IAG has a contract for WiFi and EI was on the list, but post COVID everything has changed. You are unlikely to see WiFi on EI shorthaul bar when the LR/XLR appears

Normally the fit out occurs very late in the process and sometimes after delivery

Standard USB is probably starting to be phased out for the C type standard (in general not in EI).That must be a pain to stay ahead of.

Iberia's new A350 eco cabin (which will be the same fitted to EIK/EIL) features USB-C, USB, Plug Charging and Bluetooth earphone/headset connections. It's the new standard Recaro going forward.

Would hope EI will implement USB-C/Standard on new A320neo cabin's also.

    Here's hoping.

Location is also key. I remember the gymnastics I had to go through to plug in a laptop on a long haul flight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭Jack1985

Yep not good enough in todays world. All signed off anyway the new Recaro seats in Long-Haul (EIK/EIL initials) hoping Europe short-haul at least gets USB's with the new factory delivered A320neo's.

To think that two worst EI long haul cabins are shortly going to be the newest and potentially best in the fleet.

Will the rest follow suit ? The -200s, DUZ and EAV in particular ?

Possibly if those aircraft interiors are at the end of their life span but if they aren’t I don’t see why they would spend millions refitting an interior just for the sake of it. Also will depend on how long they plan on keeping those aircraft in the fleet, if they plan to retire them within a few years it won’t be worth the costs to refit them.

It's a shame that those running Aer Lingus don't appear to place any value in a consistent product experience.

The Iberia recaro 3710 mentioned above coming to EIL/EIK this winter/spring (as per Jack above)... Slide about a third through it to skip the jibber-jabber. (The IFE box is integrated into the seat base in this model - depending I guess on the airline tech choice too- so shouldn't take up footwell room like the current LH recaros).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭Jack1985

There's the seat, ain't it beautiful. EI have also started exploratory talks about a new J seat, wouldn't expect that for at least a year plus at a minimum, the standard J seats are ordered for EIK/EIL (But with updated Panasonic IFE as above video allowing personal headset/earphone Bluetooth connection).

I see EI-GCF worked EI 496 and 497 to and from Faro last night. That's the late return to Faro. I presume it was due to heavy bookings? Two A333s in a day to Faro is massive capacity. Are we likely to see this again during the summer?

EI168 to Heathrow diverted to Stansted yesterday then flew back to LHR last night then back home. Was there a weather issue at LHR or something ?

Thunderstorm activity across London caused a lot of disruption.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 377 ✭✭Shamrockj

One of the 4 Dublin-Faro flights yesterday was cancelled EI494. So they put the later flight also on a 330.

    100% agree.

    EI A321LR= 16/168

    TAP A321LR= 16/155

    B6 A321LR= 16/143

Numbers taken from seatguru website and seta plan of the aircraft.

    I assume this is standard

We would like to update you with some essential information about the onboard facilities on your upcoming flight to MCO[Orlando].

For customers in our Business Class cabin, there is unfortunately no Wi-Fi service onboard, something we know you enjoy as a benefit when flying with Aer Lingus. You will still be able to enjoy lie-flat seating and all the other benefits you’d expect when travelling in Business Class. Please ensure you download anything you need to access offline for the duration of the flight in advance of boarding.

For customers in our Economy Class cabin, there is unfortunately no onboard Wi-Fi available for purchase, so please ensure all your personal electronic devices are fully charged, and any movies or TV shows you’d like to enjoy onboard are fully downloaded before boarding the flight.

We look forward to welcoming you on board.

Yes, that’s the pre-flight email for flights operated by EIK/EIL which currently have non-standard cabins.

Waiting for the "bring a spare pair of shoes in case you have to get out and push" message

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭EchoIndia

It's all been exhaustively rehearsed in this thread. The essential serviceability of the two aircraft is not in question and they are due to have new interiors fitted in early 2024.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,542 ✭✭✭✭cson

There should be some proactive service recovery for not providing a stated benefit at the time of booking though.

That's the standard ... "Congratulations you are flying on one of the sh1iboxes, but we're still going to charge you for all those things we're telling you that you won't have" mail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭Noxegon

....which, when mentioned here, will have the Aer Lingus apologists saying that there's no point in commenting on it since it's scheduled to be sorted out next year. The world keeps spinning I guess.

Complain and complain, should be worth a €250 voucher at least

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,542 ✭✭✭✭cson

I mean to draw an analogy; imagine you ordered a steak & pepper sauce in a restaurant and they just didn't bring you out the pepper sauce yet still charged you for it? You wont be hungry but you'd still feel a bit done over.

Anyone have any idea why aerlingus only fly to Greek destinations such as Corfu/ Santorini twice a week over the summer season? Would have thought demand would be there for a lot more flights! Awkward to get flights that suit everyone 😤

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,746 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Aircraft, crew, past demand, fare yield - any/all of those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭dublin12367

Thanks for reply. I’ve had a look at UK airports such as Manchester where passenger numbers a few million short of Dublin and they seem to have much more flights to Greek and Turkish destinations which I found odd!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,746 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The UK has a comparatively massive Greek and Turkish diaspora, which will be a part of that. Also a bit more of a culture of holidaying there ("Following the herd down to Greece" as per Blur) whereas Spain and southern Portugal suffice here.

Greece is very high on my to-go-to list, but I haven't got around to it yet.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

Greece is a relatively new destination for Irish holiday goers. They are branching out from Spain, Italy, Faro and France.

Looking forward to going there in a year or two myself.

Same as myself. Have been planning to go (Greece) for a few years. Like I mentioned, hard to get flights (dates and times) that suit the group so it always just ends up being a repeat to Spain or Portugal etc where there’s a huge choice of flights per day!
