20 minutes to configure the OS appearance and functions the way I like to use it. Definitely more of a step up between 13 and 14 than there was between 12 and 13. Initially it didn’t look like much of an update at all when the phone restarted, which gave me a bit of a start :D

EDIT: In the ‘Suggestions’ group on the Home Screen -

If there’s an app you don’t want suggested, you can long press on the app, and the menu comes up with an option to choose “Don’t suggest <app name>”.

Do the app icons look smaller and kind of jammed in on the home screens?

The gap between the bottom row of apps and the dock is a waste of space.

For those with Airpods Pro, the new Spatial Audio feature is enabled..

I'm trying to find sources now to test it.

Ah so according to that article linked by One eyed Jack, its only available in the US and Canada:( Why would the rest of the world need to translate anything anyway:confused:

You can also change default browser app.

I just went to settings, went down to Chrome and set it as default browser.

    Really happy with that.

Think Outlook is the only email app that has it at the moment. I assume Gmail will soon. I use outlook for work and gmail for personal, so I really don’t want Outlook set as the default, but as I don’t have Mail installed, it’s the only option.

I had to mess around with font size a bit too. Still looks a little odd, haven’t put my finger on it yet...

Back tap is a nice feature I’ve it set for screenshot and it’s handy now it tells you if the phone is network locked or not.

Argh it seems to have broken Face ID on my 11 Pro.

Face ID doesn’t work anymore, and when I restart the phone a pop up says “Unable to enable Face ID on this iPhone”.

Anyone else with a similar issue?

I though they looked a little fuzzy on zoom mode

And everything else looks a bit crap. More playing needed
