I've a soft spot for estates, I think the Mk7.5 R estate looks class as does the Passat GTE estate but WTF is the arse on that? Why not make it flat, it looks awful. Taillights look huge too.

Tail lights look exactly the same as the previous gen. See my previous comment - they can’t be bothered.

Still giving golf estates poverty spec taillights whats that all about.

    Quick question lads,
142 reg golf gtd, 35k miles, FSH, carbon grey, manual, Refurbished diamond cut alloys with 4 new Goodyear tyres, panoramic roof, Vienna leather, dynaudio sound upgrade, Sold fully serviced with new cam belt and tested with VRT paid. Immaculate condition throughout, HPI fully clear, How much would a decent price be in your opinions?.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭hooch-85

    17-18k.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Isn't this meant to be the last of the golfs, it's a bit big to be an R, a more compact version would look good..

    crop_vw_space_6.jpg?itok=tfRxerO6

That’s supposedly part of the ID range, ie. Fully electric

Edit: I sincerely hope the Golf estate doesn’t come back. Terrible seller

My nephew brought one in last week 151 for €16500

it had no leather and 70000 miles .

cam belt at 35k miles ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭hooch-85

I think regardless of mileage it is advisable to change the cam belt after 5 years.

An estate version of the R seems to be on the cards again this generation. Why don't they give the estate version the same rear lights as the hatchback?

You know it's covered in camouflage right? The front is disguised as a MK7, the rear lights are similar covered. look closer and you'll see the outline of the actual lights.

How does getting remaps (say Revo stage 1/2) affect the resale value and saleability of Mk 7 R?

    Would you recommend it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭dmigsy

Seriously considering selling my 181 Golf R - perfect condition, lots of options (3 dr, ~21000km, DSG, ACC, DCC, Tech pack, Pretorias, Blind spot assist, Mettalic Limestone Grey). It's a savage machine and it's a shame to sell it but as you can see from the mileage I don't use it very much. Especially now I'm working from home. Also, new job means I can walk to work when office reopens so usage is unlikely to increase.

It's on PCP that's up in March - the best option from a financial perspective looks like paying off the remaining payments and the GMFV and flogging it privately. Only concern is selling a fairly expensive car privately is likely a pain in the rear - the time it will take and dealing with the wannabe test pilots and dreamers. Any recommendations on best way to do it? Assuming a dealer would take it to sell, how much of a cut would they be looking for & what's fair? Also interested in hearing views on a realsitic sale price.

    Either way, it's hideous.

Have a look on Carzone and Donedeal and whatever dealers are asking for take about 3-4 grand off and that’s what you will get selling privately.

I'd hazard a guess and say ~37k if you're selling privately yourself. It's got a lot of desirable options and there is a 172 5 door online for 35,950. I imagine you'd find a buyer with that spec fairly handy but I could be totally off on that.

I presume you mean Indium Grey for the colour, thought Limestone Grey was only on the pre-facelift?

Ah yeah, that's the correct colour. Cheers!

It will be a hard sell privately I imagine. A specialist dealer like Beshoffs or Barnes autohouse would probably be interested in buying an R in that spec though. Sounds like a class car.

    That’s only sales BS.

I recently had a 2011 in with 240 on it and no belt changed.

Handy to know! I'd still do it for peace of mind but maybe that's just me.

I’d usually go by what’s in the actual manual. Usually says 180/210kms without a time limit.

Some specify a time, like the Nissan 1.5 is pre programmed to snap on its 5th birthday lol

As per the service book they recommend changing at 5 years old. I’ve done a full history check And I’ve seen the service book and mileage is definately genuine...
It’s £14500 and working out after VRT at Around €18600, pricey but it’s immaculate... Very pricey but still think I’ll go ahead with it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭hooch-85

If you're happy with the price then go for it, sounds like a good one with a decent spec.

What's the belt/water pump interval on the GTi/R lads? I take it would be the same on the Leon Cupra?

Is the NOX not high on it being a 141?

Chain driven engine, no cam belt. But the water pump/ thermostat housing is known to leak on the TSI engines. I'm getting mine replaced next week under warranty and a few other members have too. It's probably the only achilles' heels of these engines.

I watched this video a few months ago bazz. Very good imo for a potential gti/r purchase.

They are just not a good looking car.... interiors have improved in some areas such as the seats but have really gone downhill in others like the removal of physical heater controls, horrendous shiny plastic around the screens and the weird???? headlight controls, wtf was wrong with the knob.

I think exterior wise the R Line looks good but I’d say it would look great on 18’s. I hate the way they’ve removed the plastic cover that goes across the cup holders. Its been around for 15 years and really improves the look of the interior imo. I’m a fan of the headlight controls and generally they’d be just kept on auto anyway, but definitely agree with you on the removal of the heater controls

I just can't get past the bulbous nose exterior wise i'm afraid, the rest of it is like a slightly worse looking mk7.5.

I also forgot the position of the vents in the dash is my previous rant :pac: blowing right onto your shins basically, perfect

I think it looks clsss, it’s going to sell really well. The seats look unreal as well. Needs the 18s though.

As for the light switches, I can’t say bar turning the auto on when I first get a car, I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever moved it, so, so long.
