^^ I will probably upgrade the processor to 4500 and memory to 16gb.

an extra €100 for the processor upgrade. For my uses I think (hope) my config is sufficient, I don't do anything too processor heavy so think I will be ok.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,353 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

Go for it if you think that is sufficient for you.

I have 4500, I wish I would have gone for other processor. Then again, there's always something better..

If that works for you then it looks fine. Maybe add backlit keyboard which I think was only €5-10.

    Wi-Fi 6 2x2 AX - is another €10

What's the difference is the Wi-Fi?

I'll cancel and add the backlit keyboard alright.

Just looking for a basic laptop with decent screen, battery and capable of watching HD video from Netflix etc.

I'm assuming the above is well capable of that.

    well capable

but make sure to get the best screen option you can

for the money, if thats all you need it for, a tablet might well be a better option tbh

Better and faster. Although for bit of a streaming you will not notice a huge difference.

The spec is well capable for your needs.

I have a similar enough spec to this. I'm only using it for browsing and a bit of word, nothing too taxing. Very happy with the performance. Do go for the backlit keyboard! Kinda wondering how I got by for years without it now.

GO to the link on page 2 of this thread then login to the rewards site.

    Then navigate to Laptops/Ideapad

Then click the Ideapad 5/14 inch AMD and there are two options, the one on the left is the cheaper option (lower spec), you can then customise it however you want.

Passcode on page 2 not working for me.
    Has anyone else tried it?
    Possibly expired.

Works ok for me, sometimes I get a blank page when I put in the password but usually works after a few tries.

Still waiting to get cancellation confirmation on my order from last night before putting through another order. Their customer service isn't the best.

Worked ok for me just now. The exclamation mark at the end is part of the code, in case you weren't including it...

Totaling at €647.99 with the rewards shop and the 10% newsletter discount. Pretty decent price, pity it won't let me order it without Windows to shave a little more off the cost!

Haven't bitten the bullet with this yet though, Not sure if I should right now.

I bought mine yesterday, top spec with 4800U and status changed to - released to manufacturing. Hopefully wait will be short

I'm using the Irish rewards store - with the password on the second page of this thread. When I try and configure either AMD model the screen pops up very briefly and then I get moved on to the software section. There appears to be a red section at the top that states that configuration is not available when getting the discount.

Has anyone else seen this or got suggestions for a workaround?

    How are people finding theirs?

See comments on hukd about fans never stopping etc and hoping problems are fixed with updates

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭BJG524

Performance wise is doing everything I want very impressively

The fan is louder than I'd like and pretty regular for me

That would be the only slight complaint

What do you want out of it? Browsing/Streaming/Word? Light gaming?

No idea what laptops they got as mine are very quiet.
The fan comes on for 10-20 secs every so often but its very quiet.
    Some people cant be pleased.

  • Registered Users Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Doff

If you are blocking the airflow while doing intense work the fans are going to go insane trying to compensate for the heat being generated. Having a laptop on a duvet while playing a game would be an example. I've found the laptop to be very quiet in comparison to some machines I've used.

my fan kicks in when I'm using it to play ps2 games on an emulator, which i do with it set to high performance

day to day work stuff the fan hardly ever kicks in and i leave it set to powersaver settings without noticing any performance issues

Been using mine 5-6 hours a day for the last month, i charge it up and then use on battery until 15% left, basic browsing, watching youtube, some word processioning. The fan rarely comes on. When it does come on I only hear it if the room is totally silent.
Once it came on when on my lap and stayed on until i put it on a desk, this is possibly because the vents are on the underside.

Great laptop, light, good screen (IPS).

Impressed so far with the laptop.

Great battery life, screen is decent. Mostly been using it for web browsing, Youtube, a few Adobe photo and drawing apps.

I always liked Lenovo's keyboards. The trackpad is nice and big too. Fingerprint login works far better than my HP Envy.

Good array of ports - USB-C, yet also has HDMI, SD slot, headphone jack and a few USB-A ports. So no need for an extra dongle really unless I want to ethernet but that's rare.

Installing Windows from scratch is great too, absolutely no Lenovo bloatware etc.

Best 590 quid I have spend in recent years!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,382 ✭✭✭FFVII

    Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 4700U
    Operating System - Free-DOS
    Memory - 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Onboard
    Second Hard Drive - 256GB Solid State Drive, M.2 2242, PCIe-NVMe, TLC
    Display - 15.6" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Anti-glare, 3.2mm Thickness, 300nits, Narrow bezel

i reckon thats 560 quid well spent, thanks to OP and everyone who helped out throughout

    right lads

say i wanted to explore, at some stage, the option of adding more storage

going by the above can some kind and able soul inform me what connections might be left free/available

or is there a way to find this out in a scan or similar?
