Nothing publicly announced that I can see? Would be a shocker if true.

For staters, BA doesn’t have the 778 on order and they don’t expect their first 777-9 until 2026 at the earliest.

As for the Airbus wide body fleet, the A35K is brand new and fitted with their latest product. I’m not sure Iberia has much use for such an aircraft in their configuration. The A380 fleet has been earmarked for retrofits of the new First and Club World cabins, to be completed by late 2026 so that suggests they aren’t going anywhere soon.

Unless something drastic has changed, there’s no indication BA are planning on streamlining their fleet to all Boeing.

Nothing announced apart from them refitting the A380 fleet - they’ll be sticking around for a while yet. Also, I was of the understanding that BA was in the market for additional A350’s. Unless you have a link, I think we can declare this a flight of fancy.

Mentioned on the FR thread, hydraulic failure and they didn't want an aircraft immobilised waiting for a tow off a DUB runway.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

    They're not wrong though.

BA switched the engine selection on the next 6 B787-10 being delivered to Genx this week….and made a point of announcing that at it would target more GE engines in the order mix for its widebody fleet going forward. So, these 6 B787-10's are unlikely to be orphans in the IAG fleet.

It was a big knock for RR (and Airbus) as it had hopes of placing A330NEO's with IAG to replace BA's GE power B777 replacement and later with IB and EI to replace their GE A330CEO's, certainly the tone out of IAG is that GE are likely to win more of IAG's widebody orders going forward….which indirectly means Boeing.

So it seems to me there is a low chance of RR replacing the existing GE engined widebodies as they come up for replacement, hence more Boeings.

BTW, Judging by the way the wind is blowing, there may be no orders for EI in the near future whilst the cap is in place. we'll get a clearer picture on Aug 2nd when IAG announce their results

not sure I would read that as a precursor to discontinuing the A350-1000 but rather a desire to have the three Boeing components treated as a single Boeing fleet meaning that all flight crew would be able to be transferred from one to the other.

Can't see what the full doc says, obviously, but it appears that the future of the Airbus widebody fleet is yet to be considered - I note the term "aspiration" is used a lot. Some of this must be years into the future, really.

they have 16 or 18 A350-1000s with the oldest being 5 years and the youngest a few months. They have a very BA config with first, business, premium economy and economy. While the business “club suite” is a more standard product than previous Club World versions (first flew in it in 1998 when it was a cradle seat then through all variations of the yin Yang). However, I’d be shocked if they were going to migrate from that sub fleet.

I don't think they have first on their a350s but I could be wrong

you’re right; I’m being dumb. I was only in one last month sitting in the mini club cabin.

that’s my read of it too, a standard long haul Boeing fleet, not a standard all Boeing fleet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,717 ✭✭✭California Dreamer

Doing the usual adding 2+2 and getting 787……I honestly cant remember where I heard this but Boeing were making the case to EI to switch to an all 787 fleet for TA ops. Yes I know, loads of crew training, sims etc but if that is the way the BA fleet might go, then that talk about the EI fleet is not totally pie in the sky.

what is the status of the XLR order since the pilots dispute has been resolved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,777 ✭✭✭john boye

Is there a common type rating between the 777, 777X and the 787 or would there be too many variants between all the different models?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

There is between the 777 and 787 but I’m not sure with the 77X. Not many airlines have mixed operations on them tho. Ie, not many have pilots flying both.

I know BA, AA and UA have separate 777 and 787 crews whereas Etihad have the one crew flying them all.

I’d predict the next excuse from IAG is they will be given to Iberia ahead of Aer Lingus because of cap in Dublin.

I read that as BA planning to combine all flight crew into a single "all Boeing Fleet" pool.
The sentence below refers to "annual bid window"

That sounds like flight crew "bidding" for positions on certain aircraft.

"bidding" is airline speak for requesting a particular flight duty/asking to join a roster pool

I don't know why EI are not expanding at Manchester ? It seems ripe for expansion now that we have the cap in Dublin. Virgin are going to snap things up if they take too long

Unfortunately developments, big and small, move incredibly slowly at Aer Lingus. This has always been an issue but has become worse since the pandemic in my opinion. They don’t appear to have the quality needed in management, the vision to create a competitive airline or the support of the parent group to make anything happen.

Large projects take years to implement, and when they are launched, they’re almost always plagued by inconsistencies and problems. Take Aer Space for example, it took them 4 years (2015-2019) from initial announcement to actually launching it. It’s been around 5 years now but still struggles with the basics; the Aer Space headrests are often missing from seats, there’s still confusion over what’s complimentary and what’s not, fast track still only available at LHR and DUB, took them months to provide dedicated storage space on the first two A320neos etc.

They’ve been toying with the idea of brining back complimentary alcohol on long haul for about a decade. The app is miles behind Ryanair, most flights run out of food before the end of the day, the network remains stagnant, passenger numbers have barely budged in 10 years, the Atlantic joint business is practically non-existent and from a passenger point of view, fleet replacement is glacial or has actually stopped…

Aer Lingus has huge opportunities, Manchester is just one of them but there’s been no investment to make it happen. They’ll sit back and watch JetBlue come in next year and take on JFK and BOS, the latter Aer Lingus announced years ago but never managed to launch. The next target, ORD will probably wither away on the maybe list until American or United decides to do it instead. At DUB, it looks like MSP will be given up to Delta, a route Aer Lingus should have been very competitive on if they had the XLR as planned.

IAG want bigger profits from Aer Lingus before investing big, they’re not getting them and they certainly won’t be seeing it this year after the strikes but Aer Lingus is at a point where it’s suffering a death of a thousand cuts. The product is so bare bones that passengers really aren’t willing to pay any more and there’s little fat left to cut from the business.

I was on ei from Lanzarote on the first one of the day. It was out of sandwich’s bar chicken and stuffing or ham and cheese toasty. I was row 6. Even at that it didn’t seem they had many left. Even certain crips were running low.
