They come with some schoolbooks, which were never taken out of the pack so far but I live in hope for the Leaving Cert

We're not going to order it as part of the build 'as it might take from the look'

Just going on this from their own material - maybe it's just a bad graphic.

It's a bad graphic. The GPU would be 2 slots higher leaving enough space underneath.

There's 3 intakes at the mesh front. I would say out of the box it has better cooling than 90% of the budget cases out there.

Picture here showing a gpu inside and plenty of space underneath with 2 front intake blowing air there.

The PC arrived yesterday, a week before the date we were given when ordering so very pleased with that.

Only question so far, he had to remove the glass cover to remove the packaging, in the excitement he didn't take much notice of the fit of the glass. Should it be a snug fit? I wasn't there when he was removing it but was there to help when re-fitting it. Two of the holes screw receivers fit snugly through the holes in the glass but the other two don't seem to fit as well, tried fitting the glass turned in both directions. Currently the top two screws are perfectly fitted with the bottom two bearly caught. We will turn it again later as I would prefer to have the bottom screws perfectly fitted to give better support.

Make sure to lay the case flat when moving the glass panel; don't want any sad accidents.

All good so far, he's extremly happy with everything... Thank you for all the advise.

Now to upgrade from a 75hz 24" monitor (will keep it as a 2nd monitor), has anyone any opinions on the Alienware aw2521hf.

As far as I can see the aw2521hf is the dark colour and the aw2521hfl is light/white colour.

    TIA

After 3 years of successful gaming & never an issue with the pc he’s now thinking of selling this gaming pc and upgrading…..

    Why sell it to upgrade?

All that's needed is a Ryzen 5000-series CPU and maybe a new GPU, too.

Just wondering what this gaming pc is worth now to sell as he’s decided to upgrade to a new high spec gaming pc

Doesn't really make that much sense.

You can just install a newer CPU and newer GPU but replacing everything would end up costing a lot more.

I would personally say a 5800X3D and a 6950XT (or wait for new AMD 7700 or 7800XT coming soon) would be a big upgrade. Nvidia cards are there too but personally I think this generation is such dreadful value I wouldn't recommend them.

What monitor is he using. If he's playing at 1080P there's less point to an upgrade at all.

Fair enough, that must have cost a fortune from PCS.

The old machine, given it's based around a 3700X and 2070 Super, I wouldn't expect more than about 600.

The problem with buying a whole new machine rather than just getting a new CPU and GPU is that all the extras/higher value components in the original build don't really count towards the value when trying to sell 2nd hand, eg a decent motherboard, higher end PSU, case fans, etc.

It would have cost far less to put in an RTX4080 and a 5800X3D and just sell the 3600X and 2070 Super to get about 300 back, total outlay probably €1,400 and you'd still have a top of the line machine.

Also think the Radeon 7900 is miles better value than the 4080, performs relatively close and can be had for about €900.

Really with these class cards and general build spec you would want to be playing at at least 1440P, even with high refresh.
