Same in Kildare, went at 5.15 and got it back after rebooting router. Gone again in last 10 minutes. Tv still working. There’s another thread about it already on AH forum.

Down for me, in west Dublin. Went right in the middle of a game of online poker. Not impressed.

Must be something on their network mines cut out for the third time in the past 2hrs router doesnt seem to be having issues so it must be an issue on virgins network itself.

4th time it's gone on me in the last 2 hours. Think they'd post something on social media saying what's up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Major outage of some sort wiping out VM in UK and Ireland, plus their mainland European operations under different names.

Three outages so far this evening.

It's happening at :16 every hour for the past 3 hours. Our company has direct contact with their IP team, and they are in the dark with us over communications (normally they are open and clear with us).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭thenightman

Aye coming and going, fair annoying. Tracert shows it not making it out to aorta like it usually does, so it's not a local problem to me anyway at least. Don't want to give up my router for a Virgin hub, which I was worried about!

    Meanwhile, at Virgin media...

Lots of people mostly UK giving out loads about them on twitter over this- but I have to say its been absolutely years since I had any issues with them.

    “Roll it back”

Same here, Dublin 16. Internet going on and off over the last 2 hours.

Seems to be a widespread issue if you see the number of tweet coming up about it now: https://twitter.com/search?q=virginmediaie&s=09

There is a similar ongoing outage at the moment in the UK: https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/virgin-media-down-not-working-internet-tv-wifi-today-fix-a9486636.html

Hope it'll be fine again tomorrow morning when half the country continues to work from home.

Is it a DNS issue or does it appear more like a BGP issue? Haven't had a chance to sit down at the computer yet and only noticed because the kids wanted some telly on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Yes, no issues for a very long time. Been great during lock down. Looking at Twitter, UK customers seem to be very angry and inpatient.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,499 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Not a DNS issue, I have mine set to Google DNS and still having problems.

Sure that's the nature of Twitter, tends to bring out the nasty side of people.

In fairness to Virgin here, I can't remember the last time I had a broadband outage and I've had them since the ntl days of 1.5mb 'always' on bb! I'd say the network is under huge strain these last few weeks as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,573 ✭✭✭Infini

Service IS stable nearly all the time it's rare to actually have any issue's at all with them network wise so it's probably a fault somewhere on Virgin's actual network. Least with all the people giving out someone will likely find the problem quick enough right now NOONE can afford to have the internet crapping out on em.

A good number of our team were on a call when the service dropped. Quite frustrating.
The issue was big enough to make BBC News, so at least it'll force them to address it. Haven't had problems since the first drop but I see other people still having intermittent issues.

...it's 18 minutes past, have we survived? :)

Gone at the moment. Does this mean I have to watch actual over the air TV? What is this the 50s?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

They’ve gone down the toilet since upc/liberty change.

I regularly have outages from them in d7. Last one was 3 weeks ago. I’ve even contemplated getting a Dsl line as backup it’s been so unreliable. So I was actually relieved when saw how widespread it’s happening this evening.

Went again at :16 minutes past. Eeek. Very unusual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 934 ✭✭✭lotas

Seems it's not just ireland. Liberty global uk/de/ch/pl all effected. Seems I can get to 2 hops after my router and then it dies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ArielAtom

Gone here in D14 for the last 10 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    Down again last 10mins

    Reckon it's the Russians.

If telecommunications can be completely sabotaged for 24hrs, the new world order could be in place by time we are back online.

Good luck to all in these troubling hours

Yes UPC were better.... tad hyperbolic, not much has really changed except better speeds.

Time to watch 50ish minute episodes and hope to get to the end before the next outage!

Since starting to work from home in early March it seems the internet with them has been so unreliable. By right we should be getting some compensation for this, even just a tenner or twenty quid credit would be appreciated. No such decency from them though of course, such bad form

There was never a takeover UPC are Virgin.

UPC acquired Virgin Media in the UK and just rebranded here there was no change NONE.
