It's Ireland, always travel left and expect all people to follow this, I never alter course when on the left.

I thought it was drive/cycle on the left, walk on the right?

Never move, hold your course, keep going for them while looking them straight in the eyes, quickening your pace as you close in on them.

Helps if you have a bit of a scowl on ya too.

Lack of manners and a lack of consequences in the modern world leads to this sullen "why should I move" types.

Same clowns would shíte themselves in a tight spot.

but in all seriousness if you cant manage the full 2m and have to pass on coming walking traffic at say 1metre due to the road or space, how long does it take to pass each other and open up the 2m distance again 5 seconds how big is the risk

    negligible imo

    Only if there's no footpath.

If there is footpath you're better off to walk on the left. That way anyone coming towards you can see what cars are coming so can choose when to step into the roadway.

People are morons that's all. Got the lift in my apartment block last week. Basement to 3rd floor. It stops on the ground floor and in walks a woman. Surprised to see someone in there. These lifts are small by the way. She goes 1 floor and gets out. Seriously. Take the stairs or wait. I've made the decision to take the stairs everytime now. Healthier for me and it keeps me out of the way of the numpties

If I'm walking along and there's a couple who don't seem to be moving, I just stop dead in the path, on my side I was walking. Always confuses them and they have to move.

Get onto the lift, stand right up to the door and don't move, simple nobody can get on.....

She has Parkinson's disease and a few other issues. It's with her for the rest of her life, she looks fine due to the meds but has serious mobility issues and came across someone like you with your "Never move, hold your course, keep going for them while looking them straight in the eyes, quickening your pace as you close in on them" attitude.

But sure, you're allright jack holding your course and looking people straight in the eye. Keep up the good work.

Apologies, no offence intended. I haven't walked into anyone as I haven't been out since this all started.
That a bit dickish, it clearly means she developed a condition 15 years ago that will persist for the rest of her life.

Very few of us will drop off in our sleep in old age without having prior health conditions. Only a minority are that lucky.

I understand that, didn't mean for it to sound dickish. I have a long term illness myself.

Never thought I'd see the day when walking on the road is actually safer.

I've come across a few of these people. 2 women in particular irked me. Walking side by side, taking up the entire path, not even thinking about moving to one side. Some people are very good about keeping distance but then there are always stupid c*nts.

People react funnily when someone does the unexpected. It's like the coding isn't there to fulfill the command prompt. In filling stations the staff seem to be programmed to say "Cappuccino/Latte" when one goes to the till with a coffee. I just say "no" and I get this blank expression in return. They don't seem to know where to go from there.

No . You're supposed to walk on the right, facing the on coming traffic so that even an a windy day when you can't hear, you can see the traffic on your side.
Not walk on the left to get mowed out from behind. Thats what we were taught for country roads. Cross the road if necessary to stay on the outside of corners.
Makes sense and I thought everyone knows that.
Oops didn't see the bit regarding footpaths

Noticed in the last week a lot more women walking in groups or pairs and some of them won't move out of the way for anyone or even get in single file.

I was walking behind (at a distance) 2 women last week and noticed a woman pushing a pram coming towards us. I moved to opposite side of road, the two women walked passed the woman pushing the pram not moving sideways or single file, The woman pushing the pram was near a wall so couldn't move away.

I go walking everyday and always try avoid everyone. It really isn't hard.

I also find if you have your pants down around your ankles and are going hell for leather on yourself, they tend not to want to get in anyway
